“I Don’t Believe They’re Going To Allow Him To Keep Up With Tom Brady”

October 31st, 2021

Football neutered

This quote from a Hall of Famer this morning particularly interested Joe because the guy said “I’ve had a couple of conversations with Jameis.”

The man doing the talking was on NFL Network and his name is Kurt Warner.

Warner, the iconic Rams and Cardinals quarterback (with the Giants job in between) forged a relationship with Jameis when he was losing games for the Bucs. Jameis even attended a religious retreat with Warner.

Warner was saying he doesn’t expect the Saints today to come after the Bucs’ depleted cornerbacks corps in the way some might think.

“I don’t believe they’re going to allow him to keep up with Tom Brady,” Warner said, noting he’s had “a couple of conversations with Jameis.”

The Saints have advised Jameis, per Warner, ‘Hey, we don’t have all the pieces’ on offense, so now you’re a game manager.

Joe can’t imagine a game-manager approach beating the Bucs and Tom Brady. When’s the last time that even happened? Against the Bears nearly 13 months ago?

Joe’s looking for a commanding Bucs victory.

I made the trip to NOLA. Seeing lots of Bucs fans!!

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

Unless the Bucs beat themselves w/ penalties & dropped passes, we should win but methodically (which Brady has the patience to do).

  3. Swampbuc Says:

The Saints defense won’t let Brady keep up with Brady. They will turn Brady into a game manager, their defense is even better than last year. But if we can run the ball as well or better than we did in the playoff game we can win.

  4. THETRUTH Says:

What !!! After week 1 those experts on TV. Were saying Jamie’s for MVP now the tell him he isn’t throwing!! When you are scared to let your QB throw than IN reality you don’t have a QB

  5. Bird Says:

    It comes down to turnovers

We gave up the booty last year during regular season in both games
And they gave it up the ball in the playoffs

Other big difference is brady comfortable in offense and better rum game
Saints not as talented as last year but they are tough to beat in Nola.
Luckily are depleted secondary is going up against their bo name receivers

  6. Francisco Guzman Says:

Defense better show up today. Also getting off to a slow start is not good against this team i feel.

  7. SufferingSince76 Says:

Containing Kamara will go a long way in securing a win.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

Payton let’s him sling it today… he knows what revenge games mean to players… so do his teammates.

Division games are always tough.. especially vs. Saints. Bucs win, but it won’t be easy.

  9. gotbbucs Says:

This game is an opportunity for Devin White to prove whether he’s legit or not. Alvin Kamara can’t be allowed to get loose.

  10. Youngbucs Says:

The don’t have the pieces but against Seattle he tossed bombs that were drop. He has to his credit hit deep shots when they are there. It’s a trust issue everything else is an excuse Payton will let him throw today he doesn’t have a choice.

  11. Natron Says:

It’s time to teach the Payton Saints who reign’s supreme in the NFC south,
and Jameis is going to help us prove it!

  12. Youngbucs Says:

You know what’s funny I just watched the clip of Kurt saying this. And he goes on to show plays and the receivers are open every time.

  13. Bird Says:

    Lavonte in

Gronk and sherman a go but for emergency purposes?

  14. Dew Says:

I see Desean Jackson is being a cancer again. Guys a loser from a character standpoint. Go Bucs. Big game today.

  15. DoooshLaRue Says:

Today’s the day when we all finally learn just how great JayMiss really is.

Today, we find out how much smarter and how much more football acumen the omnipotent and superior Nuthugger Brigade has over us……. the illiterate, racist haters.

It’s a shame that the founder of the Nuthugger Brigade is no longer with us, (RIP ndog) to prove finally, that the daily diatribes in support of the Soiled Messiah were just and that the rest of us were so blinded by our hatred for JayMiss that we refused to recognize true greatness.

Fortunately, lil’ webster has backed, heartily, into the role of Rear Admiral of the NB, and is doing a fine job supporting his hero and his jock.

