Old Timer May Still Have It

October 14th, 2021

Prediction coming true?

Gil Brandt is showing his age but he still has a lot of wisdom dancing around that old noggin of his.

The former personnel director who helped build two dynasties in Dallas may be 89 years old but he still hosts a show on SiriusXM NFL Radio — often once a week — and type a column weekly for NFL.com.

Last week, Brandt picked 10 players who got off to a slow September but who Brandt expects to pick up steam. One is Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett.

… Against the Pats [on Oct. 3), though, he looked like the dominant Barrett of old, seeming feistier than he had been, producing a big second-quarter sack that helped kill a New England drive. His pressure total through four weeks (11) is a bit off-pace from where he was at this point last season (19), but hopefully for Tampa’s 32nd-ranked pass defense, Barrett can continue trending in the right direction.

So how did Shaq follow up that game in New England while playing the sad Dolphins? He had a quarterback hit, a forced fumble and 1.5 sacks.

So far, Brandt’s eye for talent seems to be paying off. His prediction Shaq will turn things around is a promising prognostication.

Let’s all hope Shaq turns things around because w/o a good pass rush, or secondary will get exposed.
That said, I was reading about the Eagles, and 5 out of 5 of the local Philly Media are picking us to win tonight.

    Trade OJ for Jalen Ramsey

Dear medicated Pete. Trades only work when someone sees value in what you have to offer. Jalen Ramsey is in a different league than OJ Howard. My wife knows this she tried to trade me for Tom Brady. OJ Howard could be traded for a used set of the other OJ’s Isotoners!

I always liked Trufant. I remember coming out of washington hoping the bucs drafted him. Hes not a #1 but i think hes a slight upgrade over cockrell

I feel like Shaq is going to hunt tonight, and he will have two sacks.

I hope tonight’s game plan is reminiscent of the super bowl, chase, attack, smother them on Defense and put up 30+ Points by taking what the Eagles give us on D. Let Tom carve and let the players focus, ball out and put up a W!

My take is Shaq put on weight and lost a little speed. And JPPs injuries have reduced sack pressure from his side allowing opponents to focus more on Shaq. Shaq seems to be gradually getting back up to speed with more sacks and pressures now. So now we need more pressure from the other side of the defense. Tryon does not seem ready yet for full time duty. And the Bucs don’t have anybody to match JPP results when healthy. Until when or if JPP can resume his past performance level the drop off from last year’s sack totals will probably remain. We need JPP healthy!
