Bucs Get A “C-“

November 16th, 2021

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

OK, you watched the game. What’s your takeaway?

John Breech watched the Bucs play as well. And as he does each week, Breech grades each NFL team’s performance.

He stamped the Bucs with a “C-” grade for losing to the WTF.

Buccaneers takeaway: Apparently, someone forgot to tell the Buccaneers their bye was last week, because they decided to take this week off, too. Tom Brady got off to an ice-cold start with an interception on two of Tampa’s first three possessions. Brady’s performance epitomized the day for the Buccaneers: Their offense struggled to move the ball, which was mildly surprising considering that Washington didn’t have Chase Young for half the game. It really wasn’t a good day for anyone wearing pewter: Ryan Succop missed a critical extra point late in the game and the defense surrendered a 10:26 TD drive in the fourth quarter that allowed Washington to seal the win. The Buccaneers have now lost two in a row for just the second time with Brady. Grade: C-

Joe thinks that grade from Breech is generous. Joe couldn’t go above a “D.” Maybe if the Bucs were a middling team this was a “C-” effort. But for a Super Bowl champ, it was a “D” at best. The offense was all out of sorts. The defense was worse. And a key extra point was missed in the second half.

The only two bright spots were the Bucs were getting some pressure on Taylor Heinicke and the blitzes were getting pressure. Factor in the Bucs had a carefree demeanor about the game minutes before kickoff and no way Joe could go higher than a “D.”

    F-

Name one good thing about the game on Sunday… I hope this is the lowest point of the season. Nowhere to go but up from an F- grade.

  2. Robert Says:

the extra point is on you joe for jinxing the kicker. lol

other than that, a C- is about right for the players we had (and did not have) on the field.

They should have pounded the rock all day, ME can still block

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

The Stick Carriers > The Grave Diggers

    Enough said

  4. SC_BUCS_FAN Says:

Too many penalties! Too many check-downs! Too complacent!

  5. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I was there watching it live grade for overall game day experience as a Buc fan was embarrassing!!!! I had all these WFT fans giving me crap…D grade!!!

  6. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I agree with Joe, a C- seems a bit generous.

  7. The Daily Coroner Says:

    D

  8. Parrishbucsfan Says:

If it wasn’t for Devon white finally showing some signs of life I’d give them a an F. But because of Devon I’ll be generous with a D+

  9. Parrishbucsfan Says:

Have we just became the chief’s???

  10. Buc1987 Says:

    D-

  11. Francisco Guzman Says:

Washington only punted twice all game i believe. Complete joke. D-

  12. Defense Rules Says:

‘Joe thinks that grade from Breech is generous.’

Me too; I’d give them an ‘F’ like Marine Buc did. If you lose the Turnover Battle by 1 (like we did Sunday), you’ve historically got a 68% chance of losing the game.

Losing the Time of Possession battle isn’t as damning, but it appears that teams who win the TOP Battle win 66% of the time if they hit the ‘average TOP’. The greater the differential, apparently the higher the odds of winning. Seems to make sense.

So in a game like Sunday’s where we lost the Turnover Battle AND the TOP Battle (decidedly), our odds of winning that game probably weren’t very good to say the least. But stats like that IMO are just a reflection of a team that forgot to show up … and deserved to lose for playing so poorly. That’s the type of game we need to learn from, grow from, and press on. Season’s still only half over.

No shows don’t get a grade, they get booed and hissed.

  14. Yuri Sa Says:

Joe, are you going to question B.A. about his decisions on punting/kicking (he kicked down 14 and 4th and goal and then punted at 4th and 2 while down 13)?

  15. DBS Says:

    F. What kind of curve is he grading on?

  16. PassingThru Says:

    F

I wouldn’t assign an “I” for incomplete. That would infer pass defense.

  17. Jason the licht is never on Says:

Plain and simple a fat F! Coming off a bye! Seriously as a professional football team? It’s not like you were going against the Cards. You came out flat, over confident, and just plain lazy. It was an embarrassing day all of Buccaneer Bay! I really hope it gets rectified and fast.