We just refused to see Jaboo’s talent.
The interceptions and fumbles were merely a sign that he was on his path to NFL greatness.

He was the next Peyton Manning.
He was the next Brett Farve.

    I’m scared.
    How about you?

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Listening to some various Saints podcasts this week, not the boring official ones, but the fan based ones and this is what I took away.

    – They are very excited about getting Mark Ingram back. They think he will give them 20-30 plays to rest Kamara, is a good blocker still and brings ‘leadership’. Personally I think Ingram has looked washed up for a couple of years, but Saints fans seem excited.

    – Overall they seem quite happy with Winston. They say, what is obvious if you watch any film at all, his WR’s are trash and have not been getting open, and when they do get open they’re dropping balls. Calloway is their best WR, but he’d be better off as a #3 WR. Winston has missed some TDs, but he’s getting no help from his receivers at all. My take, from what I’ve watched, it’s really really clear that Payton has told Winston his primary job is to not the turn the ball over, and scoring is secondary. In fairness to Payton, they’re a defensive 4th quarter meltdown against the Giants away from being 5-1.

    – Saints fans like their defense a lot and think it can carry them into the playoffs. I’d agree with them on that.

    – Finally, they all picked the Bucs to win a close game.

@“I don’t believe they’re going to allow him to keep up with Tom Brady,” Warner said, noting he’s had “a couple of conversations with Jameis.”
    —————————
why should they disclose their strategy???
this is talk to talk…. keep your “antennas” up ALL the TIME. Payton already is 10 times better HC then TV 🤡, but on top of being very good and very smart HC, he is a very mean (unkind/unfair) person. He is going to try all his “un traditions” tricks, including trying to hurt players. McVay likes to imitate him, and as you remember, he destroyed us.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Watching RedZone and they skip to all the games, and they showed the Panthers @ Falcons game, and if anyone from Atlanta is reading this, there’s plenty of good seats still available.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

The Bengals being the #1 seed in the AFC is reminding me of when USF was ranked #2 in the nation.

  20. crazyBucs_CL Says:

    JW is NOT the problem.
If they play 100% their capacity, and we play 100% of our capacity, we win at least with 2 TD.
If we play poorly, then comes to coaches.
There we loose big time, and the game become a toss.
    JW is not the problem.
to feel better assume : We got JW today, and they got TB12 as QB.
    How makes you feel?? 😵🥴

  21. Rod Munch Says:

I say this every week, but if you watch him you know it’s true… Michael Pittman Jr looks like a slightly smaller Mike Evans. If you just watch the way he moves, catches the ball, jumps, calls for PI calls, everything, he looks just like Mike Evans.

The only thing I don’t get is Pittman Jr is listed at 6′ 4″, but he looks quite a bit smaller than Evans. Must be the uniforms I guess.

  22. Cainishere Says:

Bucs will win. By the way and Joe remember this post. Bucs will defeat the Colts in the Superbowl. Then the record breaking threepeat season will begin. The coaches need to stay in place for that event. Go Bucs.

  23. Natron Says:

But Jameis is sooooo much better now…… LOL!!!!!!

  24. Bojim Says:

They’ll let him throw a couple long ones.

  25. cover deuce Says:

Mac Jones and the Pats nearly pulled it off so idk why you’re so sure your boy Crab Legs and Sean Payton can’t give it a shot with a raucous superdome crowd behind them.

  26. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Double Team Kamara, only rush 3 or 4 linemen, drop the rest into coverage and disguise coverages. America’s Ride Share Groper will deliver the ball to the Bucs secondary.

  27. BigMacAttack Says:

@GoBucsFan, my wife was in NOLA a few years back at a Bucs game and said there were Bucs fans everywhere at the game and in the French Quarter.
    Go Bucs!!!

  28. Jerry Says:

Saints fans are seeing a glorified version of Jameis. He’s only passing 25 times a game and doing the vast majority to swings and screens. He’s making only safe throws. Sean Payton is no dummy. He knows what Jameis is and is adapting a gameplan to play to his strengths and not put him in bad situations where he needs to be the hero.

