Bruce Arians Talks Diminished Caution

November 24th, 2021

Bucco Bruce Arians

Joe was terrified watching Richard Sherman play cornerback for the Bucs and those fears didn’t allay much when Dee Delaney and fragrant Pierre Desir replaced him.

Joe’s Bucs life was very different seeing Murphy-Bunting returning to the starting lineup on Monday night. It was like going from eating a crappy hamburger at Checkers or antibiotic-infused chicken at PDQ to a fine meal at a Big Storm Brewery tap room.

Bucco Bruce Arians spoke about a hard difference on his official team radio show last night.

“Having Sean back we were able to play a little more man-to-man,” Arians said.

Translation: Todd Bowles lost his fear factor and the played less of the zone coverage they’re not very good at playing.

It was a joy to watch, and it was refreshing to hear a Bucs coach share a kernel of why and how the Bucs changed things up.

SMB played way better than Pete expected for 1st game back. He was really aggressive & not afraid of Antonio Wingfield Jr knocking his other bones out of their sockets

Bunting clearly made a huge difference. Something that has always gone unnoticed is how good of a tackler Bunting is. He came up and stuck several key tackles that forced 3rd down plays…….We havent been making those plays and we have been gagging up 1st downs.

Looked to me like Buntings presence spread to the rest of the defense too. Our safeties had their best game rallying to the football. Even Dean played big with a few really difficult tackles, not his strong suit. Our LBs looked much more confident and were flashing all over the field………..When your NT is collecting INTs its safe to say your defense is terrorizing!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

And if Indy gonna try and run the ball on us we will destroy them.

Interesting, was it the addition of SMB or that Bowles chose to play man coverage? If zone wasn’t working SMB or not why not go to man more anyway?

  5. Beeej Says:

Zone helps to cover up lack of skill/speed among individual players

Beej, I get that but it wasn’t working.

    1- checkers burgers are delicious
    2- PDQ tenders are awesome
3- Delaney is a much better CB than people are giving him credit for. For the most part he played pretty damn well, especially when playing tight coverage.
4- but overall you are correct JOE! Having SMB back (and soon CD!!) means better tighter coverage overall, which means a little more time for the pass rush, which all means D White being freed up to wreak havoc !!

Here’s to no more injuries this year! 🍺

While zone covers for lack of speed. Man on Man can be easier for replacement players to learn and implement.