  18. JGhotier Says:

Funny and bluntly honest snippet from the Bruce Arians Show w/ Casey Phillips…

Casey: “…we know the areas that you wished they (Bucs Defense vs WFT) had done a little bit more, but what do you think they did well?”

    BA: “not much….not much”

😂 it’s true and I always like and respect the candor

  19. alton d green Says:

i’ve noticed that no-one has mentioned the fact that the Bucs blew a golden opportunity to put the nail in the coffin of the NFC South. and possibly a 1st round bye!!!!!!! Saints,Cards and Rams lost. That means almost nothing since the Bucs choked too. AGAIN BRUCE, that one int WAS NOT Tom’s fault

  20. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

Every week the NFL is on a “PASS/FAIL” system, no letter grades and last week the Bucs failed……

  21. alton d green Says:

also, they dropped several passes. Stop cherry pickn Bruce. the WFT offensive game plan had to be the easiest assignment EVER! The only mistake they made was running the ball at all hahahhaha

  22. firethecannons Says:

convinced me that unless there is a radical change with Bowles led defense , this team will lose to the Giants on MNF

  23. TOM Says:

    Definitely an F

  24. Pine Hills Says:

    F

  25. SlyPirate Says:

The Bucs looked bad … blah, blah, blah. This is familiar territory for Bucs fans. What we do is look for …

    SILVER LININGS …

Devin White played like the DPOY. 18 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 3 TFL.

    HOLY COW!!!!

    PLUS …

JTS got another sack. The man-child will be great.

    PLUS …

The OL gave up 0 sacks, 0 TFL, 1 QB hit.

SO MUCH GOOD. EVEN WHEN WE’RE BAD.

Perhaps you forgot about this team called the Packers… who look unstoppable (as long as Rodgers is playing lol)

    BUCS rank #7 – NE rank #9
NE; that is how REAL coaching looks like. Most refuse to accept the joke we have as HC.
BB is winning with 23 years old ROOKIE QB.
If we play them tomorrow, they shall embarrass us.
TB12 mention “a plan” need it, he remember how did they deal with injury situations …
Instead we hear JUSTIFICATIONS from 🤡 HC, and hours of interviews every week.
Sad; We got the players; We got injuries; We got NO PLAN.
    Team is being wasted……

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

Unbelievable, I forgot them on purpose because no matter what seed they are at the end Roger’s will screw it up. Jones out 2-3 weeks.

  32. Mike Johnson Says:

Time to het up out of that golf cart there Brucey. Less talkin and more coaching.

  33. Hodad Says:

Either you win, and get an A, or you lose and get an F. I don’t see any in between. Consider the fact that your the S.B. champs, and you lose to a 2-6 team there’s no doubt you get an F grade.

  34. FrankPillow Says:

Pure humiliation and a lack of fire from anyone not wearing 14, 54 and 45 on their shirts…WFTs final drive should go down as the most embarrassing football we’ve witnessed in decades. Rah, Greg, Lovie and Dirk never had a collection of talent like this on D, even with the injuries at DB. Todd’s blitzes only fool his own players. There’s nothing remotely inventive going on there or on O. That was a joke performance by a bunch of disinterested fellas.

  35. Wesley Says:

A solid F-, team and fans were embarrassed.

  36. Wild Bill Says:

Not been a big fan of 4net, but he ran hard in that game. More effort than too many others. Brady looked pissed the whole game and not much effort. Why? Most of the defense played hard until the 4th quarter. Defensive backs sucked as usual. Whole team out coached and out played.

  37. August 1976 Buc Says:

    yeah Joe “D” at best

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  38. NCFlorIdiot Says:

I’m watching the game for the first time and my concern is with the offense. Defensive struggle is understandable… Brady is throwing bullets 5 yards away, just pegging receivers/running backs. Also, I understand throwing it low to avoid interceptions, but there’s too many incompletes due to the low throws.

  39. unbelievable Says:

    @ Listnfrmafar

Lol I hope you’re right. But they were right there last year, and IMO lost because their head coach pulled a lovie Smith and didn’t go for a TD… and their defense is much improved from last year.

Plus the Cardinals… I dunno, Bucs just seem weak and soft this year. Whooped up on a few terrible teams but otherwise haven’t even played a full game competently.