Drew Brees was recently asked if this is the same offense when he was there playing…the answer was an awkward pause and then, “well, they are the same plays..” Pretty clear they have tamed down the offensive scheme with Jameis there. Now if the Saints get down a few scores or they worry they can’t keep up with an opponent, maybe they let Jameis take some risks and open it up some. But so far the defense has kept them in games enough that he hasn’t had to make the tough throws he was asked to make while in Tampa. And maybe he can be molded into an efficient game-manager this way.

But here’s the problem…if this is true, than what we see is Jameis’s ceiling. If they take the training wheels off and open up the offense, and he goes back to his 30/30 days…. then we have our answer of what Jameis is. He reached his peak. And the Saints would have to figure out what direction they want to go in the coming years.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

I’m convinced the Winston haters just watch football because they like the commercials. They have the worst and most idiotic ‘hot takes’ and ‘analysis’ that you’ll ever read. I’m certain they spend more time eyeing the male cheerleaders than they spend watching the game.

    Change my mind.

  30. DoooshLaRue Says:

The guy who so cleverly calls himself Rod Munch, uses the word Anywho and refers to himself as a Fancy Man is calling JayMiss haters gay?

    Someone is projecting.
    😀

  31. Rod Munch Says:

Dooodouche – you’re the queen of hot takes, saying that you think Chris Meyers is the best play by play guy on TV, I mean who can top that, and you offered it up about yourself.

  32. Bird Says:

    ^^^

    😂

  33. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Saints under Drew Brees led the NFL in Pass Attempts. With Winston, they are last in the NFL at Pass Attempts. Winston has been turned into basically a game manager. They are riding their defense and Alvin Kamara to win games.
And, as someone pointed out, they would be 5 and 1 if not for a defensive meltdown against the Giants.
They are still a good team, even w/o Brees, and they are at home.
But guess what ? We are a better team, and we will show it today!
    Go Bucs!

  34. Tye Says:

Payton knows he doesn’t have a true QB… Game management is not going to win much games… their defense will get annoyed with this approach before long… Saints could be lucky if the win half their games…
Probably looking forward to 2022 as to who they may can bring in they can trust (Rogers)!

  35. Iamabuc Says:

Watching the Panthers/Falcons game. Boy, this guys can’t catch a ball even if their lifes depended on it. Two teams lees to worry about in our division. Now let’s take care of the Ain’ts.

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

Fortunately, Rod Muncher has enough takes of his own to sink a battleship… thereby rendering everyone else’s moot. Just the way he likes it. A legend in his own Skyway jumping mind.

  37. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Doosh

As always – You are over the target.

    Continue dropping bombs…

  38. DoooshLaRue Says:

$100 for you Munch if you can find the post where I said that.

Put up or shut up d!ckhead!

  39. Cobraboy Says:

@Tye: I suspect the Saint’s would salivate over getting Wilson more than Rodgers.

  40. Redsox/Bucs1 Says:

I don’t doubt this is how coach Sean Payton used his words when talking to Jameis. But what he was really thinking when he was saying it was “I don’t have any trust in you and I’m not going to allow you to throw the game away Jameis. You’re not very good.”

  41. JimmyJack Says:

Im not worried about Winston or the Saints offense. My concern is on their defense…….Thats how they can possibly beat us.

If we can put up big points they dont look like they have the firepower to keep up. The only guy who should really scare anybody is Alvin Kamara……..My eyes will be glued on Devin White. Hes had a slow start. Im winning to wipe the slate clean if he comes up big today.

  42. Cobraboy Says:

The Saints will game plan for one thing” keep it close.

In that regard, they will keep ATM on a short leash and try to grind out the game with solid line play.

This will be a game where 3-and-outs are as valuable as turnovers.

I expect the punters and kickers to earn their pay today.

The difference will be if the Saints can effectively handle the middle of the Bucs D-Line, and if the Bucs O-Line can keep Brady upright.

