No Points But “Solid” Tom Brady Game

December 22nd, 2021

Tom Brady had a solid game on Sunday.

He really, really did, says his head coach.

The Bucs were shut out but Bucco Bruce Arians wasn’t down on his quarterback play, so he shared yesterday on the Buccaneers Radio Network. That’s noteworthy because Arians usually has no problem calling out Brady for a bad passes or decisions.

“I think Tom was playing solid,” Arians said. “I mean, I know he’d like to have the fumble back but he’s making a play on that. But other than that, we just gotta do a better job protecting him, you know, and run the ball more consistently.”

Arians pointed to coverage sacks and receivers not getting open especially after Mike Evans and Chris Godwin left with injuries, “making Tom hold the ball and that front’s going to get there.”

Regarding Arians’ desire to run the ball more often, he seemed to pin the Bucs’ all-pass first quarter on the QB.

“A lot of them are run-pass options and Tom likes to pass better,” Arians said with a laugh.

All that love for Brady really highlights for Joe just how disappointed the Bucs were with the play of Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller, Jaelon Darden and the tight ends.

Clean Hit On Chris Godwin, Says Derrick Brooks

Insight & fun from The Identity Tampa Bay and Joe. It’s TAMPA TWO!

Derrick Brooks dives in on the Bucs’ loss to the Saints, one he predicted last week. Sage Ira Kaufman, as always, is alongside Brooks in this episode.

Definitely he is on his next faze now; BA is going mad!

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

Solid game? Give me some of that stuff you smokin Brucie!

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

Bruce has hit the Eggnog hard already

  4. rrsrq Says:

There really is no silver lining, but now you have Scotty, Tyler, Darden and hopefully OJ in the game plan. I would limit Gronk so he is playoff ready.

  5. Colonel Angus Says:

How many drops were there? 6-7? Catch those balls and thats a different game.

  6. Tampabaybucfsn Says:

Except for passes downfield on 3rd & short

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Vaughn 2, Tyler 1, Gronk 3, Brate 2, OJ 1, that’s a lot. Drive killers. NO way did Brady audible to those passes, half the time Lenny wasn’t lined up in the backfield. Again the majority were caught and a few drops so the play calls weren’t that bad.

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

Or pass catchersother than Godwin and Lenny decided to stay home vs the Saints and the OL were out deep sea fishing. Can’t expect TB12 to do it all.

  9. LVMYBUCS Says:

TB was throwing the same type of passes he usually would throw to ME and Godwin to these scrubs that cant play worth a damn. He just wanted to show them why they are not starters.

  10. Ben green Says:

More ammonia brained nonsense from the head alcoholic. His wife should find a really nice rest home after the season. The truth about Brady, he’s not good enough to elevate mediocre recievers anymore. It was never really his strong suit. It’s been so easy for him in Tampa because they have or had, guys that can get open quickly. At this stage, if you don’t have those man beaters, he can’t do much. It’s part of the reason Bill let him walk. Jules was on one leg, and gronk retired. They both knew they didn’t have enough in NE, and Brady wasn’t willing to waste a year at that stage of his career. Bill wasn’t willing to pay someone 20mil to throw it away every other down

    LeVeon Bell story?

  12. SOEbuc Says:

Not true but the guy ain’t Jesus. That oline got killed, especially Wirfs and Jensen, and our top three receivers were out before the end of the half.

These crazy statements are just set up for BA retirement next year. Will we see Bowles take over with his three year extension? It’s gonna get very ugly if they go with Byron.

  13. Anonymous Says:

Brady was not terrible, considering the pass rush failures by the OL, and dropped passes by RB’s, WR’s and TE’s, and injuries to Godwin, Evans and Fournette.

No drops and injuries, the game might have been different.

A tot of “ifs”, no doubt, but I don’t lay the blame on Brady.

I just hope the team got chewed out bigly for some terrible play.

  14. ArmchairGM Says:

Show me a QB that plays well when they’re down their top 3 WRs (would Perriman make it top 4?) and starting RB. 3/4 of them went down in that game meaning little practice time for the backups that week. I’ll hold off worrying for now.

  15. Bird Says:

Yah. Starting to worry about arians

I am a huge brady fan since he cAme here. But that was not solid. Again , he threw to the freshman team for most of the game but still

This after saying positive things about Darden. That guy is horrible as a returner. No other way to say it.

