The Best Bye Week

November 8th, 2021

Helps Bucs.

You know, Sunday’s games were pretty much like a comforting salve on a stinging, week-old burn wound.

Joe is still cringing over that loss to the slimy Saints a week ago. Damnit, that kind of crap should not happen to a Super Bowl champ. But yesterday’s games did wonders for Joe’s soul.

Damn near every other team that the Bucs are fighting for a homefield advantage in the playoffs lost. It was glorious!

Dixie Chicks 27, slimy Saints 25

Just when it looked like Atlanta was in the midst of doing Atlanta things and choking away an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Dixie Chicks rallied behind Matty Ice. A key long pass to Cordelle Patterson set up the game-winning field goal. This gave the Bucs sole possession of first place in the NFC South.

Broncos 30, Cowboys 17

The Broncos simply curb-stomped the Cowboys in Jerry’s World. Good ol’ fashion arse-kicking. The Broncos at one point in the fourth quarter led 30-0. Dak Prescott, after missing a game with an injury, looked rusty as heck. Ezekiel Elliott gashed his knee. The Broncos ground and pounded the Cowboys for 190 yards rushing. The Cowboys are now a game behind the Bucs and the Bucs hold the tiebreaker so in essence, the Bucs have a two-game lead on Dallas.

Chiefs 13, Packers 7

This game was cool for a couple of reasons. The first was that Joe enjoyed seeing how badly the Bucs broke the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. They’re still effed up. Oh, and the Packers lost as fibbing drama queen Aaron Rodgers had to sit out the game because he has The Sickness. Jordan Love simply was not ready. Green Bay, which has played one more game than the Bucs, leads the Bucs by a half-game in the conference pecking order. Think Rodgers won’t get another raise in the offseason after Love threw up all over himself?

Titans 28, Rams 16

Everybody and their brother thought the Titans were done when Derrick Henry was lost for the season. Instead, the Titans stomped into Los Angeles and punched the Rams in the mouth. It was old school, trench warfare for the Titans, with a bruising defense and Joe doesn’t think the Rams were prepared for the arse-kicking, physical game. The Rams (7-2) as a result have a half-game lead on the Bucs (6-2). Of course the Rams have the tiebreaker.

Cardinals 31, 49ers 17

The only thing that would have made Sunday a clean sweep for the Bucs is if the 49ers beat the Cardinals. Even with Colt McCoy at quarterback for the injured Kyler Murray, the Cardinals whooped the 49ers in their own crib.

The Cardinals’ win aside (they lead the conference standings with an 8-1 mark), Joe cannot remember a better bye week for the Bucs.

All the excitement today gave me a case of the vapors

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Glad the Bucs didn’t play today, bunch of favored teams all lost.

Let’s hope the Bucs take today to hear and don’t overlook the Redskins. This is going to be their Super Bowl and they played the Bucs really tough in the playoffs. In the preseason I had the Bucs losing @Rams, @Saints, @Redskins — so I hope I’m wrong, and I think I will be since the Redskins were supposed to be a defense powerhouse and they went completely off the rails for some reason.

Oh, and just because it’s funny… remember 1-week and 9-hours ago when the Bengals were the #1 seed in the AFC? Well, according to the NFL site, they’re now the #10 seed.

    rod –

i had them losing the first 2 you mentioned before the season began…

then as we approached the saints game, i lost my mind and predicted a 30-20 bucs win…go figure…

i got got on that one…

but i have them beating the skins next weekend – so no worries…

we will skunk the skins…for sure…

the bucs are all sitting around right about now watching tv, feeling pretty good about themselves…basically everyone who is anyone right now, lost…

oh wait maybe tom told them to all go to sleep at 8:30 like good boys 🙂

Yes! I agree with Joe–comforting salve on a healing but painful wound. Games were fun to watch! Joe will need to spend next week restocking his Bigstorm Bromosa etc supplies.

  5. firethecannons Says:

Jags beat Bills and Browns beat Bengals

  6. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard actually feels terrible about the Winston injury. Sure the guy was a bust here but Howard was looking forward to the drama of him leading the Aints. Winston is a goofball, but he’s a fundamentally nice person and it really sucks to see him get injured.
Howard thanks the gods daily for Brady, but he also wished Winston didn’t get injured. It’s very sad.

    Wonderful day.

  8. Crickett Baker Says:

I am miffed at the insults to Aaron. If you watched him on Pat McAfee you would see that A. He was allergic to ingredients in vaccines, and B. He told his team AND the NFL that he could not get vaccinated but proceeded to get immunized by a naturopath Dr. He used the same medicine that Trump did, among other substances that raise immunity. He followed all non-vaccinated procedures but did petition the NFL to see his actions as being immunized (which they did not). I believe he acted as honorably as he could, being allergic to a vaccine ingredient. I defend him against your opinion.

