Rob Gronkowski Tells Jay Glazer His Injury Is Much More Severe Than Reported

October 3rd, 2021

Beat up.

This is gnarly stuff and if true, Joe has to wonder about the X-ray machines teams use at stadiums.

Uber NFL insider and human cockfighting-enthusiast Jay Glazer of FOX Sports apparently talked to Bucs foot-rubbing, car-littering, film guru tight end Rob Gronkowski. And it seems Gronk is really messed up.

Yesterday Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Gronk fractured ribs that somehow got past Gronk’s initial X-ray at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last week.

But MRI detected several fractured ribs, per Rapoport. It is worse than that, Gronk said by way of Glazer. Gronk told Glazer that he also has a broken rib and a punctured lung (and the dude played with this!).

What immediately came to Joe’s mind is how the hell did an X-ray machine not pick up on a punctured lung?

If that is the case, that opens up the Rams (NFL?) to some kind of lawsuit. What else are these X-ray machines not catching and with what are dudes suffering and still going back on the field?

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete will spiral out of control if a ball goes off OJ’s hands for INT & Mike Evans drops balls. Bucs run it 25 times

  2. Hodad Says:

[When you post irresponsible sh!t, yeah it gets deleted. So Bruce Arians is supposed to have X-ray vision to determine if a guy has broken bones? He goes by what the trainers and the player(s) tell him and they were using (tainted?) results from an X-ray machine. — Joe]

  3. Mort Says:

How would an X-ray pick up a punctured lung? The ribs however should’ve been depending on where and how they are cracked or broken.

  4. Joe Says:

How would an X-ray pick up a punctured lung?

Not an X-ray technician but wouldn’t there be a spot on the lung? Wouldn’t the lung be at least partially depressed?

  5. Steven007 Says:

Joe, soft tissue would not be picked up well on an x-ray looking for ribs. A small pneumothorax is typically not picked up on an x-ray.

  6. Medicated Pete Says:

Bruce’s philosophy “My liver is injured every day & i still show up to work, so can you”

  7. Hodad Says:

Joe, did you think the lung got punctured after he went back in the game? Maybe the X rays were negative until he took more hits thanks to his old school fool of a head coach.

  8. Buczilla Says:

Geez, there is no questioning Gronk’s toughness and I’d be suing the hell out of whomever did the initial x-ray.

  9. Bojim Says:

Had three ribs and a collapsed lung from a motorcycle accident. He’ll be lucky to make it back by playoffs. Hope so!!

  10. Buxszntkt Says:

That’s the problem with team docs. Team docs are usually orthopedic surgeons. They really know nothing but bones and soft tissue after years of doing nothing but.
It’s understandable they may have missed fractured ribs on a rib series, but worse, they could easily be expected to miss the punctured lung since their attention is 100% cued to the bones.
Same reason Chris Simms was left in with a ruptured spleen. The team doc was not a trauma specialist, surgeon or ER doc to consider that fractured rib in his flank may have ruptured his spleen, he was all focused on how much pain might that broken rib be causing and can he play through that pain, wrong mindset.

  11. Joe Says:

Joe, did you think the lung got punctured after he went back in the game?

If Joe had that kind of ESP he’s get the Powerball winning numbers.

  12. Winny Testaverde Says:

Joe already hit the lottery with JBF dot Com and signed the biggest free agent ( Ira Don’t Call Me Irv ) not named Reggie White or Tom Brady.

Gross negligence and folly sending Gronk back out there after injury.

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

With Gronk out for awhile, it is now or never time for OJ Howard to step up, and fulfill his promise.

  14. Winny Testaverde Says:

You can’t win it all in Game 3 of a 17 week season ( looking at you, Sean McVay )…but you can possibly lose it all if ya ain’t careful.

  15. HC Grover Says:

    I hate the Rams.

  16. Medicated Pete Says:

Bucs have always had the worst team Doctors in NFL & Sports history. Pete thinks they use Dr. Nick Rivera from The Simpsons

  17. SB~LV Says:

Tough SOB to even walk normally into the tunnel for X-rays .
Damn ! Fractured bone poking into your lung. Two more weeks me thinks !
Nice hit ! Our DB’s should study that form.

  18. Tnoles Says:

I wonder what Dean is thinking about his toughness knowing Gronk played through such an unbelievably painful injury. How long of a recovery time is involved? Is he out till the playoffs? Done for the year? I hope not. So here you go OJ it’s your chance to shine, if you screw this up you won’t be back next year. Perhaps Cam makes an impact? Man Gronk is such a good blocker that and his connection with Brady I think hurts.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

    Well dayum.

  20. BerrickDrooks Says:

See you in the playoffs Gronk. Rest up.

  21. Kyle Says:

Haha pete… re Arians liver post. Good one.

