Richard Sherman Visiting Tampa Bay

September 28th, 2021

Pitstop at One Buc Palace.

It seems Richard Sherman is making a visit to Tampa today. And it isn’t to have a plate of Arroz con Pollo at La Teresita.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports Sherman is flying into Tampa today to work out for the Bucs.

Per Pelissero, the Bucs intend to persuade Sherman to put pen to paper and give the Bucs his John Hancock on a contract before he walks out of the building.

Joe doesn’t know what this means in the big picture as far as the long-term diagnoses of corners Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean, both with injuries but unknown return dates.

But it also demonstrates the Bucs know they need to repair things right now.

  1. Robert Says:

not a big fan of him……lost a step, but we’re in a bind. get it done.

  2. Ed Says:

Hopefully he can run at least a 4.6 40 time

  3. VSyl Says:

As I previously said, I hate this guy, but the last game changed my mind, if he still can play well, meybe we need him…

  4. Steven007 Says:

If we sign him I wonder if it will result in a slight change to our coverage philosophy. Particularly against younger quarterbacks, a veteran getting a solid jam on a receiver at the line of scrimmage will give us at least another half second to get to the quarterback. From what I’ve seen already that may be all we need. Of course our younger guys can also jam, but I’m sure a savvy veteran like Sherman can show them how to do that with maybe a slight misdirect to gain even more time.

  5. Guadalajara, Mexico Fan Says:

My thought is that Tom Brady needs to talk to him about to be a team member and to keep his Alfa personality out of the team. He may create conflicts in the locker room. He needs to be aware that all the Stars that this team has are working very hard for the team, not for themselves.

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

This is nice and all, we need corners. HOWEVER, even Richard Sherman will get exposed without a pass-rush.

  7. crazyBucs_CL Says:

perfect situation for Sherman to make some big $$$.
our crappy coaching, HC DC, put us and the organization in this position…
    how you can trust them!?
hope we get him, and one more….

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t like Sherman. But I do not like Antonio Brown either. Straight up? We need both. This defense is not playing well. It needs a shot of hard hitting and get up. Sherman has both. Pay the Man!

  9. Medicated Pete Says:

Give him a breathalyzer as soon as he gets off the plane

  10. Dlavid Says:

Man this sucks ! But you gotta do something …. the secondary is getting lit up like a Roman candle ! Not a fan of Sherman but definitely a fan of winning ! Get the job done Jason !

  11. Medicated Pete Says:

We just need a guy who can play Press-Man

  12. August 1976 Buc Says:

    Get this done J Licht,
JL Hey Richard we have TB12 on the line, he wants to talk with you.

TB 12 “Hey Rich you want to win a Super Bowl”

    AFTER

JL “Ok Just sign right here……”

  13. Aceofaerospace Says:

“Crappy coaching, HC and DC”? Seriously. Wow!

  14. Gofortheface30 Says:

Don’t give a f’ing f about his 40 guys, you’re missing the forest through the trees. Jamel Dean can fly and where does that get him, except for being an overall liability. Sherman is SMART and will be in the RIGHT SPOT EVERY-TIME when playing zone. Sign him today.

  15. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

If he is better than what we have available right now at CB and can afford him, it’s a yes for me.

  16. PassingThru Says:

Why do people keep thinking about Richard Sherman being toxic? He is a fiery competitor and smart. I’m worried about his speed and quickness, but if he passes the muster on those attributes then sign him.

The Bucs are currently playing JAGs at the corners. Do you guys realize that Dee Delaney has only played 4 snaps on defense his entire career?

  17. PassingThru Says:

    *had (wrong auxiliary verb)

  18. Todd Says:

Giselle already put a mint on the pillow in the Guest Bedroom Suite. Keeping the lights on for Richie.

  19. PSL Bob Says:

After Sunday’s game, it’s obvious we need help. Even though he’s not what he once was, hopefully he can be as good once as he ever was (Toby Keith reference). At the very least, hopefully he will convey some of his knowledge and experience of the position to the young backups.

  20. Bucfan81 Says:

Not a fan of this move to be honest. If this was R. Sherman from 5 years ago with Seattle I would be all for it. He is injury prone now and has legal trouble. This is how bad are CB position is now. Jason needs to take some of the blame with this as we have not had any CB depth for years here. Everything has been spent on the offense.

  21. SlyPirate Says:

Can RS can plan physically/mentally? He’s older and has really slowed down.

  22. Kalind Says:

Sign him. Then go sign Damrious Randall. Then trade for Jamie Collins.

  23. Steven007 Says:

Not worried about his speed. At its best he was only average speed wise. It’s all about savvy for him. Plus I think with him in there and his reputation, that will give a jolt of energy to the rest of the secondary.

  24. polkfan Says:

make the trade for gilmore and let’s go win another this ain’t it

  25. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

They do not need richard sherman they need to trade for a legit functional NFL CB that are available as was the corner the panthers got the other day. Licht go do your job and shake the trees of some teams that have ZERO chance of making the playoffs. the bucs can afford to trade away a TE, a WR, or a RB as of today go do it

  26. Casual Observer Says:

Some good comments here. He may be a terrific and timely addition. I have had my doubts, as with AB. I was clearly wrong there and hope my doubts here are unfounded. As some have said, a long talk with TB is mandatory. Hope it all works out.

  27. lambeau Says:

I’m getting to understand BA-speak. When he says Dee Delaney did great, read:
“Jason, help! Were the f— is Sherman!?”