    Not the brightest light bulb.

    Howard said it for me…

  11. Bird Says:

Rams – turnovers and penalties sounds familiar

Joe – i don’t remember liar / lying diva being used when it was proven the former guy did the same thing to the organization. Just asking for a friend?

  12. Mr Bean Says:

@Crickett – there are three vaccines approved in the US with one of them vastly different from the other two. I will be very surprised if he was allergic to all of them.

  13. Rico210 aka wutdaBucisthis Says:

He LIED @cricket. Don’t spin that. Plain and simple.
    Are you vaccinated Aaron?
No, I’m taking/doing holistic treatment though to boost my immunity.
    Plain and simple.
    Go Bucs

  14. Steven007 Says:

Cricket, he was allegedly allergic to ingredients in two out of the three. He chose not to get the other one. And a naturopathic doctor is not a doctor. At least not how we think of one. They did not graduate from an accredited medical school of any kind (not an MD or a DO). And immunized is obviously a weasel word since it wasn’t accepted by the NFL or his own team. He clearly used that word to imply he was vaccinated. I mean it’s obvious. All of that said I don’t dislike the guy like many here do. And I also believe that he is free to do what he wants. But his misleading about his situation is what he’s getting push back for.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Winning without playing….couldn’t really hope for a better outcome.

  16. Sean Says:

49ers are just off. With the talent on that Shanahan (and niners medical staff) should be on the hot seat but he won’t be. I get the feeling that the Cardinals are not as good as their record but until they turn back into the pumpkin, I can’t dispute what they’ve done. Sam Darnold is really, really bad. Of all the hills to proverbially perish on, fake smart guy Aaron Rogers chooses this one. The only thing worse than a fake tough guy is a fake smart guy and he’s always struck me as “word of the day calendar” smart. Finally, Matt Ryan is good enough to screw up the Falcons draft position to prevent them from drafting his replacement. THat equals purgatory.

  17. Hodad Says:

Never thought I’d have that much fun cheering for the Falcons.

  18. tampabuscsbro Says:

Did anyone tell Rodgers there was non MRNA based Vaccines?

It wouldn’t have mattered anyway those people just move goalposts time after time after time again.

  19. GOATWatcher Says:

Fun Sunday for sure. Based on the Brady Rule–4 game suspension, $1 million fine, loss of first round draft pick for false, thoroughly debunked charge of “probably being aware” that an imperceptible puff of air was taken out of game balls–Rogers should be suspended for season for lying and putting the health of teammates and families at risk.

  20. Jordan Says:

The Cardinals winning actually was good contrary to your point — if they win their division, and we win our division, we no longer have to worry about the head to head tiebreaker with Rams for seeding purposes cause they will be stuck in the wild card slots.

  21. Erik Says:

Wow, I couldn’t believe jags beat the bills. Gives me more hope that bucs could go the rest of the season undefeated. As for Washington there is no chance they can win against us. Hoping gronk, brown, Davis and Murphy-bunting will all be back for that game. As long as we have all 22 starters healthy and playing we can finish this season with no more loses.

  22. August 1976 Buc Says:

For as Bad as the Bucs looked against the Rams, it is a different picture right now with all these teams having 2 losses.

Lets not forget that the Bucs ARE going to win the NFC South.
And the Rams might be headed for a wild card in the West.
What would have sounded crazy after week 3 is not at all now, the Bucs could end up playing the Rams in Tampa in the playoffs.

The 6-2 walking wounded mash unit Bucs are getting healthy as this season goes. They are only going to get better.

The Bucs have Brady and everyone else DOES NOT lol lol. This is the best bye week I can remember for the Bucs.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  23. Joe Says:

@Crickett – there are three vaccines approved in the US with one of them vastly different from the other two. I will be very surprised if he was allergic to all of them.

Joe hopes there are some doctors reading that can fill in the blanks here:

Many vaccines are raw egg based (don’t ask Joe why). Same with The Sickness vaccines. If you are allergic to eggs, you may be screwed.

Joe was in the same boat. Allergy is minor enough that Joe rolled the dice. Thankfully, there was no reaction.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Rod Arse Muncher, I did say anything about playing passive defense but how about change it up? EVERY team Bucs played this season had the same offensive game plan, except Bears and how did that work out for them? That being said if blitzing White isn’t working then DON’T send him. He clearly isn’t the best cover guy but he sure as hell can make a WR pay for catching it across the middle. Saints loss was due to BAD coaching both sides of the ball which led to penalties and turnovers = Loss!

  25. Joe Says:

i don’t remember liar / lying diva being used when it was proven the former guy did the same thing to the organization. Just asking for a friend?

Who is “the former guy?” Brett Favre?

  26. Eddie Marz Says:

It was a great bye week for sure, just wish we had beaten the saints ourselves. GO BUCS!
