A “Sneak” Peek?

October 2nd, 2021

Ke’Shawn Vaughn.

The official word that running back Giovani Bernard won’t play tomorrow had Joe thinking one thing.

“Free Sneak!”

The man knows as “Sneak” is second-year Bucs backup running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn. He’s not good on special teams and is stuck on the depth chart behind Ronald Jones, Lombardi Lenny Fournette and Bernard. So Vauhn doesn’t get the football.

In what was one of the more compelling takes of the 2021 season, Fournette explained how badly he feels for Sneak.

Joe suspects Vaughn can be a competant-or-better rusher in the NFL if given the chance. And he’s certainly a more polished pass catcher than Jones.

With Bernard out, there’s certainly a chance Vaughn will get his first shot on offense this season on Sunday night against New England.

Bucco Bruce Arians implied this week that Bernard being down will just mean more work for Fournette and Jones. But Joe’s holding out hope that Vaughn gets a little work.

It’ll be nice to see what he can do and maybe get him a little confidence. It’s a long season and the Bucs may need him eventually.

This is no time to give Vaughn yet another chance for a turnover.

  2. Marine Buc Says:

They call him “Sneak” because after he fumbles he hides on the bench… lol.

JK – I hope “Sneak” gets an opportunity to show us what he’s got… I hope he can get schwifty with it.

    Gp Bucs!!!

Joe would trade Jones to Raiders for Peyton Barber.

  4. Tackleblockwin Says:

I agree Joe. I think he could be a competent back too. But imo the only way players really have a chance to improve is by playing in real games and getting experience on game day. You can’t learn properly sitting on the bench.

  5. Mike C Says:

Hopefully he gets schwifty on the Pat’s and not all over himself.

  6. Beeej Says:

Vaughn had ONE fumble last year, (receiving a poorly advised pass over the middle) and he was probably unconscious when it happened

Hoping we don’t need him…..or, we have such a lead we use him off the bench to pound the rock in the 4th Qtr……..

  8. Marine Buc Says:

    @ beej

He only had 24 carries… Plus he fumbled twice in one preseason game a few weeks ago.

    I calls em like I sees em…

We haven’t had a consistently good runner since Muscle Hampster was in his prime. We know what we have with Jones and Fournette. They’ll have flashes of brilliance followed by prolonged periods of a$$ production. Give Sneak a shot!

  10. Cchead Says:

Not sure what you are watching, but Vaughn has looked like crap as a receiver and not shown much as a runner.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Just come out in shotgun, 5 wide, and don’t bother running the ball all game.

  12. Bojim Says:

Play him for a while. Let him get into the game before you sit him down immediately. 🙄

“Has better hands the Ronald jones”

I like Vaughn, but didn’t he fumble 2 of the maybe 10 times he got the ball last season? And again a few times this year in preseason?

  14. Wild Bill Says:

Bernard has not had many touches either. 4 net has been catching swing passes pretty well.

  15. Brad Says:

Would love to see it. He has natural hands. Doesn’t bobble the ball. Could’ve had a productive 2nd half last year before Brady almost killed him.

Jason has done a great job the last couple of years, but he’s failed miserably at finding a star running back in the draft. Rojo needs to go and Vaughn shouldn’t even be in the NFL. Maybe in 2022 RB will finally be a priority for Licht in the Draft. I like Trask a lot, but weren’t there any good RB’s on the board at the time. How many times have you rewatched a run play and Rojo runs into traffic because he doesn’t have the vision or patience to find the hole as it opens. I remember when they sold us the BS that Jameis was super intelligent, football smart. He’s a complete buffoon. Rojo is a close second.

Haven’t we seen what he can do already???
