Bucs Cut 2020 Sixth-Round Pick

October 2nd, 2021

Khalil Davis

Ouch!

The Bucs are banged up significantly, but not at defensive tackle. So it seems they cut one to make room for other players.

This evening the Tampa Bay waived defensive lineman Khalil Davis, their 2020 sixth-round pick out of Nebraska. Davis had flashed a some promise last season but didn’t have the greatest 2021 preseason. Veteran Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers had said Davis was the most explosive player on the D-line.

Joe’s interested to see if Davis gets claimed on waivers, or if he’s back with the Bucs next week.

Rough weekend for the young dude.

The Buds officially bumped practice squad veteran cornerback Pierre Desir to the active roster and promoted tight end Codey McElroy, sort of matching the loss of starters Jamel Dean and Rob Gronkowski to injury.

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

We need to cut this year’s 2nd rounder

  2. Jerry Says:

We are only 3 games in and injuries are starting to really pile up. And no end in sight. Most of these injuries will take a month or more to heal.

  3. Hater Hater Says:

What a stupid take, Pete! Even if Trask doesn’t pan out, what do we benefit
from cutting him now. Arians likes to carry 3 qb’s regardless.

  4. Jeff Says:

Pats 24 Bucs 21 Bucs drop to 2-2.

  5. ModHairKen Says:

Medicated Pete, go cheer for the Saints or Packers. You’ve earned it.

  6. CarolinaBuc82 Says:

He will be back, he needs another year in the gym and he could crack the rotation

  7. DaBux Says:

If Davis was so promising his play would have out promised Nelson. Next man up.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

Don’t understand how the Bucs are carrying 55 players on their current roster after cutting Davis (roster includes Gronk & Dean but not SMB or Scotty, both on the Injured list). Some new 2021 rule?

  9. Medicated Pete Says:

    @ModHairKen

You’ll be thanking Pete in January that the Saints beat the Packers. Pete sees the future

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

    ModHairKen: Exactly!

Why exactly would anyone hate on a late 2nd Round draft pick that’s a developmental QB (you say clipboard holder, I say developmental) that has a chance to learn from one of the greatest QB’s of all time? Because you hate U of Florida players?
If you wanted a CB instead, the closest Corner drafted to Trask was Aaron Robinson. Robinson hasn’t played in a game for the NY Giants this year. The NY Giants are 0-3, he hasn’t seen the field, and he’s not on their injury report. What is it that you wanted? If you can’t name a specific player, then it means you didn’t know what you wanted, you just want to complain about it.

  11. Joe in Michigan Says:

Khalil Davis is a good athlete and is explosive, had a great 40 time for his size, but has 31 1/2” arms, short arms for a D-Lineman. Maybe this had something to do with him being cut, or it could’ve been something else.

  12. D-Rome Says:

The Buds officially bumped practice squad veteran….

    ¿Que?

  13. Tim in PSL Says:

Med Pete: Just stop with the referring to yourself in the third person garbage. It’s already dumb enough that Joe(s) do it, but it’s their site. It’s not just dumb that you do it, it also makes you look like a copycat.

  14. Jason Says:

LoL. 4 commenters responded to Pete. Well played Pete. Well played.

  15. rrsrq Says:

So the Bucs have no pass rush, McClendon is a vet who literally has minimum impact and we don’t even see if the kid can get pressure if rushing next to VV

  16. yucboy Says:

Trask is better than any QB coming out in the 2022 draft

  17. Ocala Says:

    That is a surprise.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

TBBF occasionally refers to himself in the 3rd person because TBBF takes his lead from Joe.
Now, if i was as irritating as Medicated Pete, it would probably be annoying.

  19. Nutterbuccer Says:

Not one injury we have is season ending. We will be just fine. Rather have the injuries happen now and be healthy thr second half of the season.

  20. Wesley Says:

Good grief proof read much Joe?

  21. Flyin Dutchman Says:

    Pete is right!

  22. An Erection for Sacks Says:

    This Bud’s for you.😑

  23. Sparky Says:

    @Defense Rules

Yes, its a Covid rule tweak, on gameday you can promote 2 practice squad players to the active roster for a total of 55 players.

  24. Buxszntkt Says:

    Pete is a visionary

  25. Buxszntkt Says:

I think it’s a little bit of weed mixed with some hard liquor !

  26. The kid Says:

Please do not let us lose in New England.
    I don’t think Tommy let’s it happen

  27. Bucs Win Says:

Pete is lame. I think that D bag is really El Bucco Estupido rebranding his dumb a$$ trolling takes without the unnecessary punctuation. I’m pretty sure he’ll mess up and drop one of those idiotic Old Stale Biscuit lines soon. What a tool. That being said, Trask was a wasted pick.

  28. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Khalil Davis probably was not starter material in the Bucs D scheme, but he was a promising second stringer. I guess the Bucs wanted to go with bigger and heaver DTs.

My guess, Licht and co will be drafting a few large/heavy DTs and CBs next NFL draft.

  29. mark2001 Says:

Pete does have mystical powers. He can read polyps. It just requires him to keep putting his head up folks……

  30. Joe in Michigan Says:

Bucs Win: Realisto annoyed people by thinking he knew everything and could see into the future: Brady and Gronk are washed up, so and so was a wasted pick, etc. My question is: How are you any different than him, saying that Trask is a “wasted pick”?

  31. geno711 Says:

    Love this Realisto quote

    @miller5252
And that is the “real” problem!!!!!!!!! There is no more time for ole stale biscuit!!!!!!! The so called “win now” coach!!!!! The “real” fans are sick and tired of the bruce arrogance BS reload!!!!!!!!! And the clock is ticking on the old cheating goat as well!!!!! This is not a “they just need another year in the system” by excuse that will fly anymore!!!!!!!!! People are going to get canned at the end of the year!!!!!!!!!!! And rightfully so!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coaches and GM will be held “ACCOUNTABLE”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Hodad Says:

It’s amazing fans are blaming all our woes on Trask. If we would’ve taken a corner with that pick all our troubles would be over. What clowns.

  33. unbelievable Says:

Haha it is pretty funny that rhealist straight disappeared as soon as we started winning consistently.

Or more likely, he just changed to a new name, because that’s what losers do.

The weird thing is, there was a time where he actually was a real Bucs fan. Guess he wasn’t strong enough to make it through the lost decade.

  34. Lakelandsteve Says:

Every team has injuries, we just need to weather the storm and we will be ok. Pete, are you always a couple cards short of a full deck or just when you are medicated. We aren’t cutting Trask this year or next so that’s really a moot point. As far as cutting Davis, if he was going to be at least a good backup he would have shown it by now. And Nelson and Davis play different positions to whomever was complaining about us cutting Davis in front of Nelson. Even if we drop this one today, we are still in the hunt for the division. I think this team will turn things around, if not today then in the near future. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

  35. Joe in Michigan Says:

Geno711: Realisto’s “hot take” didn’t age well. Hahaha
