Red Hot Colts Loom

November 21st, 2021

Quenton Nelson and the monster Colts running game looms.

It’s one game at a time in the NFL, but it’s hard not to look at the huge, almost daunting task ahead of the Bucs next Sunday.

On short rest after Monday night’s game in Tampa, the Bucs will head to Indianapolis to face a red hot Colts team that’s won five out of its last six games. Today the Colts (6-5) mauled the Bills (6-4) in Buffalo.

The Colts feature the nastiest running back in the league, NFL rushing leader Jonathan Taylor, and a fiercely physical offensive line. That includes veteran versatile tight end Jack Doyle, who is a heck of a blocker. And quarterback Carson Wentz methodically has found his way to 18 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions this season.

Indianapolis is top-three in the NFL in forcing turnovers and two of their losses were in overtime (Titans and Ravens).

This will be the greatest test of the Bucs’ run defense since perhaps against Minnesota and Dalvin Cook in 2020.

If the mighty Bucs run defense is up to the challenge, then all should go smoothly. If not, well, then Joe might exceed the recommended daily ingestion of Tums.

Should be a good game . Can this game be flexed?

  2. Francisco Guzman Says:

Cowboys the only good win on our schedule? This team has to start being elite teams. They’re capable.

  3. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Well the good news is the Saints lost, the Falcons lost and the Kitties lost. Game manager, Scam Newton, couldn’t get it done. He has no arm.

  4. Steven007 Says:

Meh. The rams were red hot until they weren’t. Ditto the Titans. Ditto several other teams. The colts are a strong team but I’m not any more bothered by this strong performance than I would be if they crapped the bed.

I dont know much about the Colts but it sounds to me like we matchup good with them if they are built to run first. We have seen our run defense take a bit of a step backwards from last year but we are still very good and should be expected to step up vs a run heavy team.

But then we run into the issue of Carson Wentz. If the Saints and Redskins can throw all over us that makes the Colts pass attack scary.

We need our DBs back healthy and we need our passrush to show up. I doubt we are getting Carlton back that soon. If we can at least get Bunting back that might be enough.

  6. Adrnagy Says:

    We will beat the colts.

Falcons, Saints, Packers & Panthers lost…….now if we can get a Cardinals & Cowboys loss….that will be a clean sweep this week…

Not concerned about the Colts….it’s the Giants we need to focus on.

  8. Francisco Guzman Says:

I remember how people said this team had an easy schedule boy that has change. Injuries and just crappy defense and none of these games are a given. Bucs just need a win badly tomorrow.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

The Vikings rushed for 162 yards last year, and the Colts run the ball better.

The Bucs offense needs to show-up and put up a ton of points, or the Bucs will get routed as I’d expect the Colts to put up around 42 points. However if the Bucs can be the ones scoring 42 and controlling the clock, maybe the defense can keep the Colts to 31 points. Either way the offense needs to score, it can’t all be 2 yard passes to Fournette as Evans and Godwin run wide open downfield.

Who cares what they did against Buffalo. Wentz is a chandelier, physically and emotionally. Taylor can be stopped.

  11. firethecannons Says:

I cannot imagine that joe is focused on the colts! dude! we still haven’t beaten the Giants–hope the team is focused on #1 priority unlike you!

  12. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Oh….. we’re good.
A lot of geniuses penciled this in for a win before the season started along with sure wins against WTF and NYG.
The Bills are the only team we had to worry about during this stretch.

    Such knowledge.

  13. Youngbucs Says:

I’m I’m the only who notices we also miss Davis and bunting in the run gm.

  14. Youngbucs Says:

And before someone talks trash go look at them in the run gm.

  15. chaingang Says:

We get ran over and take the L

  16. Swampbuc Says:

Taylor will run for a buck fifty against us, but first things first. Let’s focus on the Giants loss first.

  17. August 1976 Buc Says:

OMG the sky is falling…… NOT!!!!!! lolololo

The Bucs will not get run over by the Colts.
If they do not turn over the ball, the Bucs win, pretty simple.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  18. Miller5252 Says:

At the beginning of the year I thought this game was really going to show how good Vea was going against Nelson. That would have made for some good football with those 2 guys getting after it. Since that’s not happening….. it’ll still be a good match up between the Bucs rush D and the NFL’s best running back. Devon White should have one heck of a game blowing up their back in the back field. The Colts are playing really good ball and if the Bucs ain’t ready, it’ll show quickly.

  19. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Let’s worry about the giants tomorrow!!! One game at a time.

  20. Leighroy Says:

I wish we could get a Nelson & VV matchup, but injuries not looking good.

  21. Swampbuc Says:

We should first accept the Giants loss and then move on to admitting we got obliterated by the Colts. One game at a time to 6-11.

What’s the matter, Swamp(Realisto)Buc. Favorite sheep said ‘No’? Troll. Stain some other blog, because this space is reserved for Buccaneers fans.
