Carlton Davis On Injured Reserve

October 7th, 2021

Out for awhile.

The hits keep coming for the beat up Bucs cornerback corps.

The Bucs announced today the team has placed starting corner Carlton Davis on the injured reserve list. What does that mean?

This means Davis will miss at least the next three games. Davis suffered a quad injury Sunday night in the win over the Patriots.

So now the Bucs starting corners are a 33-year old guy who has a total of one week of practice all season (Richard Sherman) and a bottle of cologne (Pierre Desir).

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Stop worrying, Joe. These guys are professionals.

  4. crazybucs_CL Says:

did these guys do any strength training ?? every week we losing one or more. Gronk injury was different…it was more “Sean Payton take off game” type, but the rest … i don’t know, are we too soft???

  5. Pelbuc Says:

The “Gravediggers” are going to bury the Bucs super bowl dreams. Licht needs to make a move before trade deadline.

  6. Buc4evr Says:

Is Dean playing this Sunday? Any word on Winfield?

  7. Joe in Michigan Says:

Let’s hope the bottle of cologne smells decent.

  8. Buc4evr Says:

Maybe the Bucs need to clear the roster to bring in another vet. Quinton Dunbar?

  9. Joe Says:

Is Dean playing this Sunday? Any word on Winfield?

Winfield is unlikely to play. Dunno about Jamel Dean. Arians will speak tomorrow and should get a better idea about Dean.

People (including Joe) sweating over Jamel Dean may not play. Strange times we live in

  10. ocala Says:

Looks like Dean will play but Winfield wont.

  11. Robert Says:

we be good as long as JD suits up and the Sherminator held his own in NE

  12. mark2001 Says:

Pelbuc. I was thinking about that yesterday. Instead of “gravediggers” it seems they should be named the “walking wounded”.

  13. adam from ny Says:

everyone will be back after the bye…

    some a but sooner…

    should be okay

  14. PassingThru Says:

Well we’re about 4 games and 3 1/2 weeks from the trade deadline. I expect a trade or two for CBs.

  15. Posey99 Says:

I don’t wish anyone to get hurt, but its better we have these injuries now then in the playoffs.

  16. Posey99 Says:

Also gets the backups some valuable reps in case someone goes down late in the season.

  17. Rayjay1122 Says:

At least the bottle of cologne did not noticeably stink.

  18. Buc king Says:

Massive miss on not trading for gilmore

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    These aren’t season-ending injuries…..

Our offense is far better off than our defense…..as long as we have our Oline….Brady, RBs, WRs & TEs….we should be able to score greatly….

  20. dean giustiniani Says:

We are the 49ers of last year. Decimated. We may make the playoffs by the grace of TB12 if we’re lucky.

  21. Drunkinybor Says:

A bottle of cologne!!! I literally spit out my drink as I read that! That’s is classic. Destiny, quality, moonlight the smell of pierre Deser

  23. IrishMist Says:

Hopefully he sticks to his man like department store cologne.

  24. Joe Says:

Massive miss on not trading for gilmore

    Can’t “miss@ on something you can’t afford.

  25. Steven007 Says:

Desir was probably one practice away from having a pick six on Sunday. He also has decent ball skills with eight interceptions and over 40 pass deflections. Hopefully with another week of practice he’ll be serviceable and hopefully more than.

  26. DaBux Says:

We’re going to need more old guys.

  27. Buczilla Says:

Oh boy, I know the dolphins are terrible, but our corner situation will probably make this a tight game regardless.

  28. Dew Says:

Rashard Robinson can play if he can stay out of trouble. He’s probably been suspended more than AB in the past including the first 2 games this season.

  29. BA4President Says:

Funny how everyone talked so much crap about Dean. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone!

  30. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Cmon man. Bottle of cologne? You’re talking about a human being.

  31. BerrickDrooks Says:

Bottle of cologne is better than a bag of sheit

  32. Smashsquatch Says:

As long as we are healthy in January, I like our chances. The offense can carry this squad in the meantime. And Bowles need not be afraid to go after opposing quarterbacks. I’d rather see an aggressive defense go down swinging than watch them get gassed giving up 10+ play drives that end in TDS anyways. I’d dare teams into a shootout knowing our defense will eventually make the big play if Bowles allows them to be aggressive enough. The schedule:

    Miami
    @ Philadelphia (N)
    Chicago
    @ New Orleans
    Bye
    @ Washington
    NY Giants (N)
    @ Indianapolis
    @ Atlanta
    Buffalo
    New Orleans (N)
    @ Carolina
    @ NY Jets
    Carolina

  33. BringBucsBack Says:

These (or any) guys should be able to execute Bowles’ version of Mike Smith’s eight-yards-off-the-ball, never-challenge-a-pass, chase-&-tackle defensive scheme just fine!

