Shaq Barrett’s Game-Changing Play

November 29th, 2021

Eyeing 40 sacks with Bucs?

You’ve seen it; Joe’s seen it. But Joe has no idea (and honestly, probably doesn’t want to know) how this stuff is calculated.

When Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett lined up before his strip-sack and fumble recovery on Colts quarterback Carson Wentz, the Bucs had a 12 percent win probability in the game, per NextGen Stats. When Shaq recovered the fumble, that win probability jumped to 23 percent.

The 12 percent win probability was the lowest point of the day for the Bucs. So NextGen Stats believes Shaq’s strip-sack/fumble recovery was the turning point in the game.

Shaq had two sacks Sunday and that brings his season total to 7.5. But here is the crazy thing: Shaq joined the Bucs for the 2019 season and less than three years later, he is five sacks away from having the fifth-most sacks during the regular season in franchise history. How wild is that?

The Bucs have six more games to play before the playoffs. So it’s not crazy if Shaq can get take his 35 sacks in a Bucs uniform up to 40. (And that does not include his four postseason sacks!) Then he will overtake Dave Logan for the fifth-most sacks in Bucs history.

Pulling that off in three years. That’s just nuts to think about.

That game felt over as the Colts were driving at will. Way to go Shaq…you may have saved the season right there.

Let’s not forget about Edwards!! Overall performance was awesome. He was all over the place!! He makes things happen , needs to be out there as much as possible…

Can I put in a good word for AWJ? When a runner gets through a hole, he meets No. 31 and stops. It seems mundane, but I don’t remember one runner juking past Winfield.

Nice to see Dave Logan mentioned. Great Buc from the early days and gone way too soon. Did a great job as well as color commentator with Deckerhoff before he passed away.

completely redeemed himself on that play. gamechanger it was indeed.

    mad props!

It also shows how, other than Sapp and Rice, the Bucs pass rush has been pretty putrid throughout the years

Great momentum shifter.. I can’t put in words how much I enjoyed that strip sack and recovery

The dude has drive. How many times have you seen him chasing the QB out of the pocket. That typically results in an incomplete pass or the QB simply throwing the ball away. That’s a big help for our depleted secondary. Glad Licht was able to steal him from the Broncos.

    Obvious play of the game

Reason why he had 4 seconds to get to him? Because the secondary finally covered their men. Wentz had nowhere to go. Shaq was a force of nature in that play and then the flood gates opened. As much money as they are paying him I hope he gets more than 12 sacks and produces more game changing plays and stops jumping offsides
