Lavonte David Saved The Win

Film doesn’t lie, and it will show anyone watching that Lavonte David made the huge play that saved the Bucs from a likely loss.

The Patriots were driving with a minute to play trailing 19-17. It was 3rd-and-3 at the Bucs’ 38 yard line. Tampa Bay sent six pass rushers at rookie QB Mac Jones, who recognized the blitz and threw to a wide-ass open Jakobi Meyers at the 33 yard line.

But wait! As the ball was released Lavonte David disengaged from his blitz-pickup and leaped to bat down the pass. The next play was Nick Folk’s 56-yard field goal attempt that clanked off the goal post.

Game over.

That’s the play of the game right there by David, even if legions of fans don’t remember it or realize it.

Playmaker Lavonte David. Maybe next game Devin White will step up in crunch time.

Pete is sending Devin White a My Little Pony trinket for good luck.

  2. Coburn Says:

David and Evans are still my favourite Bucs I think. Gholston has been growing on me recently… And has also been here a while. Loved seeing Vea copying his free throw lol

  3. Christopher Schiefen Says:

    Great call, Joe.

  4. Ash Says:

Thank the heavens for David, devin needs to catch that ball thats a pick six and this game is over I hope white can get over this funk he seems to be in and get into that next level

  5. Surfslowson Says:

@Joe My thoughts exactly, if LVD doesn’t make that play, big chance BUCS lose. D-line needs to get there hand up more on these quick throws, they don’t have the time to get to the QB.

  6. PassingThru Says:

Absolutely true, David delivered in the biggest moment.

  7. Leighroy Says:

Good. First LVD play of the year. Better late than never?

  8. Hodad Says:

White could’ve had a huge game, but let Jones play bull fighter to his charging bull. Than he drops an interception. He needs to get better body control. No excuse whiffing on two sacks that should’ve been bunnies.

  9. Miller5252 Says:

Maybe White can show up in a game period. Had a chance with a blown INT, but that was it again. So much for the all pro leap this year, guy has to step it up going forward. I’m a huge White fan and I’ve been pretty disappointed. They said during the game that Arians said he want White to start making plays in the games instead of just making in the paper for talking. Great Job David! Always a stud!!

  10. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

LVD is easily the most consistent Bucs defender. He is never out of position, rarely misses a tackle, and will step up to make a play. Devin White has been a liability out there. It seems he always looks for the splash play, but he hasn’t had any this year yet, so no good to balance out his bad. Devin has a lot to learn from LVD still. Way to go LVD and let’s go Bucs!!

  11. Flyin Dutchman Says:

    Thanks for saying it Joe

  12. Rod Munch Says:

That’s why you send 6, to either get to the QB or knock the ball down.

    Great job by David.

    Now, can he play corner?

  13. unbelievable Says:

This is what I want to see from more of our defensive guys…

Wreak havoc out there! Gets hands up on every play. Make the other team hurt every time they snap the ball. Sick of this soft bs. Refs were also screwing our defense hard

  14. lambchop Says:

    @Ash,

The pass was behind Devin, he got a hand on it but it was clearly behind him. He raced to get in front of the receiver and went a little too far ahead of where the ball went. At least he got in front and didn’t allow a catch. Sometimes things break your way, and sometimes they don’t.

Great point and reminder Joe. Forgot about that.

  17. Doctor Stroud Says:

All week, everybody was talking about Brady and Belicheat, what an amazing rivalry. Not one word was said about how you are going to stop this defense!

Not to mention that the refs blew the call in the first quarter with the forced fumble by the Patriots receiver. This team thrives on momentum and big plays, and that totally took the wind out of the team’s sails.

Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. This guy has been my favorite Buc for 10 years.

  19. Nutterbuccer Says:

Devin white almost had a nice sack and believe he almost had a pic too. Not where he needs to be but looks to be getting back to form.

  20. FrankPillow Says:

    54 is still > 45…by miles

  21. Ryan K Says:

    54 is my FAVORITE BUC

I took off my new Brady jersey and put on my old Lavonte jersey after that play!

  22. Kevin Wayne Says:

A lot of flowers are being thrown at the feet of a defense they allowed a previously pedestrian rookie to play like the next Tom Brady

  23. Buczilla Says:

Great players make great plays. The hof will be meaningless if David doesn’t get in.

  24. Marshall Says:

Forget about the D line or line backers, they always play great. Get fourrnette the hell…out of tampa. He soft and too big to run the ball scared and looking for semi truck lanes to run through. Put Rojo back at his damn spit immediately or we will never have a good run game

  25. Nathanel72@gmail.com Says:

@ Joe …..spot on watched it and thought the same thing ..even Troy said “oh boy…what a play” cause he probably seen his wide ass open too easy FG at the least

  26. Marshall Says:

Brady played like a bum. Over throwing several balls nobody said anything about his performance. Our offense is too deep to play that poorly. Brady got to have everything his way. Stop having favorites and throw the ball to whomever is open . Godwin was open all night but not many targets. Don’t matter who covering Mike or Chris throw the ball instead of being scared of the likes of Ramsey. Can’t be considered great if you pick your fight. To be great you have to defeat the greats. Cowards pick weaker battles

  27. Espo Says:

Who wouldn’t remember or realize that? It was huge!

  28. daniel Da Man Says:

Yes I did see that play. Excellent work ny the big D guy. Love the efforts