    His words are delusional

  16. adam from ny Says:

look at the pic of arians and brady accompanying this thread…

it totally looks like BA is telling tommy:

“look at the bimbette with the big bosum in section 122”

  17. adam from ny Says:

    bosom* 🙂

I going to be ugly with DC Toodddd, as well. Always was ugly, TB12 brought light and SB; Him older and/or gone, the “ugliness” shall show up again.

  19. Alanbucsfan Says:

So RoJo was gassed and alot of those were run pass options and Tom likes to pass-

    What a B S artist…

  20. Winny Testaverde Says:

Bengreen is back and “badder” than ever. Always more prolific when the chips are down. “Jules”?! If only Jules would drag your dunce cap wearing daughter out of your basement and off your payroll, eh?! Good thing you’re “financially independent”. Go analyze Mac Jones as he’s your new “Tommy” so it sounds. Minus six titles and elite talent of course. I can’t imagine hanging around a NFL blog of a team I don’t like/follow. That’s misery for you I guess.

  21. D-Rome Says:

All that love for Brady really highlights for Joe just how disappointed the Bucs were with the play of Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller, Jaelon Darden and the tight ends

I felt that Brady made the correct decision with the ball on just about every play. He even hit Gronk right in the hands on one play. I watched drops and receivers not run full routes. Really that game was on most everyone else but Brady.

  22. PassingThru Says:

Solid Effort + No Points = Solid Waste

  23. Show Me the TDs Says:

TB plays QB. He can’t block for himself or catch the balls he throws. Football is a team game and our offense played liked crap.

  24. Kentucky Buc Says:

It’s obvious by the posts who has actually played and who hasn’t on here. And no I’m not talking about leading your peewee team in rushing.

  25. captivajim Says:

BA is covering for BL ; saying Brady decided to throw so many passes to start the game

I think BA stays as long as Brady/Gronk.. BA is too old to start a rebuild program. After that ,it would be more than ugly if BL takes over..

  26. Ed Says:

Deep balls on the sidelines should not be attempted unless its to Antonio Brown, Mike Evans or formerly Chris Godwin. Miller, Darden may have speed but they cannot make contested catches.

The deep ball to Darden on the Buc sideline wasn’t as overthrown as it was Darden slowing down and then trying to catch up to the ball. He is much too inexperienced a receiver to be trying for that same play Scotty Miller made vs Packers right before end of second half.

Brown will get much attention without Evans, time to run the ball. On passing downs put Gronk, Howard, Brate and Brown in the routes, Brady likes to throw to tight ends, give him a choice plus one can stay in and block.

  27. Ed Says:

Unfortunately, not being able to run makes Brady dependent on having at least decent weapons at RB/WR and a good offensive line. He can’t carry a team on his own like Lamar or Josh Allen. I expected more from Miller and Johnson. Maybe with a full week of practice with the first team they will do better. Will be lucky if AB makes it to the playoffs without getting injured again or suspended for some screw up. And I don’t know what happened to Gronk. Old injury acting up,.hearing footsteps, whatever, never saw him drop passes like that.

  28. BrooklynBuc76 Says:

    Babe,

What’s with the bombs on 3rd and 1? Seriously???
Move the chains bro, please stop that.

Also, 86 the Michael Vick impersonation before you get killed!!!

    Happy holidays from BrooklynBuc76

    “Just Win Baby”!!!!!!

  29. Dan Williamson Says:

People have to catch the ball. Period. The play calling sucked. Dont run the ball for a whole quarter of play? The first quarter? And then the dropped balls. Playing like they were about to go to sleep.Minus the injuries we needed this wake up call. AB is back. We need to grt healthy and start peaking.

  30. Morris Steelman Says:

Only seen My boy Tom Brady 1time before have a worse game. The game belicheat benched him so joe do your research. He didn’t have any where close to a good game. Solid or other wise. He doesn’t break tablets or throw helmets or scream at opposing teams bench when he is having a solid game! He’s PO’ed that the saints were targeting our players. Why won’t anyone address that? Payton has been caught doing it. And has been notorious cheater for yrs! Somebody please say the truth. What’s the matter afraid to hurt paytons feelings if guilty. Afraid of the repercussions of NFL coach getting caught a second time paying bounties?
