The Bucs, Penalties And Leaky Defense

November 17th, 2021

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians

It isn’t fixing the inability to get off the field on third down or Tom Brady playing Checkdown Charlie.

No, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports thinks he has the magic potion for the Bucs: Use your damn heads!

Benjamin believes if the Bucs get away from playing dumb football, the wins will return.

The penalties have to go. Bruce Arians said as much after their sloppy loss to Washington: “We’re a very dumb football team.” Fix the pre-snap stuff, get a few guys healthy, and they’ll be fine.

The trick for Joe is, how do you fix dumb midseason on the fly? On face value, Joe likes the idea of benching guys if they don’t start using what is between their ears. Problem is, the Bucs have sort of painted themselves into a corner

. Can they afford to bench a starter and still win games? That’s sort of like treating a head cold by decapitation.

Sure it would feel good for a guy to pay penance for his dumb crimes but the team has to consider the bigger picture. You know, wins?

A coach losing because he’s trying a tough guy act and benching a key starter is a good way to lose a locker room.

    The team has checked-out mentally

They are losing now. What’s the difference if they lose with a starter on the bench?

  3. Hawk Says:

I am not saying it’s the right thing to do. I just don’t agree with the conclusion if Arians decides to go that route.

Glazer, make this 🤡 shut up, he is hurting the team.
If you guys can’t, FIRE him now, and save the team.

Why is Bowles name NEVER mentioned negatively? You can bench a player for a series doesn’t have to be the whole game. That’s a much better way to get a point across than dragging them through the mud in public. The player will probably be more embarrassed he let his teammates down. The problem is if it’s too late now and the players won’t give a spit?

Quit talking about stuff we already know; go and fix it. We have seen it for a couple of weeks now, then we see the Titans go out and play with passion.

Make the largest staff in football figure out how to make the game important to the players.

I don’t get all the negativity in these posts. We are 6-3, first place in the division. I’m a little worried about the previous article about a riff between Brady and Arians, but if this team gets healthy, they can run the table again. It appears to be a long between where we are now and running the table, but it was like that last year too.

You don’t have to bench a player for the whole game. Just pulling him out for a series let’s him and the rest of the team know that he screwed up and that won’t be tolerated. We’ve got to get some discipline back on the field.

Probably one of the more ineffective and vestigial coaches in the league…