  28. Stat guy Says:

I was trade for Xavier Rhodes instead. Wouldn’t cost much. He is on a 1 year deal and they are 0-3 and makes the same amount that market cleared

  29. Stat guy Says:

    Would trade and Marpet*

  30. SB Says:

    Coulda had CJ Henderson.

  31. BigPoppaBuc Says:

I’m on the fence with this one. It’s similar to when they were bringing in AB but this time we’re a little more desperate at this position. Sherman vs. Evans at practice should be fun to watch though.

  32. HeyItsAdam Says:

You can’t convince me that that a 76% Sherman is worse than a 100% whoever-the-F-Delaney-is.

  33. Joe Says:

    Wouldn’t cost much.

    ????????

Isn’t he making $15 million this year? Bucs don’t have that kind of scratch unless they start cutting players.

    Would trade and Marpet*

    ……..

If you would trade Marpet then you must be a stat guy of Lacrosse.

  35. D-Rok Says:

I read on another site that Sherman has to show up in court this Friday in Washington. Wonder if the league will suspend him or how that works while a player has pending charges??

  36. Anonymous Says:

Trade OJ and a draft pick for a solid DB

  37. Cainishere Says:

Adding another HOFer? You bet it’s the best move.

  38. SB~LV Says:

Another worn out old shoe ..

  39. Buc king Says:

Sherman perfect for this team…he has one incident off field his whole career and everyone acts like he has issues…. who with out sin should cast the first stone…he pushed on a door while screaming come threw me or wte omg he’s so scary lol…. I hope he dies the same to opposing wide outs… this is the smartest move we have..other then a expensive trade…I hope he’s reasonable with his price

  40. Buc king Says:

    Does*

  41. Buc king Says:

All the haters can eat a big d

  42. TOM Says:

I’m wondering what happened to the other veteran CB’s they signed. (Desir & Robinson? Hard to believe Delaney started ahead of eiter one of those.

  43. Adrnagy Says:

His pending legal case is something to consider unless he can play without suspension this year. But adding sherman is huge.
Line up sherman, davis , whitehead , winfield. And adding cockrell , delaney or desir is good.
Sherman will be big. Even if he isnt fast. Just him on the field changes everthing. .

  44. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

    Get Sherman!
Some don’t understand that better coverage leads to more sacks!
Plus, he will provide a veteran presence for our young secondary.

Sorry Dusthty, we already have a resident Bucs GM in PassingThru. You can be his Assistant GM if you get very upset about the ACTUAL GM not taking a CB in the 2nd Round.

  46. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Xavier Rhodes only making around 3.7 mil a year base salary so that would be a great fit here if the bucs have some $$ and trading OJ to the colts throw rojo in and get marlon mack to the bucs

  47. PassingThru Says:

Or you could be the resident idiot like Joe in Michigan.

  48. Edward Kerber Says:

    Here’s my idea:

    Step 1: Land Sherman

Step 2: Trade Shaq and a RB to Patriots (after this week’s game) and a possible third round pick for Stephon Gilmore

Step 3:Secure two DE/OLB’s from Practice squads of other teams or trade.

Step 4: Elevate RB from Practice squad.

  49. PassingThru Says:

The Bucs have been forced to play a CB who prior to Sunday, had only taken 4 snaps in his entire career as a CB. If you think that’s adequate for a Super Bowl contending team, then wave those pom poms like Joe in Michigan.

  50. Brandon Says:

If this Sherman guy can’t get heat on opposing QBs, then there isn’t much he can do to help the secondary.

  51. You gotta be crazy Says:

Just hook him up with the same life coach Brady hooked Antonio up with.

  52. #1bucsfan Says:

Joe are there any other DBs on the FA market worth looking at besides Sherman ? He wasn’t bad in his prime but seems he’s deff lost a step but man we need help badly and that was before injuries lol

  53. Bucamania Says:

I’m all for it. Need another dawg in the secondary. Dean ain’t that guy.

  54. Duane Says:

Not sure what Sherman can do, but his experience is worth it. He can play safety and let the quicker guys play coverage until SMB and Dean get back. He isnt Carlton Davis at this point and he doesnt have to be. We just need him to play center field.

  55. adam from ny Says:

hopefully those chicken tenders at publix put some pep in his step

  56. adam from ny Says:

when sheman gets off the plane and hops into a waiting car at TIA…

when he opens the tinted glass backdoor to get in…

tommy will be sitting in the back in dark sunglasses, smoking a cigar, sipping an avocado tequila with slicked back hair in a shiny greasy zegna suit…

    all he will say is:

    “welcome richard welcome……driver……one buc place”…

then silence the rest of the ride, as he looks out the window and never glances or talks to sherman again

Ouch, hahahaha! Don’t you have 2nd Round picks to complain about?

  58. buxszntkt Says:

@ adam, you forget about the hot young ladies helping them polish off their…… tequila shooters.

  59. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I think it’s funny, the people who are bad mouthing Richard Sherman, really know nothing about Richard Sherman.

  60. Drunkinybor Says:

This is a good thing! If he signs he will upgrade our secondary immediately. Our corners have no legit problem great players/veterans to look up to. If Richard can blend in and feel comfortable he will end up paying huge dividends.

  61. Dre7992 Says:

All for this! Sherman is a hell of a player. All the people saying they hate him need to just give him a shot. This is a great group of players and i think thats going to keep sherman on track to look out for the team. Id love to see him wearing a bucs jersey after years of him being a formidable opponent most notably with the legion of boom. Would be a great asset! I hope they make this happen
