Bruce Arians And Sean Murphy-Bunting’s Snap Count

November 23rd, 2021

Sean Murphy-Bunting was focused on his return Monday.

Was Bruce Arians fibbing last week, or did he just not want to fix something that wasn’t broken last night?

Last week the Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach, while hinting cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was close to returning, suggested SMB would be in a part-time role initially. Why?

Because, Arians said, being in shape is different than being in game shape. He may not be able to carry a full workload.

“Getting him back is one thing but playing 60 plays is another,” Arians said on Saturday. “They haven’t played that much football. Sean has been out a long time. So we can’t overload him.

“There are spots where if we can get him back, he can help us for sure and gradually get his role back.”

So, what was SMB’s snap count last night? Arians was right, it wasn’t 60. It was 57 in a game where the Bucs emptied their bench in the fourth quarter.

So Joe figures SMB and the Bucs’ secondary was playing so well against the talented Giants offensive weapons that Todd Bowles and Arians didn’t want screw things up by taking SMB out. Or, SMB was in better shape than coaches envisioned.

Either way, it was damn nice for a chance to see decent cornerback play once SMB got his sealegs after the first couple of Giants drives.

SMB just being out there makes a difference b/c he’s got the prototype body to slow down WR’s

Bruce still has the most penalty yards in the NFL. And he’s a hilarious comedian

Or, most likely, BA was talking for the Giants’ ears.

Great game by the D, but I’m starting to worry that Shaq is hiding a injury, did not here his name at all!!! Very concerning. Joe can you ask Bruce or Bowles what’s up?

When CD24 comes back this D will be rocking at the right time of year. Also not playing Vita last night was a great decision, need him down the stretch and playoffs! Can’t wait for the Vita vs Nelson matchup next Sunday

I think it was both…….SMB playing well & him also being in better shape than expected…..air on the side of caution with injuries….

SMB made a world of difference. The funny thing is SMB played a total of like 17 snaps before his injury. People on here were lambasting him because he got burnt a few times. Hey, I’m passionate and guilty as charged as the game goes on. I can’t necessarily help those emotions. I love hard on this team. However, after having time to think rationally after games are a different story. SMB is super valuable to this team. He’s a playmaker. He’s got McClendon hands you might say. If he has a chance to make a pick, he makes it. For some of you youngsters and those with memory loss, please try to understand that Ronde Barber got burnt a lot but he always made plays and he adjusted. Getting burnt happens. It’s a tough position. Look at Dean. Sometimes you think he’s Deion Sanders and others he looks lost in outer space. The fact of the matter demonstrated by the practice squad guys we played is that you need SMB, Dean and we are still sorely missing CD24. I like SMB’s style of play and he won me over with that filthy pick of Aaron Rodgers in the NFCCG last year. That was right behind Scottie’s immaculate 1st half TD reception.

Well said cmurda. SMB, Dean and Davis are the best trio of CBs we’ve has since Barber, Kelly and Smith. Go argue with a tree if you disagree.

Props to SMB for playing so well after that kind of injury.

MPete, Nagy not fired, but Jason Garrett was.

As well as the coverage was, what impressed me more was his closing on receivers. The dude attacked the ball rather than waiting for receivers to come to him. And, he made tackles. That was good to see for a change.

Great to have SMB back and Gronk. A few more pieces and I believe it’s back to the Super Bowl. GO BUCS!

I was really impressed with Todd this game didn’t think he would change his soft coverage schemes but there was alot of man mixed in had danny dimes totally confused from start to finish

Like the photo of SMB with the camera, talk about a pricey piece of tech. It was a solid game played by the entire team. Now, how about we do it to the Colts and especially, the Aints!

    totally agree with this!
Glad to see they have him fitted into the bionic arm brace, I feel more comfortable with that. LOL!
