Interior Woes

November 17th, 2021

Guards were on Bucco Bruce Arians’ mind.

Yeah, it was a rough Sunday for Bucs left guard Ali Marpet, a week after he was lauded for incredible grades within the walls of One Buc Palace.

The crushing blow Tom Brady absorbed early in the first quarter was on Marpet. Joe’s photo genius captured the shot that ended in Brady going down hard on his right side.

Officially, it was the only quarterback hit on Brady all day, though that doesn’t mean Marpet and his fellow interior linemates played well. Marpet appeared to mess up badly on a blitz, inexplicably stepping out of the way of a blitzer screaming in on Brady. Marpet moved left to help Donovan Smith, who didn’t need any help.

This was on the mind of Bucco Bruce Arians when he sat down for his Tuesday radio show heard on WDAE.

“Interior pressure, our interior guys, we busted an assignment on a third down on a blitz up the middle and had to throw it away. Those are the type of errors that are just driving me crazy,” Arians said.

Bucs fans have heard from the head coach, since the dump dropped in Washington, that Tom Brady getting hit early affected his decisions to throw down field.

But from just one hit? Really? It’s a little hard to believe unless Brady was injured in some way on the play.

Tom’s Thumb is completely wrecked IMO. It’s gonna be this way all season until he retires in 2 months

    You good Ali.
Donnie do this sh!t all the time.

It looked like the entire team took two weeks off and didn’t bother with preparation, and that includes the coaching staff. My guess is that they forgot that WFT played them tough, tougher than expected during the wild card round. If you looked at WFT’s offense, they were creative and made good use of their limitations. On the Bucs, it was the same old, same old which made game planning easier for WFT.

I think Marpet is an elite OG, and sometimes you will lose leverage to a D lineman… but missing a blocking assignment altogether is freaking awful.

Unless there is evidence to suggest otherwise, I don’t think Brady’s play on Sunday was because of an injury resulting from that hit. He just look scared. I know he’s a phenomenal QB and has seen everything defenses can throw at a QB, but he simply looked rattled, not physically but mentally. He had a very pedestrian game overall. Hopefully, everyone can get it together before Monday night’s game.

    What PSL Bob said!!!!!
Brady was hurt on that hit. Plain and simple.

TB12, needs to include some fat greasy cheese-burgers into his diet, to put some meat on his bones. To help absorb those rare hits.

It’s worked for me, for many years, lol

Come on guys!!!! Ali is a stud!!!! He rarely misses…..Don’t overthink!!!

  9. captivajim Says:

TB12 is simply just getting tired of offensive players making mistakes; dropped balls , false starts , wrong routes, missed assignments ….after 21yrs he”s just f…ing tired of trying to Always be tHE guy that has to save the team..that’s why he has no fire in his belly …..

win or loose in the playoffs–he’s retiring..

Tre Smith out of UT would have been a great addition in the draft. Sadly he went to KC.

Yes, also have to wonder if Brady is getting pressure from home to retire. I know Giselle has already said she wants him to. I am a hardcore Brady fan, but I think it is time. Actually I would have liked to see him go out on top after last year. He said he wants to keep playing because it is fun, but I can’t imagine he is enjoying the way things have been going the last few games. That would obviously change if they turn things around like last year, but I don’t think we can count on it, especially since both the offense and defense seem to be out of synch.

Rookie or veteran the hit was close to concussion material on the first series of the game. Whose to say it didn’t cloud his judgement it was a turnstile play by Marpet. Hopefully he doesn’t let his press clippings go to his head again this year. So much for the Probowl.

do not let anybody touch Tom early in the game.
