Seems Like Old Times

November 16th, 2021

“I feel ya, Jameis.”

Well, if this isn’t an ugly throwback of a thought.

Over at NFL.com, Jim Trotter typed a wrap-up of the weekend’s games and sort of flipped the switch on the air raid siren as to how the Bucs have played the past two games, which has been nothing like a playoff team.

Tampa Bay has lost two in a row, and quarterback Tom Brady has nearly as many turnovers (five) as touchdown passes (six) in those games. More concerning is the defense, which was the backbone of the Bucs’ Super Bowl run last season. Tampa Bay has forced only one turnover the past two weeks and has surrendered 36 and 29 points, respectively. The team is down its top three cornerbacks and is not getting the consistent pass rush it did a year ago.

Yikes. Let’s go down the list.

* A talented quarterback who throws almost as many picks as touchdowns? Check.

* A sieve of a defense that lets the same quarterback know as he steps out of the locker room before that if he doesn’t hang 35 points on the scoreboard his team has no shot? Check.

* Impotent pass rush? Check.

Damn if that doesn’t sound like the Bucs of The Lost Decade. Here Joe thought we were past this.

Pass rush to me looked better with Tryon and Nelson at times — these two are hungry to prove themselves and can keep the rotation fresh.

Even if JPP can’t damage his rotator cuff further, he’s still reaggravating the pain. He doesn’t look the same most of the time. We should’ve shut him down for the Saints game before the bye week. Same as Gronk.

Would love us commit to running the ball 20 times a game — if you look back at Bradys career, there has really only been one Patriots team where he was able to get away without run first and that’s when he had Randy Moss in his prime.

I love Mike Evans and Godwin, but until AB and Gronk are back, we have to get Rojo and Fournette more touches.

  2. Conte Piscateli Says:

Who is this Rojo you speak of????

  3. Listnfrmafar Says:

Rojo misses a block or drops a pass he gets benched, Lenny does it and he gets the ball the next play. Rojos mom needs to teach him how to cry more. I agree Rojo is a beast in the open field relying solely on Lenny is foolish. In the past Brady’s defenses have given him a chance to comeback and go for the win. Yes in NO he threw the pick but it still doesn’t take away the fact he got the lead and Defense gave it right back to the Saints with a 3rd string QB. This offense without Gronk & AB is not scoring 30+ a week.

  4. DBS Says:

In Washington Brady and the offense scored and the defense gave it right back. this has been going on. I think Brady is sick of it. He may be talking but nobody is listening. They have their rings and money now.

  5. John Sinclear Says:

Sure sounded like “Fameis Jameis” was back.

  6. Goldenbuc Says:

Biggest difference is that 6 – 3 record instead of that 4 – 5 record we would have back then. What was jamies record when his running backs had 100 yards of scrimmage? I wonder.

  7. Youngbucs Says:

Lol nice try except we have a winning record and leading the division. Brady plays consistently good more than he does consistently bad. What’s crazy is he still playing better than any other QB. The nfl is flip flopping weekly lol.

  8. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

The defense has the heart of paper tigers. Always super celebrating good plays but can’t string enough together to stop anybody.

  9. DoooshLaRue Says:

    DBS,

I’ve been thinking the same thing.

  10. SB Says:

Anytime you have 3 turnovers on Offense and only lose by 10 points there is only so much blame to be placed on the defense.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

Brady cannot..Will not win them all. Thats where you need a Defense. And for the moment ours is dead.

  12. DBS Says:

And when the defense comes out of half time and gives up 7 then let’s the Saints go right back down the field and score 3 again after you take the lead. That is 10. That is on The defense. Even with the pick 6. 27-26

Joe, please please please! Comparing Brady to Winston as a joke! And you did compare him by using the picture to go along with the story. The amount of wins Brady has amassed plus the RING , things must be dead around the world headquarters of Joe Buc Fan . I enjoy the site I check it two or three times a day!

  14. DBS Says:

The pic 6 does not happen if the defense makes the stop. Simple as that.

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs gave up 10 points on turnovers the 1st half vs WFT.
They trailed by 10 at the half and lost by 10.
The D has been giving up 20 or so points per game vs WFT and Saints- the offense has been giving the other team 10 points/ game.
The offensive game plan was terrible vs WFT.
Not enough running or deep throws – outcoached and outplayed.
Buc fans expect better and should see better starting Monday.

  16. Bucluck Says:

Horrible game, remembered by a 19 play 10:30 minute drive to bury this defense

  17. Crickett Baker Says:

Joe, you forgot kicker misses extra point..

  18. Bob in valrico Says:

The offense lost the battle of 19 play drives by a mile. If we had a couple of them, then we wouldn’t be in the predicament of trying to catch up in the fourth quarter, with an injury riddled defense.
