Yep. When we win the toss, half the time we take the ball first. When the Opponent wins they ALWAYS, ALWAYS defers. So odds are that 80% of the time, we will be on offense first.

The Atlanta run defense is much-maligned, the commentators are right. In terms of stats, they’re just around average in terms of yards per carried surrendered, BUT they lack any sort of consistency in really stopping a ground attack.
Their pass defense is about average too. But what’s crazy is that they are (from what I recall) the second worst team in terms of points surrendered per game.

LVD was primary problem numero uno. I know none of us want to admit that but he got absolutely owned missing tackles, sucking on obvious 3rd down coverage. One thing I know is I’m not worried about LVD but that defensive line has underachieved. JPP is too hurt to play. Watch him. That’s not 100%. Whiever the backup is needs to go. I trust in JPP but he needs some time off.

cmurda – on the 3rd down pass, him and White are playing a zone. It was a crappy call, Bowles brings pressure on 1st and 2nd, then on 3rd sits in a zone. The receiver sat down in-between LVD and White, and Ryan makes the easy catch. That’s a scheme issue, not a player issue.

NaplesBucsFan – It’s almost ALWAYS 3rd and long, those aren’t easy passes, you’re not going to make all of them having to throw down the field. That’s the issue. Don’t waste downs. Leftwich ALWAYS does that. He’s been bailed out by Brady and by Winston, both had very high 3rd and long completion rates – but there’s no reason to waste downs and force your QB to always need to make a play.

Why did it take until then to finally rush White up the gut? Seriously? It changes the defense completely when White is rushing up the gut, why is it done so rarely? White is not a good pass defender, he’s not awful, but he’s not good. Meanwhile he’s incredible at just getting pressure, finding the smallest holes to get pressure – AND when he’s blitzing it really does shut down the run game as well. Yet 95% of this game he’s sitting back in coverage as the Falcons get 3rd down after 3rd down conversion.
I don’t know what Bowles is seeing or thinking.

What are you talking about? You can see exactly what happened, the defensive lineman knew the play because stupid Leftwich is so predictable, jumps outside and Brady doesn’t see him because of all those 6′ 5″ 330lb offensive lineman in front of him, he wasn’t expecting the defensive lineman to read the play and jump the route.
It’s a bad play on Brady’s behalf, but it’s not a stupid play, certainly not one of the worst unless your history with the team only started in the last 2 weeks.

For those of you who are new to watching football, those plays are inherently dangerous when either the OLB squares his approach when sealing the edge. Get it? It is a dangerous play because due to the timing, the QB has to throw a quick, flat trajectory pass to make it work. Those passes are dangerous to being intercepted.

One ugly play chages everything. 29 minutes of dominate football.
One God awful play by Brady but hes been masterful on the 3 TD drives calling out blitzes and having his way against the Falcons defense.
Leonard Fournette is becoming one of our most valuable players. Hes become a really good pascatcher. Most of his catches may not go for much but they are critical gaining 1st downs…….Great half by Evans and what a catch by Brate in the endzone.
Defense is pounding Matt Ryan. He wont hold up. Devin White looks much faster then last week, thats a great sign. So is Carlton Davis. He looks really good out there. Winfield needs to tighten up and tackle a lot better. I think he wiffed on 11 tackles out there……That goalline stand is whats been mising with this defense!!!…….I think we are going to get more and more healthy and really start taking off right in time for the playoffs!!!!!

Yes and no… No, it wasn’t Brady being stupid. Yes, it was a bad call. The defensive lineman jumped it because the Bucs do that play so often. Also, yes, the defensive lineman did a great job.
You have to go 90 yards, and we run a screen pass and a RB flare… That’s bad playcalling. I saw Marpet down the field on that RB flare, so that was the call, it wasn’t a checkdown. Just bad play calling in my opinion. Now that opinion is based on the TV angle, so maybe the coaches film shows something else, so I’ll make that qualifier.

You have two defenders on the outside during the LOS during those pass plays. The EDGE/OLB penetrates and squares, the outside CB stays at home if it’s man defense. The QB has to make a quick, almost no-look throw as the timing is tight. The pass cannot have loft, it has to be flat trajectory. You have two potential defenders there. The defense doesn’t have to read the QB’s eyes, they can see the WR parked at the LOS. It’s a dangerous pass play.

You can’t use the scr—ed word for whatever reason, so I’ll say pre-planned. Those plays are planned out, done with Arians, and the offense looks amazing. We run out of those pre-planned plays, Leftwich is in charge, and now it’s clunky and predictable.

Because when there is one guy playing tight coverage and five guys on defense 7 yards off and backing up at the snap, that screen to Godwin gets 6 to 12 yards every time. One block and one move.
It’s a good play. Godwin runs it great. I’d love to see them do that to Darden a few times.

David – I don’t hate the screenplay, it’s just over used. You are correct, you’ll get like 6 yards on it nearly all the time, but those plays always look like a cluster and it always looks like someone is going to get hurt. But you make a fair point.
In my opinion I’d save the screen for pressure plays — or at the very least run some fake screens. They’re just ran in the same order all the time.

Rod. Exactly. Go to easy plays get overused. I’ve noticed a couple times Brady immediately dumped to the running back. I hate that. It goes nowhere. When it’s an outlet and you go to it as a third option, it works great. It’s all part of the last few weeks-