  34. Jerry Says:

Other than Bernard and Gronk, the Bucs are healthy on offense. So there is no excuse to not put up some points on Miami. Miami’s offense is bad. Our injuries on defense will make them look decent but we should easily outscore them unless the offense decides to give the game away. The past 3 weeks, the Bills put up 35 on them, the Raiders scored 31, and the Colts 27. No excuse for us not to drop 30 on them.

  35. Adrnagy Says:

Davis & bunting will come back week 13.

Rest dean , gronk, jpp. one more week.

Spray that cologne all over the secondary!

  36. You gotta be crazy Says:

I agree… They need to start bumping off the line… Just a little bit can make the difference on a pass rush or not

  37. FrankPillow Says:

The cure is a persistently ferocious pass rush. Send 45 all day.

  38. Marine Buc Says:

Jarrod Wilson was just cut by the Jets. He isn’t great but he has played in 78 games in the past 6 seasons. Has 193 tackles, 3 Ints, 9 pass break ups and two forced fumbles…

Not a bad resume… But he was just cut from both the Jags and Jets recently.

  39. Marine Buc Says:

Plus he has played special teams everywhere he has been…

  40. Defense Rules Says:

When healthy, our Secondary starters typically play very close to 100% of the defensive snaps. When you look at the Patriots game however, it was anything but typical for our Secondary guys.

o Davis: 32 snaps (54%) then outtathere (injured) … targeted 1 time; 0 completions with 1 solo tackle (0 assists).
    o Sherman: 58 snaps (98%) … targeted 9 times; 9 completions with 7 solo tackles (0 assists).
    o Cockrell: 35 snaps (59%) … targeted 2 times; 0 completions with 2 solo tackle (1 assist).
    o Desir: 26 snaps (44%) … targeted 3 times; 3 completions with 2 solo tackles (0 assists).
o Neither Delaney nor Robinson logged any defensive snaps (S/Ts only)

Looks like the Patriots were intentionally staying away from Davis (until he got injured) and were picking on Sherman (who had all of 1 practice?) and Desir when he came in to replace Davis (up from the PS?). Not hard to tell what their marching orders were: keep everything in front of you; don’t get beat deep.

In reality Bowles didn’t have any choice IMO, and the same will apply against Miami for the most part. Once the field compresses though, both of them can be more aggressive. Personally doubt however that we’ll see much bumping off the line with either Sherman or Desir (at least for these first few games).

  41. Joe Says:

    Drunkinybor:

    🙂

  42. ClwJB Says:

Even with all the injured- the only team left on the schedule with real teeth is the Bills

This might be a 15-2 season regardless

  43. Bobby M. Says:

Every team will likely go through some degree of injuries…..ours are early in the season and not season ending. We’re at a bit of a soft spot in the schedule…..if offense plays to potential, should be able to carry us through until some of these guys bounce back. Chiefs lost 2 offensive linemen in the last few weeks of a SB season…..that’s life in the NFL. You need a little luck on your side.

  44. DoooshLaRue Says:

If Pierre Desir is a cologne than Durable Donnie is a half-used stick of Axe deodorant.

  45. Chrizzzbucfan Says:

Hate that we missed on Gillmore, wouldn’t help us immediately anyway, but still. The schedule being soft helps too. I would really like to see us go aggressively after X. Rhodes or X.Woods ( x factors pun intended) or any CB that will help NOW , I.e., the sherminator ( I love that name).

  46. Don’t make a scene 35 Says:

    Top 3 Buc corners
    24 35 23
    When their all up
    Sherman only helps
43 and great safety work back there!
Don’t be discounting the home team yall
    Go Bucs

  47. August 1976 Buc Says:

Well on to this weeks version of “Shootout by the Bay”

They just are not physically able to competitive defensively right now.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  48. JGhotier Says:

Losing the guy who leads all DB’s in passes defenses in the entire NFL since 2019 (and by a pretty wide margin) hurts no matter how you slice it. CDIII doesn’t get enough credit for his play. Time we start putting some respect on this guy’s name.

  49. Don’t make a scene 35 Says:

    JGhotier
Agreed CD getting better every year
Not a stat geek here but I’m curious about
Pass break ups since 2019 as a % snaps played
Pretty sure the numbers will say that Dean holding his own

  50. Don’t make a scene 35 Says:

Got to squeeze that ball when it hits you in the hands though
