Lavonte David Update

October 10th, 2021

Injury news.

UPDATED 4:23 p.m. — Joe had an absolute hollow feeling at halftime despite the Bucs being halfway to a blowout win over the sad Dolphins.

Lavonte David looked like he blew out a knee when he was caught in the wash and undercut by teammate Ndamukong Suh (no, it was not Suh’s fault in any way).

David was prone on the field for a while and punching the ground in frustration. CBS analyst Tony Romo remarked it did not look good.

Though David walked off the field, Joe has seen too many times guys walk off the field and the next time you see them is next season.

Jenna Laine of ESPN has an update and it appears the Bucs dodged a massive bullet.

It’s a very good sign David has an ankle injury over a knee injury. An ankle injury, unless it is broken, you can come back from. A bad knee injury and David would have been done for the year.

Joe just hopes the X-ray equipment in Tampa is not as inferior as it was in Los Angeles, where Rob Gronkowski’s punctured lung and broken ribs were missed.

Joe is crossing his fingers and rubbing his rabbit’s foot. Guessing so too are all Bucs fans.

Get well, Lavonte!

UPDATE: Bruce Arians tells the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game that it appears David has a high ankle sprain and will miss at least one game.

    Like Gronks x-rays???

  2. unbelievable Says:

Lol yes they said Gronks x-rays were negative too….

    Fingers crossed.

  3. Bird Says:

Yah. High ankle sprains can be almost as bad though

Hope he gets back soon cause devin white is lost so far this year
Sorry guys. Love devin but he had a better game today compared to just ok.
I read the article earlier and maybe bowles part to blame but its such a drop off from end of last year.

Lavonte is way better in coverage. By a mile.

Here comes the Tampa 5. 3-3-5.

  5. Mort Says:

“At leafy one game”. Put him on IR. See you week 10 after the bye.

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

That iggles game won’t be easy on short rest. They better bring it on both sides.

  7. Stanglassman Says:

We need to find out the grade on the high ankle sprain. Even a 1 takes awhile. Usually a 4-10 week injury. Hopefully it’s a mild 1 grade sprain.

  8. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Joe – sometimes The crack is so small that you cannot pick up a fracture immediately with an x-ray. As you continue to breathe and move crack shows itself. That they didn’t see a crack on Gronk immediately should not indicate the box training staff missed anything. It’s the way medicine is.

  9. Coburn Says:

If it’s a bad sprain could be out a few weeks.

Don’t think a gr 1 takes that long though. I had a grade 3 and was back to playing b ball with friends a 2-3 weeks later and doing karate tournament and shot put at provincials both 3-4 weeks later

Can’t get into the rabbits foot thing.
Seems it wasn’t so lucky for the original owner!

  11. ocala Says:

It was pretty obvious on replay it was an ankle sprain. Good chance he doesn’t play the next two weeks. I would not mind the Bucs heavily using three safeties in the next two games until LD comes back.

  12. Coburn Says:

Yeah Ocala 3 safeties sounds ideal to me. Not like s struggle against run and if Winfield is back there are 3 good ones

I’ve been pondering–nobody RUNS on us anyhow, what’s the point of keeping 2 MLB’s on the field?

The yahoos on here can go kiss it. This is LVD’s tenth season here. I hope he gets voted into the HOF. He is just as good as Derrick Brooks. The Bucs great defenses are known for how fast their linebackers are. Tryon is following in that pattern, but he is also an edge rusher.

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Get well soon, Captain LVD.

  16. Oneilbuc Says:

David is a hall of famer all day long !!!

  17. mark2001 Says:

Stanglas…that was my thought..at least 4 to 6 weeks. This won’t be minor couple week/ day to day if it is a high ankle sprain, based upon what I’ve read.

  18. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Suh falling on his calves, Lavonte going down backwards the way he did…reminded me of Davin Joseph’s nasty Pattela tendon injury. LVD dodged a bullet.

  19. David Says:

    High ankle sprain.
Those can linger and cause problems like a hamstring if you don’t rest them.
I would have no problem if he rests a few weeks, maybe even three until the bye week. They should beat all those opponents easily anyway.

  20. Lets Roll Says:

    MINTER!!!

I once sprained an ankle and still ran a marathon. It just needs to get warmed up and all is good.

Thats said. I woke the next day and couldn’t walk

Maybe Devin White is not having the kind of season everyone thinks he should be having. Sure, he has miss timed a couple of blitzes and had a quarterback juke him out of a sack last week, but I believe it is how opposing offenses are attacking Tampa more than bad play on White’s part. Everyone is trying to mimic the Cowboys game plan. Get the ball out quick on the edge snd let your skill guys gain 4 or 5 yards and break a tackle every now and then and hit a long gain. Both Devin and Lavonte have done nothing but streak to the sidelines all year from the middle of the field trying to make plays. Teams aren’t even trying to run on the Bucs. That puts a lot of stress on the interior linebackers to try and make plays. Once the Bucs get better at diagnosis and stopping those plays (and they are improving) teams are going to try and run a little more and push the ball down the middle of the field. Our secondary and now Lavonte just have to get healthy. I think there will be another big defensive improvement in the latter half of the season and if so look out. The Bucs would be unstoppable.

  22. E.V. Says:

Bucs could of easily had 7 plus touchdowns especially with 8 minutes left could of scored 65 points for sure if Brady was still in. Don’t feel sorry for other teams just keep hammering them no lead is safe. I remember we played Colt’s about 15 year’s ago and we were winning big in fourth quarter and Manning came back with like 4 touchdowns in 5 minutes. I think we win 14-15 games especially after bye week everyone gets healthy especially on defense and there’s nobody that can stop us!!!!!!!!!

  23. E.V. Says:

Also got to trade or get rid of her lol. O.J. Howard did you see that block it looked like she didn’t want to break a finger nail and Brady was laying on the ground and looked like she didn’t want to pick Brady up. Pathetic blocker!!! I would be embarrassed if I was her and we don’t need her cuz she hasn’t done anything. Try trading her for a safety like Diggs from Dallas there’s a few guys out there we can get. But if gronk was playing we would of scored 70 we missed a field goal and also ran the clock out at the one yard line. Plus in 7 minutes Brady would of thrown another 3 touchdowns or more cuz you can tell Miami was giving up or tired…..

Lakeland Steve – That’s the most intelligent comment on here ! Thank you for actually seeing what’s going on and not just barfing out whatever comes to mind