  22. Rick Says:

He belongs on IR and we shouldn’t have cut Davis

  23. Miller5252 Says:

This has always followed Gronk through his whole career. Crazy he was able to come back. Must have sucked with every snap and contact.

Is anyone else having problems with pages loading and it saying not able to connect to them. Having to reset them multiple times. Not having issues on any other sites. Just curious

  24. Biff Barker Says:

Speaking of the sage Joe, what is the name of his favorite restaurant in New Port Richey? I have a family member looking for a good chinese place up that way.

  25. Hodad Says:

Joe, my whole point was Gronk should’ve never been put back in that game. You didn’t need esp to know that.

  26. Pruritus Ani Says:

Punctured lung could have easily been missed, even a fx, particularly if there were no other symptoms. Because he went back in the game, it will be hard to conclusively prove it was missed on the X-ray. Argument will be the inj occurred subsequent to the original film. Just terrible news for all fans and Gronk.

  27. ModHairKen Says:

When did the punctured lung occur? At the first impact or after he returned? He took some hits even after he returned.

We all know X-rays show bones more prominently than a MRI, and MRIs show ligaments, cartilage and tendons better than an X-ray. Yet, sometimes, things do not show up on an X-ray but do on a MRI.

I hope he gets well soon. I’m sure he is extremely disappointed he’s not playing in this game. But maybe that’s divine intervention. Maybe the spotlight is solely supposed to shine on TB12 tonight.

  29. crazyBucs_CL Says:

Gronk should retired. These sets of coaches don’t deserve player like him.
TV 🤡 the week before the game that Gronk got hurt, said:”he is going to cut his veteran’s days off, cause Gronk doesn’t was films”…really?? he cracked half of his body for the love of the game, and MAYBE his lung got puncture after the “caring HC”, put him back on the game…no you don’t deserve players like Gronk.
I hope he retire, and never come back to play for 🤡.
Go and play with OJ now…. that is what you deserve.

  30. PassingThru Says:

Let’s be thankful it was an upper body injury. Lots of players, especially DBs aim for Gronk’s knees due to his size and strength. At least you know Gronk will be back at some point this season. Lower body injury around the knees, that would likely be it for Gronk this season, if not his career.

  31. GMC hater Says:

Time for brate and oj to step up!

  32. Vsyl Says:

Can’t really understand all the hate suddenly for the coaches and others. Mistakes are being made for sure, but come on, some takes here are laughable at best.

  33. Hodad Says:

When the rebuild begins we’ll be a head of the game with having Trask. Hopefully we won’t need to use a high pick for a QB. We’ll need those picks for Suh, JPP, David, and all the other old men on our team. Not to mention all the one year deals we’ll have to replace. Think of Trask as a savings bond. Should be worth more when you need to cash it in.

  34. mark2001 Says:

Can’t really understand all the hate suddenly for the coaches and others

I can…when our leaders speak and act towards others with hatred and blatant disrespect, I think it is to be expected. The question isn’t why all the hatred. The question is how could we lift up such people to the highest offices in the land. And put them in a position to poison our dialogue, and become role models for our young people.

  36. firethecannons Says:

JOE!: The xray machines work, they are hairline fractures and that usually is only detected with mri. The pneumothorax only happened gradually-a tiny puncture lead to tiny leakage of air–that shows up gradually. he may even need a chest tube–that is worst case scenario. Anyway when he was xrayed at sofi he didn’t have pneumothorax — that will take a while unless you have a huge puncture.

  39. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

If O.J. Howard can’t thrive with the greatest QB in history throwing him the ball, there’s no hope for him.

  40. carzyBucs_CL Says:

as of today, after 4 weeks, we are third team on our division. that mean not even wild card. can we beat Carolina, Saint, Atlanta @ their home???
22 champions back, that was unheard of GOOD, so who is/are the culprits…

  41. WyomingBucsFan Says:

The Bucs went to the well one to many times with Gronk over the middle. Now it’s time to move on. He has to go on IR obviously and will be ready to practice in 4 weeks.

  42. Rod Munch Says:

On a different note, I’m wondering if he Bucs don’t use Godwin in the backfield, at least a few plays, maybe 3rd and under 5 or so. If they used him as the 3rd down back, and slide Tyler Johnson into Godwin’s WR slot, that would probably be better than having Rojo or Fournette in that pass catching role where you know one of them will clank the ball off their hands and knock it in the air.

  43. carzyBucs_CL Says:

1/4 of the season: Carolina #1, SaintWinston #2, and #3 is for grab in NFC south div.
    any one disagreed?? 🤔

  44. Medicated Pete Says:

Winfield Jr. better have a great game. Never 4get he was responsible for ending Sean Murphy’s season b/c he was late rotating to the deep coverage

  45. Buxszntkt Says:

It may well be a tiny puncture. One you would not see on an x-ray, but can’t miss on the sebsequent MRI, or a CT if one were done. May not be all on a bonehead bone Dr.

  46. NPRbuc Says:

I was told 4-6 weeks for four ( non displaced) fractured ribs. One showed on X-ray. Other 3 on MRI. My 4-6 weeks took 5 months before I could even sleep in a bed! All the best to Gronk. Hope he is a fast healer.

  47. Rod Munch Says:

Listening to some Pats podcasts and Boston radio, they seem to think the Patriots are going to play a ton of defensive backs on defense and try to make the Bucs resort to just running the ball for 5 yards a clip, and try to frustrate Brady into taking some deep shots even as there’s no one open because there’s 7 or 8 DBs playing. If the Pats do that, it’s an interesting strategy, but I can’t imagine it working, I can’t see Brady falling for it and just throwing up the ball into heavy coverage. If the Pats do run a 3-8 or 4-7 defense, it should be a huge night for the RBs. Personally I don’t buy, since everyone is saying that is going to be the plan, I assume Bill isn’t going to be that predictable.

  48. Rod Munch Says:

    The 3-0 Panthers.

    LOL!

  49. Destinjohnny Says:

    Howard it’s time

  50. carzyBucs_CL Says:

all the teams, including NE, talking for plans, strategies, tricks….., as they should, BUT us.
we don’t have such a things….ALL we have and talk about, is TB12.
Can we win this year ONLY with Tom??
For sure that is what TV 🤡, DC Tooood 😶, and BL hoping….

  51. Buxszntkt Says:

Rod Muncher, I think AB fills the Edelman style receiver better than Godwin. Let AB run-out the short 5 heard dink and dunk and Godwin 10 yards deeper. Pat’s have to pick which one to double.

  52. Rod Munch Says:

Buxszntkt – I agree with you on AB on the Edelman/Welker role, but I’m not talking about running short routes, I’m saying use Godwin in the backfield. Brady wants to throw to his RB, but the RBs can’t catch the ball, so having Godwin playing RB solves that problem. Just something to watch for. If Rojo or Fournette causes a turnover because they can’t catch and they knock the ball in the air, it’s gonna get ugly.

  53. Rod Munch Says:

Saints defense is uncharacteristically really sloppy allowing big plays to let the Giants back into that game. If the Giants can somehow win, that would be huge.

  54. View from 132 Says:

Feel bad for Gronk, but Brady was getting too locked in on me. Time to find out if we have a real offense beyond “look for 87”… Evans, Godwin, AB, Lenny, Brate, OJ… there is no excuse without Gronk. This is still a loaded offense.

  55. PassingThru Says:

    Panthers lost, Saints lost.

  56. Rod Munch Says:

    LOL! The Giants win it!

WOW did the Saints defense get insanely sloppy.

The Saints are still going to be a pain in the a– to deal with, so getting early loses is good.

AND the Redskins get a huge play to get a TD in the last seconds to take the lead over the Falcons!

  57. Listnfrmafar Says:

Arians went on to say, “If Gronk watched film he would of known that was coming, now rub some dirt on your ribs and get back out there. Oh and I don’t want to hear that I can’t breathe excuse.” Really? Why? Idiots, where was Guerre when you need him?

  58. Jerry Says:

Saints, Panthers, and Falcons all lose.

  59. Doctor Stroud Says:

Heart breaking losses for all of the NFC South Division opponents. It’s time for the Bucs to ‘siege the day’!

  64. firethecannons Says:

also a career ending anything for djax

  65. Rod Munch Says:

Watching Redzone, so seeing all the games today, and bad defense is a real issue all over the league. Seemingly no one can tackle, and very few can cover. Sort of makes me wonder in the Bucs defense isn’t as bad as it seems, because most defenses in the NFL are terrible.

  66. firethecannons Says:

    so far:
    Saints lose!
    Panthers lose!
    Falcons lose!
    Rams gettin beat!

  67. Jmarkbuc Says:

Looks like a mudder tonight at Foxborough.. hope we can run the ball.

  68. Hodad Says:

Rod don’t forget too all the new rules favor the offense now. Good defense is a penalty now.

  69. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Did you…did you really call MMA “human cockfighting” 🤦‍♂️ I guess Bruce Lee was just a human cockfighter ☺️

  70. PassingThru Says:

Yeah, that rainstorm forecast moved up from around midnight to near game time, possibly before.

  71. Rod Munch Says:

Hodad – yeah, absolutely. Plus all the offseason and practice restrictions – seems like the biggest causality is tackling, it’s so poor. Like Taysom Hill’s TD run today, there’s literally like 5 people who tried to arm tackle him. There was another TD run where something similar happened. When Alstott would break tackles, it was truly impressive because he was literally breaking tackles where guys were attempting to wrap him up and running people over, but just bouncing off someone who has their arms out, it’s just not as impressive.

