Discounting The Bucs’ Win

November 24th, 2021

Among those unimpressed

There’s a lot of spin out there from knowledgeable people saying the Bucs accomplished a whole lot of nothing Monday night other than upping their record to 7-3.

That’s what happens when you beat a New York team, the national and New York-focused types spin everything as their loss and not your gain. But the Bucs beating of the Giants almost ran deeper.

The spin was that the Giants are so rotten, so lacking direction, that nothing was learned from a Bucs perspective by Tampa Bay embarrassing a crappy team.

Joe knew all about how miserable the Giants were and wrote about it 10 days ago. Heck, former Bucs and Giants receiver Michael Clayton spoke on Tampa Bay radio last week about how when he was at the Giants game this season for the 10-year reunion of their last Super Bowl team, he saw a club in total disarray and he expected them not to put up a fight against the Bucs.

The chatter on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday was all about how the Giants are imploding and awful, and that’s why they fired their offensive coordinator. Even Tom Brady’s first NFL playcaller, Charlie Weis, who routinely slobbers over Brady, wasn’t upbeat about the Bucs’ win. (He was, however, mad at Brady getting charged with an interception because Mike Evans had stone hands.)

Giants-loving, Giants-leaning Tiki Barber, who has a soft spot for the Bucs and his lifelong friend Bucco Bruce Arians, threw cold water on the Bucs win during his weekday CBS Sports Radio gig.

“When you don’t do anything to combat [the Bucs] on either side of the ball, by default they’re going to win by 20,” said Barber, adding that the Giants are horribly coached and it was the correct move to fire his good friend Jason Garrett, the Giants’ playcaller.

Joe is not buying all the we-learning-nothing-about-the-Bucs spin. Joe thinks the Bucs accomplished a lot in getting the job done and extending their perfect home record.

Just look at all the recent upsets in the NFL, including the Titans loss to Houston on Sunday. When you hammer a team like the Bucs did, you’ve done a lot right and possibly changed the direction of your franchise.

But it’s still the Giants. They are one worst teams in NFL. Thats reality. I thought the Giants would make it close but they are a bad team. Colts would be a good measuring stick because we are good football not a powerhouse

  2. Tackleblockwin Says:

This week vs Colts would be a quality win for Bucs. The Bucs easily beat the Giants, like they should have. It’s nice to have games once in a while when we are not stressed out going into the 4th quarter against teams we should easily handle.

  3. Sean Says:

I agree with the other commenters. The Colts are a quality opponent and it’s a road game. If the Bucs want ANY chance of the #1 seed, they really can’t afford to lose again. 13-4 ought will probably do it for the #2 seed.

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

BOZO of the week. The NY media clowns only see things from a NY perspective. They can’t give the other team credit. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 and it’s LAZY & ARROGANT to not look at things from both sides

  5. WyldKat Says:

We didn’t play down to the competition for once, yay!

  6. SB Says:

The thing we DIDN’T do was find a way to lose to a team we were supposed to beat. Something most Bucs fans are familiar with.

  7. zzbuc Says:

Mr Charlie Weis….Mike Evans has 579 receptions, 8945 yards and 71 touchdowns and you call him stone hands??/ Jesus Christ, how can somebody pay him a salary to this Joker!!!!

  8. PassingThru Says:

You guys are on-target. The Giants stink, just like the Jets.

The real test is Sunday, when the Bucs play in Indy. That’s a far better barometer for measuring this team.

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

In his defense the Bucs have not beaten anyone of value yet. Yes they barely beat Dallas but that was Daks first game back but other than that Dallas, Atl, Mia, Pat’s, Eagles, Bears, Giants. Not exactly the echelon of the league.

  10. Kentucky Buc Says:

Welcome to Tom Brady’s world @Joe. Where the media downplays every accomplishment while pumping every new QB who comes along. The goalpost has been moved on this guy and his teams so many times that they’re not even on earth anymore.

  11. SOEbuc Says:

SMB returning with team leading 7 tackles definitely means something as well as Gronkowki getting 71 yards showed there was a big change by the Bucs than just playing a crappy team.

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Listnfrmafar … Dolphins, Falcons, Bears & Giants are all struggling, but the Patriots are doing quite well (particularly with a rookie QB), as are the Cowboys. Both are currently in 1st place in their divisions.

Seems like to the media, when you get beaten by supposedly ‘inferior’ teams (like Washington), you’re dogmeat. When you beat supposedly inferior teams (like the Giants), you’re still dogmeat. Apparently games like Monday night’s are a lose-lose situation for the Bucs.