  43. Defense Rules Says:

Tye … “Payton knows he doesn’t have a true QB… Game management is not going to win much games…”

I remember when folks said pretty much the same thing about the 2000 Ravens (the one that won the Super Bowl). One of the best defenses of all time IMO (only allowed 165 total pts on the season, and that included their offense giving up 2 Pick-6 for 14 pts). Seems like everyone said they didn’t have a true QB either … some guys named Tony Banks & Trent Dilfer. That offense ran more than it passed (for good reason; Banks & Dilfer had only 20 TDs vs 19 INTs). Still, it got the job done.

The Saints defense isn’t as good as the 2000 Ravens, but I’d say that Winston is still better than Banks & Dilfer. Any team with a top offense or defense has to be taken seriously. And the Saints have a very good defense.

  44. JimmyJack Says:

What kind of costume will Jamies be wearing for Halloween? Good, bad or ugly?

  45. Rod Munch Says:

Dooododooshe – You don’t even have $100 and I don’t take food stamps.

  46. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – If we can put up points, then yeah, I wouldn’t worry too much about the Saints trying being able to keep up.

What I’d worry about is the Saints playing keep away and their defense doing what they always do, just holding and dragging down the WRs on every play, causing one or two turnovers. Then on offense they use Kamara on pretty much every other play, a run, a short pass, a run, a short pass, deep shoot to Kamala, repeat. Calloway is their top guy and is a decent #3 WR. T. Smith, their #2 WR, is pretty awful. They also drug up from the dead Kevin White, who is only in the league because he was once a high draft pick, and I think Kenny Stills is there too – and Kenny Still was last a decent #3 WR about 4 years ago.

I will be shocked if the Saints don’t trade for a WR, bu they’re also in ‘cap hell’ so I’m not sure how many options they have. Listening to the Saints bloggers they seem to think Brandin Cooks will be heading to them before the trading deadline. Others are calling for OBJ. I don’t know how they afford either.

  47. Youngbucs Says:

All this jameis talk and oneilbucs has been mia for over a week. I hope he is ok but he’s a front runner so he’ll pop up if saints win.

  48. Tye Says:

Defense Rules.. we both know that offseason after winning a Super Bowl they cut Dilfer… They knew he wasn’t why they won…

Look at the teams and qbs the Saints defense has played… Qbs such as Daniel Jones; Tyler Heinicke; Mac Jones; Geno Smith; Sam Darnold have scored on this defense…. Their defense hasn’t impressed since week 1… bringing up 2000 Ravens compared to an unproved Saints is a bit pre-mature!

  49. Youngbucs Says:

Defense Rules pass that smoke bro puff puff pass.

  50. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch thanks for the breakdown of the Saints roster and telling me about their CAP situation and letting me know what their fans are talking about.

No go tell somdbody who cares. You got the wrong team for this site dude.

No need to say anything. You’ve already said it and proved yourself wrong. I’ll just leave that there for your viewing pleasure.

  53. Rod Munch Says:

    JimmyJack – info overload sweetie?

  54. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs we are going to win this game we have the better team all around . This game is not a big deal to me like it is to you . Your hate for Jamies is driving you crazy!! We are winning another superbowl this year Lil bro that’s what I care about . I hope nothing but the best for Jamies until he plays the bucs.

  55. Buc and roll Says:

Can’t you say the same about Payton and the saints in the playoffs?

  62. Oneilbuc Says:

Bucfan951. Sean Payton won a superbowl but tell me this what would BA record be with that same saints team and what will be Sean Payton record with the bucs?? BA would be 0 and 8 with the saints roster. If Sean Payton make the playoffs he deserve to be coach of the year and that just the truth !!

  63. Bucsfan951 Says:

    O’Neil:

BA won a super bowl too. What’s your point?

And your second “point” is literally your take and not actual. It’s your opinion and that isn’t worth spit to me or the world.

“ If Sean Payton make the playoffs he deserve to be coach of the year and that just the truth !!”