  72. Rod Munch Says:

Also more evidence that maybe the defense isn’t as bad as we think it is…

The Redskins were expected to have one of the best defenses in football this year, and against the Falcons they gave up 30 points and Ryan had 4 TDs.

The Panthers had the best defense in football and the Cowboys put up 36 points, giving up 245 yards on the ground.

And we know the Rams have one of the best offenses in football.

So again, while the defense has looked bad – maybe they offenses they’ve been facing are really really good. The Patriots are not really really good on offense, they’re pretty bad on offense, so if the Pats carve up the defense then you can really start to worry, but maybe this is the game where the defense gets right and looks dominant. Not expecting that, but based on the other results we’re seeing, maybe that is what we should expect.

  73. firethecannons Says:

It is all about their offensive line strength

  74. Listnfrmafar Says:

No mud on artificial turf, Brady has played some of his best games in inclement weather. Not sure I can same for Mac Jones.

  75. Rod Munch Says:

From what I see on weather, looks like there’s a 50% chance of light rain for most of the game, but as you hit 11pm, it starts to pick up. If that is the case, it shouldn’t be much of an issue unless the game is still in question late. Hopefully the Bucs can put them away early.

  76. Rod Munch Says:

The refs just screwed the Steelers – took a TD off the board on a blocked FG because of an offsides that wasn’t offsides.

That needs to be added to the replay reviews, because the Bucs got screwed, the Steelers got screwed and in both cases my fantasy team got screwed.

  77. The Beer Whisperer Says:

It was fun while it lasted.

  78. The Beer Whisperer Says:

My fantasy team, is just a fantasy.

  79. Rod Munch Says:

Chris Meyers sucks, he is truly awful at his job. Why would they have such an uninteresting, untalented, dullard on national TV?

  80. Rod Munch Says:

Russell Wilson just showed a perfect example of awful tackling — a corner comes on a blitz, has Wilson dropped for a sack, and instead just sort of sticks his arms out, doesn’t even make an attempt to wrap up, Wilson spins, and hits a guy wide open in the endzone for a TD. Pitiful tackling, even for a corner.

  81. PassingThru Says:

If it rains, it will affect ball security first and foremost. You’d think Belichick would want the field tarped up for the best running conditions rather than encourage the Bucs to pass.

  82. Kalind Says:

Rest up Gronk! Get well soon!

  83. firethecannons Says:

Hoping to see rams get beat, retribution for what they did to our Gronk

  84. unbelievable Says:

    Sucks.

    Depth getting tested.

Hope he’s ready to go by the playoffs.

  85. JimmyJack Says:

I will mention the only sivler lining of this awful news is that its only week 3 and broken ribs are not season ending this early. If Gronk has enough will power to return he will…..And I bet he does.

And for all you babies crying about him playing. What were they supposted to do? The tests came back negative, the trainers gave the thumbs up, Gronk said he was good to go back in……….For all they knew it was only a bruise. You want them to start shutting down players over bruises? Thats not football, heck thats not sports.

If you can share news to the contrary and they knew they were sending Gronk in under serious injury then you got a point. But you cant cause you wont. Cappa did the same thing last year. Thats called Championship mentality. Yall whined for a culture change for more then an entire decade and when we finally get it you still complain. Yall never cease to amaze me.

  86. Flyin Dutchman Says:

This sucks. Gronk is so likeable

  87. alton d green Says:

OK Bucs, here’s your chance to take control. Panthers lost and the Saints lost

  88. Winny Testaverde Says:

Much different demeanor for Sean McVay today…guess he thought last week was the Super Bowl.

  89. Buxszntkt Says:

Yes, I think the Rams were so impressed with themselves beating us they may not have been prepped. Sort of a week 3 hangover versus a super bowl hangover, lol.
    Awesome for JJ Watt !

  90. Jerry Says:

Rams played last week like it was the Super Bowl. Now they are playing like crap.

Cardinals about to become the only undefeated team left in the NFC.

  91. Listnfrmafar Says:

They have Seattle next Thursday not an easy game.

  92. Rod Munch Says:

Man did the Steelers get screwed with that blocked FG return for a TD that they falsely called offsides. Would be a 3-point game with 3 mins left, instead it’s a 10-point game.

  93. adam from ny Says:

    this is really getting fishy…

let’s get it straight, we’ve got beef with the rams…

    they are our new nemesis…

what if he knows bill totally hates his azz…

what if he got an annon text saying “we know you’ve got bad ribs and we will break them this week when you reach up for a pass in foxboro”…

    what if?…

something is up – and if this is true, then gronk is out for like half the season