  13. Orlandobucsfan#1 Says:

We played plenty well enough to win
I’m still worried about Indy and Buffalo.
If we win those 2 we have a decent shot at top seed.

  14. Hodad Says:

Style points don’t matter, a win, is a win. I’d have been down on the Bucs if this win was close, but it wasn’t. I have all my finger nails, and haven’t asked Pete for any medicine. Doesn’t matter how impressed Tiki is now, it’s December, and January that matters.

  15. Scurvy Dogs Says:

They wrote off the Lions win last year too. We all know how that turned out.

  16. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, Pat’s haven’t beaten anyone yet either, Jets twice, Atl, Houston (barely), Cleveland (hurt Mayfield and no Chubb), Charges (so, so team), Carolina ( Sam shat my pants, shouldn’t be a NFL QB because I’m afraid Donald).

  17. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

It was very satisfying to hammer the Giants like that considering all the lucky wins they’ve had against us and agonizingly close games we’ve had over the years despite us being the better team nearly every time. Nice to finally have a convincing win over them.

  18. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Giants have a terrible Offensive line and need a new QB.
    Otherwise, they have some talent.

  19. PSL Bob Says:

In my opinion, two things stand out from the Monday night win. #1, TB seemed much more comfortable in the pocket and had plenty of time to read his options. #2 the defense played much better collectively as a unit. Mre pressure on the QB and better coverage in the secondary. Had ME13 not deflected the pass right in his hands, the score would have been even more lopsided.

  20. Francisco Guzman Says:

They will beat the colts this sunday. They need to start getting on a roll now. These are big games in terms of seeding. You wanna finish with that second seed if you can’t get the first.

  21. '79 Defense Says:

Man, is it nice for a change to talk about another team being crappy, miserable, lacking direction, and how beating them doesn’t mean anything.

  22. Kentucky Buc Says:

Giants have a lot of talent. When u put up 30+ on these grinder teams like Giants, Eagles etc. Not easy to do. Colts are the ultimate grinder team .

  23. Defense Rules Says:

Listnfrmafar … I thought that the Pats were a pretty good test for us, especially going up against a quality defense (we seem to have trouble with those?). Mac Jones impressed me, even though he doesn’t have the weapons that we have (Pats seem to be more of a dink-and-dunk, ground-and-pound offense right now). I don’t see them making it to the Super Bowl this year, but with a few more weapons they’ll be a contender I think in a couple years.

  24. Jerry Says:

Giants have made some games close, but they aren’t very good. We dominated the game and blew them out at home. Which is what we were supposed to do. If the game was close, that would be worrisome.

The Colts on Sunday may be the hardest game left on the schedule. Everyone was scared of the Bills matchup all year. But Buffalo is in a funk and that game is at Ray Jay where the Bucs are dominating. So that one may not be the toughest game anymore.

The Colts are resurging and its away where we are not playing good. If we go to Indy and revert back to playing like we did against the Saints and Washington…this game will be ugly. And it signals a serious problem.

  25. Bucsfanman Says:

You play the team in front of you. “PLAY” being the operative word.
There’s a well known cliché that they even turned into a movie:
    ANY-GIVEN-SUNDAY!!!

Another one is “a win is a win!”

So what?! NYG are in turmoil, boo-hoo! How long did we endure the misery?!

  26. Bojim Says:

We needed to play a good game on both sides of the ball and we did. I’m very happy.

  27. David Says:

    Complete nonsense –
All you need to do is look at the so-called upper echelon teams and the losses to lower level teams the last 3 weeks.
    Every. Single. One. Of. Them.
    Most more than once.

That just proves more than most, this year it does not matter. You better bring it every single Sunday, I do not care who you are facing.

Look at the schedule, the Buccaneers should not lose another game.
But… Colts, Carolina, Buffalo, New Orleans, ATL are all perfectly capable of beating them.

So don’t tell me a win against a so-called lesser team means nothing

  28. Bucs&Bolts Says:

Let’s shutdown Colts and Jonathan Taylor and you’ll get the recognition. Beware NFL Bucs getting hot at just the right time.

  29. Jerry Says:

In the first half of the season, the Bucs beat the Cowboys and Patriots, but can’t beat the Saints and Washington.

So if we apply this to the 2nd half of the season, the Bucs will beat the Colts and Bills, but lose to the Jets and Panthers.

  30. Listnfrmafar Says:

Beat KC, Indy, GB, AZ, Rams & Buffalo any one and I will change my opinion. Though I don’t know what’s up with Buff.

  31. HC Grover Says:

As Bill the Cat would say…Pfttt!

  32. All buc and bite Says:

You play and defeat who is on your schedule…period. If their is nothing good to say…then keep it zipped. Who asked???
