Joe understands people are attracted to names. Because we know names.
And for the past two years, Odell Beckham is little more than a name. Always hurt. Rarely used. Virtually no impact when he is on the field. But hey, five years ago or so before he got into a fight with the kicking net on the sidelines, he made an awesome catch on “Sunday Night Football.”
And he’s been run off two teams since, his last team also happens to be a club with very real Super Bowl aspirations. Hhhmmm?
Well, first, Beckham has to clear waivers for the Bucs to get him. Well, almost clear waivers. The Bucs are currently Team No. 24 for Week 9 in picking players on waivers, right behind the slimy Saints at No. 23. The waiver selection order changes each week based on a teams’ records (worst is first; best is last).
Joe has a hunch Beckham wouldn’t last past the slimy Saints, who did call the Browns inquiring about trading for him before the trade deadline on Tuesday.
Jeremy Fowler of BSPN typed a story about Beckham’s likely landing spots. He has the Bucs on the list but Fowler isn’t buying the “romantic” notion that salad-bar-hating, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady and Beckham want to unite so badly.
Playing with Tom Brady and his friend Antonio Brown would likely be appealing to Beckham. But Tampa Bay is loaded at receiver and has $3.2 million in cap space, which it would like to use on re-signing its own players.
As stated above, Joe has a hard time seeing Beckham slip past the slimy Saints.
If the Bucs somehow do wind up with Beckham, that tells Joe furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing receiver Antonio Brown’s ankle is much more messed up than previously thought.

Dude hasn’t been relevant in years. We are stacked at reciever. There is no reason to bring this malcontent into the locker room. I would take Tyler Johnson over OBJ every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Does Beckham have a say on where he lands? There are so many teams out there before 23 that need receivers. Atlanta comes to mind since Ridley went off the rails.

Jacksonville has first chance, perfect place for Beckham, gets a couple of years being the WR1, Trevor gets a legit weapon makes sense so it’ll probably be a pass from Jag management

The lions are first in waiver order. I’ve been telling my friends that they have absolutely no legit weapons in their wide receiver room. They’re scrappy, but they have absolutely nothing offensively in a passing league. Based of what I’ve read about the qbs for the next draft, I can’t anticipate Detroit going that route next year. So I imagine they’ll stockpile offensive talent for their qb of the future in 2024. Meaning we ain’t coming close to getting him. The farthest down I’d be willing to be would be Jax.

Part of me wishes we’d sign all the names possible for a run at a ring: Adrian Peterson, Odell, D-Jax. I know it doesn’t make sense, nor possible, but how cool would it be to see those two WRs added, and we could rotate and send someone deep on every play. Defenses would get tired, and would give more space for Lenny to run. I l is won’t happen, but it would be hilarious if the Bucs tapped into Tom Brady’s supreme leadership and added all the names, knowing darn well he can keep them fed, happy, and most importantly focused.

5 out of 7 seasons OBJ has had 1,000 plus yards receiving. Two seasons he had 1,300 plus yards and one season he had 1,450 yards…
I wouldn’t exactly call that “nothing”…

Having OBJ would be a luxury, but it’s not a necessity. That money would be better used shoring up a banged up and depleted secondary. Not a hard pass, but still a pass none the less. Go Bucs!!!

Didn’t he get his contract reworked so teams can’t afford to pick him up and he clears waivers?
He clearly won’t need the $ for this half of a season. Repairing his name and fitting in seems like it would be most important.
I would’ve thought the Saints before Jameis injury.

OBJ is the closes thing that can make us better, and keep us in the SB race, there is NOTHING else there. That’s why J is bringing up.
One good player added in great O team, can make a different in close games;
One good player added in terrible D team, can NOT fix the crappy D that suck from the head(DC Toood) to the big mouth 45.
We are NOT one player away to make our D good, but we maybe one player away to make our O perfect.
But we have no money for him, and we are far down the line ….

I don’t like this guys attitude and locker room presence. BUT most of us said the same thing about AB and now he’s probably top 5 most important players on the team. If we somehow get him, it would most likely be because Brady wants him. If Brady wants him, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

What subject is more interesting? Right now Beckham’s landing spot is the talk of the NFL (not counting drama queen Aaron Rodgers and Henry Riggs — both non-football subjects) and the Bucs have been linked to Beckham.
Joe is confident he has the pulse of fans. Joe has been around going on 14 years. You can find traffic meters on the web to see how Joe’s traffic compares to other sites
Just seeing the number of comments on both Beckham stories should tip you off Bucs fans are interested.

This is what I have read – am I missing something:
When a player is waived, their contract is not yet terminated. Instead, they go on the waiver wire, where teams can put in a claim for them. If a team claims them, then he joins the new team on his CURRENT contract.
So OBJ has a 15 million contract. With half of a season left, either New Orleans or Tampa Bay would need to make cap room to pay him 7 or 8 million this year so there would have to be a lot cap changes with current players on both teams.
If no team claims him, then he is a free agent and any salary can be negotiated.
I could be wrong — Let me know.

Beckham is not subject to waivers Joe.
Veterans with 4 full years of pension credit are not subject to the waiver system.
Once released, a “vested veteran’s” contract is immediately voided and that player is free to negotiate and sign with any team he chooses….

I actually read different. Your scenario is true before the trade deadline.
However, after the trade deadline even Veterans with 4 full years of pension credit go on waivers.
But again, I could be wrong and you could be correct.

I’m not a huge OBJ fan and it probably won’t happen – but can you imagine a four receiver set with Evans, Godwin, AB and OBJ?

Adam Schefter is reporting the Browns restructured Beckham’s contract to officially release him. The new deal ends after the 2021 season and any team claiming Beckham would owe him $7.25 million in salary.

According to Cleveland dot com – The Browns and OBJ reached a deal on Friday and the Browns paid $8 million out of the $15 million owed.
So if a team picks him up they will have to pay the $7.25 million still owed on the current deal.

What I said is true up until the trade deadline. After the trade deadline, apparently all players released are subject to waivers.
So basically – Cleveland gave Odell one last middle finger by holding his rights until after the trade deadline. Increasing the chance that Beckham will be forced to play with a crappy team instead of sign with a contender.

If OBJ does not get picked up off waivers then Cleveland is stuck paying the remaining $7.25 million left on the current deal and OBJ is then free to find a new deal with another team.
There are currently only 12 teams with more than $8 million of cap space available.
I’m sure OBJ wants to pass through waivers. That would allow him to chose his preferred team and double dip on salary…

There are three, maybe four teams that will pay good money for him. If he will take a bargain basement price to play third, or fourth, fiddle with the Bucs, let him come.
We don’t really need him, and I think he is a locker room cancer, but I just watch games.
We do need some DBs, badly, and I would rather see us try for some. Find some really hungry guys who didn’t get drafted and try them out, please.
