Bucs In Pads On Thanksgiving For Colts’ Run Prep

November 24th, 2021

Spotlight on Vita Vea on Turkey Day

The Indianapolis Colts’ top two running backs have combined to rush the ball 240 times for 1,356 yards in 11 games.

That’s no typo. Joe swears.

Of course, most of that production is from Jonathan Taylor, the NFL’s beast of beasts at running back. He’s averaging 5.8 yards per carry and has been on a ridiculous tear since Week 3. Speed, power, the 22-year-old is the total package.

Taylor runs behind one of the NFL’s stud offensive lines, one Bucco Bruce Arians said may be as good as the Cowboys’, which the Bucs faced on opening day.

NFL teams usually practice in pads on a Wednesday before a Sunday game, their only day in pads for game-week preparation. But the Bucs will go in pads tomorrow, on Thanksgiving, in an early morning session. Arians said today the main reason is to prep for the Colts’ run game and to see how Vita Vea’s bad knee responds to something resembling real football.

Joe sure hopes Vea is up for the challenge. Rakeem Nuñez-Roches and Steve McLendon are productive fill-ins for Vea, but they’re also the kind of guys that will get swallowed whole by this nasty Colts line.

Good luck, Vita!

Pete’s in pads & his period panties to time his cycle with the players

  2. Baba Yaga Says:

    Jeezus Pete…

  3. SufferingSince76 Says:

You are one sick puppy, Pete, but we at least now know part of your problem.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

Jump out to a 3 touchdown lead and make them 1 dimensional. Easier said than done lol

  5. Bosch Says:

The Bills are the only team Indy has defeated with a winning record.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Pete’s pads are made of sheepskin.

  7. Marine Buc Says:

Perhaps wrap Vita Vea up in bubble wrap and put him on the shelf until playoff time. He has already missed 19 games in 3.5 seasons… What difference does a few more make?

  8. Defense Rules Says:

Yes Bosch, but they beat the Bills CONVINCINGLY. Buffalo has the #2 defense in the NFL (#1 against the pass; #9 against the run). They also have the 2nd most takeaways in the NFL: 24 (Colts have the most takeaways: 25). And yet Indy CONTROLLED that game big-time (38-22 TOP, 4-0 Turnover Differential … not to mention 264 rushing yds with a 70% run-pass ratio). Colts scored on 7 of their 9 drives in winning 41-15. That’s DOMINATION.

Question is: How do the Bucs keep from letting them do that to us? Indy ran it 46 times in that game, and Jonathan Taylor had 32 of those rushes, for 185 yds rushing. Wentz was only 11-for-20 (106 passing yds). I’ll bet you anything that the Colts will try to do EXACTLY the same thing to us, except that they’ll probably do a little more play-action & short passing (we’re susceptible to that?).

This’ll be a good test for our defense AND for our offense. if we can’t control their running game better than the Bills did, we’re toast. If our offense turns the ball over like the Bills did, we’re also toast. And if we can’t at least break even on TOP (higher run-pass % than we’ve been using?), we’ll also be toast. Our defense has shown it can’t take that kind of a pounding (that’s how the Rams, Saints & Washington beat us).

  9. Adrnagy Says:

    Easy win for us

Maybe we dont completely shut down their run game but alot ball will in
    wentz ‘s hands. I like.

Our offense vs their defense i like.

  10. Irishmist Says:

A federal judge just struck down Florida’s sports betting agreement with the Seminoles. Does that make us Indian givers?

  11. Bird Says:

Their run game vs our pass game

Should be a good one. In Indy too
Could be a confidence boost with a win

  12. Man Child Says:

@Medicated Pete 10/10 I needed that. Kvolcom MF

  13. David Says:

To me I believe this will be an easier win than people think. They have David or to be joined at the hip with Taylor all day. That’s it.
The D line will hold its own and get after Wentz while Taylor is neutered.

He is their offense. Take away that option while putting points on the board and Wentz will have a long day.

    LFG!!!

  14. Scooter Says:

Saw 4th Quarter of Colts at Ravens about 3 weeks ago. Colts were up 16 points and Lemar Jackson passed all over them. it was eye opening about Colt’s defense. Ravens won game.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

It was wise holding Vea out of the Jints game.

He and Suh will get a LOT of snaps to slow down Taylor.
