JPP: Respect Is Earned

October 11th, 2021

Details hand injury.

The spirit of the Bucs defense returned yesterday after a two-game absence: Jason Pierre-Paul.

And the veteran defensive end/outside linebacker wasn’t 100 percent.

JPP has been battling a shoulder issue and this morning he confessed he has a broken finger that he said is “split in two pieces.”

So JPP is in pain, he confessed. But you suck it up in the NFL and just deal with it. This is what it takes to win a super bowl.

“I will take the pain,” JPP said. “It just makes it that much more sweeter when you get to the top.”

To get there, JPP said the defense must play better. But he’s not calling out names, he said everyone needs to improve and pick up teammates, and that begins with himself.

And when the Bucs do that, JPP said, the team will earn respect of opponents.

“As a defense, people don’t respect us like they should,” JPP said. “In order for them to do that, we have to go out and prove we’re nothing to be messed with. And I think we haven’t proved that yet.”

In the last two games, the Bucs have held the Belicheats and the sad Dolphins to 17 points each. Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians has said that’s the goal of the defense each week.

Sure, both the Belicheats and the sad Dolphins are not top-shelf teams. When the Bucs have played solid teams, the defense has been roasted.

When the Bucs are able to hold good teams to lower scores, that’s when the defense will be respected by the league.

Devin White needs to stop reading the press clippings and start playing like the next big thing….and if the bucs are going to employ the zone blitz at high percentage and have JPP & JTS go in coverage that blitz needs to get there

Very, very good news. Lavonte David reportedly has a low ankle sprain. There’s a world of difference between a low ankle sprain and a high one. He’ll miss Thursday’s game, but that’s not a big deal.

  3. AMI_Chris Says:

In the Sunday night game, those Bills DBs were plastered to receivers (more often than not). We just don’t see that with our DBs. We need a pass rush.

  4. Robert Says:

that club he had one must be great for batting balls!

looked like something from a pirate movie.

  5. R.O. Says:

Mmmm… Bucs DBs we’re plastered all over Chiefs WRs the last time we played them. No?

  6. Defense Rules Says:

JPP’s health is concerning. Knew about the shoulder injury, but never heard anything about the broken finger (in 2 places no less). Never been a big advocate for the notion that ‘guys have to be able to play when they’re in pain’. Much prefer ‘guys have be able to play BETTER THAN THEIR BACKUP when they’re in pain’. The backup may not be better than the starter when both are 100%, but if the starter’s really hurting, his play-making ability will very often suffer. And that doesn’t help the team.

JTS did reasonably well, for a rookie, in the 2 games that he started for JPP. He got 51 snaps (78%) in the Rams game & 50 snaps (85%) in the Pats game. But yesterday he only got 17 snaps (31%) against the Dolphins, while JPP got 41 snaps (76%). JPP did get 1 Pressure on the day, his first this season. That’s NOT JPP. It seems apparent that he’s hurting & that it’s impacting his performance on the field. He needs to get back to 100% to be valuable to us against the better teams.

JPP is definitely not 100% but if he can tolerate the pain, I want him out there. The defense feeds off of him even when he’s not at his best. Also, I thought he started settling in and played much better as the game progressed. His resume suggests no need to worry about him pulling his weight. Tryon will still get snaps to spell him but we are a better defense with JPP out there even at 65%

  8. SB Says:

I agree with DR if I am reading him right. JTS needs more snaps until JPP is Fully ready to come back

  9. Ash Says:

I respect jpp’s warrior mentality but definitely need jts on more snaps until jpp is healed crazy he played as much as he did in Sunday

  10. firethecannons Says:

It starts with him He was not playing a great game either

  11. SlyPirate Says:

    Why rush JPP back?

JTS had 2 sacks and was developing chemistry with Vea.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

Love JPP’s warrior spirit. Wish we had 20 more like him and Brady. When he plays, Our defensive line just seems to be more fired up.

  13. unbelievable Says:

Funny how were chiting on Sherman for not being a pro-bowler after 6 days back in the league, but JPP gets called a “warrior” for whiffing on tackle after tackle after tackle all day long…

  14. Buccaneers Says:
