Your NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

September 22nd, 2021

Congratulations, Mike Edwards!

It’s not every day that a guy coming off the bench hauls in a major award.

But it’s hard to argue with Bucs safety Mike Edwards getting the NFC Defensive Player Of The Week honor after two critical pick-6 interceptions against the Falcons on Sunday. That’s a rare feat, and the fist interception was a thing of beauty.

Pretty wild that the Bucs have two 2019 third round picks, Edwards and Jamel Dean, making major contributions in their Super Bowl-winning secondary. And people wonder why Joe calls the Bucs’ home turf The Licht House.

Yeah! Let’s gooooooooo! Hopefully we can keep this streak of player of the week going as well as the win streak. Tough test for us, but shoot, we keep the three musketeers AWJr, Mike Edwards, and Whitehead out there, we got a decent shot.

Gadzooks! We needed those impact plays on defense

Yes, a β€œfist” interception is quite rare.

    Ouch

Love that Mike Edwards is finally getting some of the recognition that he deserves. Looks like Todd Bowles is using him more & more this year, both at Safety and CB (nickel I guess).

Noticed elsewhere that 2 Pick-6 in same game is quite rare (small club of 27 dating back to the 60’s). Two Bucs have done it: Ronde Barber in 2006 against the Eagles (we won 23-21 so I guess it was basically Ronde vs the Eagles) and Dwight Smith (in our 2002 Super Bowl). Nice company to be in Mike.

    well deserved.

I think other teams need to step back when calling plays. I called the 1st int this week and have many times before. Teams start to get all throw and sling it everywhere………and you can just see an INT coming. Usually after TB and crew run down the field and score and give the D some juice. This D is soft when on its heels, but real hunters when the smell the kill.

Good Job for Mike Edwards and the defense. We need more plays like that next week. GO BUCS !!!

  7. mark2001 Says:

How can you keep this guy off the field?

  8. mark2001 Says:

Why would you want to keep this guy off the field?

  9. mark2001 Says:

We need to find more ways to get him on the field. 😁

  10. Winny Testaverde Says:

All this guy does is make big plays ( vs Chris Carter catching td passes )….

How about Edwards on Cooper Kupp?

defense rules that eagles game was the game the bucs won with a 62 yard field goal. I was there with a friend and a girl i was dating at the time. She was an eagles fan. sucked for her

  14. Brandon Says:

I predicted before training camp that he would be a starter this year. I love all three of our safeties but Edwards is the one true ballhawk. He should be the starter at FS, no questions asked.

  15. Chuck T Says:

Edwards joining the likes of Ronde Barber. You love to see it.

  16. SlyPirate Says:

I feel like this award will go to someone playing against Atlanta most weeks.

That first pick could of went just as easy as a reception Edwards took it away πŸ‘
