“They’re Not Going Up There With No Paper”

Bucs legend Warren Sapp

Some fans get annoyed when Joe refers to the Patriots’ head coach as Bill Belicheat.

It’s not complicated; Belicheat has been caught insulting the game by cheating. Google it. But Joe’s not the only guy very suspicious of all things Belicheat.

Bucs legend Warren Sapp talked on The Rich Eisen Show this week about how the Bucs are “not going up there with no paper” playbooks, when they embark on their road trip to New England for Sunday night’s big game.

Sapp told a story of how Father Dungy would not allow the Bucs to bring paper on the plane to New England during the Bucs’ trip there in 2000.

Dungy, per Sapp, explained that too many teams traveled to the Patriots and quickly were trailing in the game by two scores. Dungy was paranoid that there was some sort of shady operation within the New England organization. (Sapp did not mention strip malls.)

So Dungy set up garbage cans at the Bucs’ team bus and made every player dump his playbook before leaving for the airport. Sapp added that Keshawn Johnson had a total meltdown because he wanted to study his playbook.

Would anyone put it past the Patriots to bug the visitors locker room, or pay off housekeeping at the Bucs’ team hotel to help get an edge on Sunday?

Joe wouldn’t bet a nickel against it.

Ironically, the guys obsessed with paper notes and playbooks on the Bucs are Tom Brady and Byron Leftwich.

Dungy was right. That season opener (a Bucs win) was the start of Spygate.

“First, the Patriots had a detailed, efficient system for finding out opponents’ plays. ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham describe a scene in Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s office before a season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

“[A backup quarterback named John] Friesz was told that the Patriots had a tape of the Bucs’ signals. He was instructed to memorize them, and during the game, to watch Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and tell [offensive coordinator Charlie] Weis the defensive play, which Weis would relay over the radio headset system to quarterback Drew Bledsoe.””

Just more evidence that Belicheat is a dirtbag. Brady wants to destroy him on Sunday in front of the entire world

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Not the greatest moral authority in Sapp, there.

  4. adam from ny Says:

saw this interview in the middle of the night the other night on youtube…with rich eisen…

it was good stuff – and sapp definitely let it be known…

and if you saw the interview, i was really feeling sapp’s green socks to match his hawaiian shirt

    🙂

  5. Howard Cosell Says:

Brady knows Belicheat better than Belicheat knows himself.

  6. Howard Cosell Says:

They tried to muzzle Brady and then take credit for his gamesmanship

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Howard, I was thinking the same thing. Brady was there through all of Belichek’s shenanigans. He obviously won’t allow his Bucs to start off at a disadvantage. Non-issue.

  8. Bird Says:

Whats worse. The thought its true about pats?

    Or warren sapp’s outfit?

I mean did he leave the house going oh yah…balling

  9. Mike Says:

Teams just want to find a reason for losing to Belichick, but they might just lost games by TB ‘s excellent presnap

  10. James Says:

You can google a lot of things that are not true. You seriously think that with all the players that have gone through the Patriots system and they kept it secret? Don’t be dumb, especially Joe who has never even watched a Pats game. …Speaking of not true … –Joe

  11. Jim Says:

    I want that shirt.

  12. Jimmy Says:

When did Warren Sapp turn into Esther Rolle?

  13. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

For those who claim its not true, you are right, you do NOT have to google it. So can you explain why ALL coaches cover their mouth so no one can read their lips? Quit being so naive.

  14. G.Marosi Says:

    Exactly Sr. Harry.,,,

  15. BucsMinisiterFuller Says:

Was taping the other teams practices against the rules when it happened?
    Asking for a friend.

  16. IrishMist Says:

So electronic playbooks can’t be hacked?

  17. M. Steelman Says:

Didn’t care if big Bill is a cheat when my boy Tom played there. But I can tell you I suspected they did before they got caught. Bill is the teflon Don. Nothing leads to him.

  18. getting nervous Says:

come on u dont think other teams taped opponents practices or tried to fig.out signals,i cant stand belichick but if your nit doing that then ure not working hard enough.i would bet my life there not the only ones that have done that nit that they ever needed to with brady, did any of that help brady throw it threw 3 defenders and right into his wr.s hands.
