Should Have Been More Points

October 13th, 2021

“Miami is so dumb, Tom!”

Interesting words from a couple of NFL types. One is an offensive coordinator. Another is a former NFL offensive lineman and current analyst.

Both think the Bucs shorted themselves offensively last weekend.

Joe heard Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich remark this week he thought the Bucs left plays out on the field. Of course, this means Leftwich thought the Bucs could have put more points on the scoreboard.

Then there is Brian Baldinger. The former Colts offensive lineman now works for several media entities including NFL Network. Baldinger likes to break down tape and share his findings on Twitter, which is way cool.

Baldinger, in so many words, claimed the sad Dolphins played with their heads up their tailpipes last Sunday. He demonstrates one play where Miami defenders had no clue who was supposed to cover Playoff Lenny as he went in motion — picked up on immediately by salad-bar-hating, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

Word is around the league: If you want to beat the Bucs, your offense better wear its big boy pants if to keep up with the Bucs’ offense.

Joe’s loving every second of this!

… yes true statement, but more important the 60 points, is the health of the starters, and the Thursday night game.
Fans understood that, and after last TD 80% left the stadium. But we were very happy. 🙋‍♂️

  2. Minnesota Buc Says:

Well, if we hadn’t needlessly taken 3 knees on the 5 yard line it would’ve been better. Should’ve made a statement right there

  3. HC Grover Says:

More points than the other guy is enough points.

Dolphins were outmatched from the get go. But they played with a lot of guts and heart through the first 3 quarters. Bucs showed a lot of class with the kneel downs at the end. They knew the game was a wipeout. No reason to pull the crap Sean Payton pulls by shoving it down the other team’s throat. Kudos to Randy and the O.

I hate iPads. Kudos to Brady and the O.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Not sure I understand what Baldy is driving at with his 60 points. Could the Bucs have scored 60 pts against the Dolphins? I’m convinced they could, but that belies the point of what I think they were trying to accomplish in that game.

Bucs controlled the TOP 37 mins to 23 mins. We had 74 offensive plays to the Dolphins 54. We put up 33 first downs to the Dolphins 17. We amassed 558 total yards to their 301 yds. And oh ya, we scored 45 points to their 17 points.

Bottom line is that we CONTROLLED THE GAME, and I think that’s what the goal was. With our hurting defense, that’s what it’ll take to win game after game. If our defense has to stay on the field for 33-34 mins like it did in the Dallas & Atlanta games, it’ll be hurting. The way to keep guys fresh is to keep the number of defensive snaps down by keeping them on the bench. And that’s where our offense can help by CONTROLLING THE GAME. And yes, it’ll take some running to do that, and maybe ONLY scoring 45 points a game in the process. Woe is us.

  7. PassingThru Says:

Tampa Bay only punted once the entire game.

  8. Jerry Says:

Only thing the offense can do better is try to control the clock better. They did good against the Dolphins. And Fournette was a huge reason why. But in the other games the problem is the offense is so good that it can score extremely fast. Meanwhile the other team is dinking and dunking. That means our defense is getting gassed. You don’t want to not score of course. And I know Brady always wants to be aggressive with the pass (especially with these weapons). But if the run game gets efficient, they can reduce the number of snaps by the other team while still scoring points. It’ll make it even harder for the other team to stay with us on the scoreboard. They will have less opportunity.

Rams game looks like a bit of a fluke and a situation where the Rams wanted the win a heck of a lot more. McVay was jumping around like he just won the Super Bowl. And then the Rams looked completely spent in the next game against the Cardinals. So that’s one of those games you just have to toss out.

I think the 60 points comment is more a dig at the Dolphins bc they didn’t have their sh*t together. It’s more a funny remark than a criticism, let’s not get too worked up over this.

  10. Shark Coast Tactical Says:

Thought the same thing. I wanted 6 touchdowns so much time left. I was at the game and it just felt Brady was toying with them. Going for Big yards because he could. He’s a GD alien.

  11. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Being gassed is not the defenses problem. The offense can have a 13 play 6 minute drive and the defense will still allow offenses to go down the field on them. No pressure soft or no coverage and Lbs playing too close to the line when everybody is passing against us. Can’t stop a slant or any pass to save their lives. The offense should have it in their mind to score at least 35 points as quickly as possible. They do that and even if the T.O.P. is highly in the other team’s favor it won’t matter if the defense can’t pressure the qb or stop the pass.

  12. Alan Collingwood Says:

Could the Bucs have run up the score at the end? Of course, they did kneel downs at the Fin’s 5 yard line for crying out loud. But why would a coach embarrass another coach when there is no need? It is classy, and good sportsmanship. 45-17, you’ve already made your statement!

  13. Rich 12 Says:

Would love to see the bucs run up the score on Sean payton

  14. Alan Collingwood Says:

I agree, Rich. If we’re talking Sean Peyton, words like “classy” and “good sportsmanship” fly right out the window. All’s fair against THAT jackwad!
