“Better” Tom Brady

October 11th, 2021

It’s hard to believe a 44-year-old dude is actually a better quarterback than his younger (?) self. But a long-time NFL beat guy is going there.

Clark Judge of SI.com, in writing his NFL “Judgements” column for Week 5, is of the mind the Bucs’ senior citizen is actually a better quarterback this season.

Tom Brady isn’t getting older. He’s getting better. Look what the guy’s done this season: Thrown for 15 touchdowns, including a season-best five Sunday when he produced 411 yards and a season-best 144.4 rating. It marked the ninth time in Brady’s career he’s thrown five or more TDs. Four of them came after his 40th birthday. Oh, yeah, he also set a franchise record by throwing 203 passes without an interception.

And that new Bucs franchise record of Brady’s 203 throws without a pick? That beats Brady’s Bucs’ record of 199 set last year.

Joe will add to the contention that Brady is better: The last two games he has kept the ball and run for key first downs.

At 44.

And supposedly immobile.

Yes, the nimble Brady did that.

Man, Joe is wondering what sort of deal Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht made with the devil to land Brady?

I’ll say the same thing as I said in here 8 or so weeks into last season.

It’s fun having Tom Brady as a Buc.

If only for a little while.

    Go Bucs…Go Brady!!!

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Brady is on pace to rush for a career high 122 yards.

You didn’t see Vinny doing that at 44-years old.

  3. Lets Roll Says:

So Brady out rushed all ball carriers for the opposition the last two weeks?

When is the last time any QB has done that, let alone Brady?

  4. Lets Roll Says:

The only bad thing, he is hurting his TDs per Rush average.

This is not a comment on anything, just an interesting thing I noticed on the NFL QB rating listing… These two are back to back.

    Brady… 7.9 yards per attempt, 66% comp, 15 TDs, 2 INTs, 108.5 rating, 36 yards rushing, 1 TD

    Winston…. 7.7 yards per attempt, 60% comp, 12 TDs, 3 INTs, 108.1 rating, 86 yards rushing, 1 TD

Brady has 1767 yards, Winston is only at 892, which makes the fact the TDs and INTs are comparable interesting. Again, not a comment, but if you like stats, this is something.

winston traditionally always had about 4 – 5 really bad games a season, where you could just say we lost because of him…

payton is keeping him under wraps and trying to limit those bad games….

i think if i’m correct he had one this season already…and if payton is lucky he can hold jameis to just 2 more for the season….say approximately one every five games…

so with the clamps on maybe he will be able to keep one or two bad games from happening…i’d be surprised if jameis doesn’t have at least 3 bad games out of 17…

it’ll be interesting to see how the jameis experiment goes over a full 17…

The big thing to me is Brady doesn’t play like an old QB.

When Vinny came into town with the Panthers and was 44-years old, it looked like a guy who could barely move back there, and he just looked really stiff. He still had a cannon of an arm, but it reminded me of the old guy in the family who is 60 and can still throw 50-yard bombs in the backyard, but otherwise can’t move.

Also watching Steve DeBerg, he always looked old, but by the time he was in his 40s, he looked ancient.

Warren Moon didn’t look as stiff as DeBerg or Vinny, but still he played like an old QB.

Brady looks and plays like Brady always has. If you changed the uniforms and showed someone today’s footage, they’d have no idea if it was 2006 or today.

It’s starting to become impossible to believe Brady couldn’t play at least 5 more years. Is there anything so far that makes you believe he’s about to fall off a cliff physically?

The run game is giving TB12 the 1 on 1 matchups he likes

  13. bucschamps Says:

why didn’t we run that much vs. Rams?

    We got behind & panicked

I think Tom and the bucs broke the chiefs. They were never the same after SB loss. Dynasty slayer!

  16. Youngbucs Says:

He’s washed y’all think a old QB gonna help this team. BA is running this team into the ground. Brady is gonna get killed this offense not gonna be better with Brady. Did I get all of that right oneilbucs? Now go ahead and respond with it’s not same team blah blah blah. You’re looking more foolish by the day months and years!!!

  17. Youngbucs Says:

Brady is smashing Bucs records so fast it’s crazy lol you mad bro.

  18. ModHairKen Says:

Wait. Jameis didn’t have the franchise record at most throws without a pick?

  19. LVMYBUCS Says:

Dude is running how fun is that to watch

  20. FrancoColumbo Says:

Defensive Backs… the only concern, we have

  21. Mr Bean Says:

I don’t see a decline in Brady at all. The other thing about him is he always finds a way to win – you can take away his top receivers and he will still make it work and be in the game with whoever he has to work with. He’s done that on a number of teams in NE. Now, with the weapons he has, and no decline in playing ability – let the good times roll.

  22. Ron Says:

    Ron from Boston here.

It was a whole pile of fun watching Brady play for the home team for 20 years .

It was just awesome watching this Hall of Fame career.

ENJOY IT. SAVOR IT. Have fun, that’s what life is about.
