Report: How Bucs CBs Play Today Will Decide Status Of Richard Sherman Talks

September 19th, 2021

Former All-Pro CB Richard Sherman.

A prominent national NFL writer suggests that if the Bucs’ corners get lit up today, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will likely begin serious talks with Richard Sherman’s people tonight.

That’s the word from long-time NFL reporter Ed Werder of BSPN. Werder twittered out today that the Bucs are inclined to see how Jamel Dean and Ross Cockrell fare against Matty Ice, Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts this afternoon.

Earlier this morning, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the Bucs had reached out to Sherman’s representatives already.

If the Bucs corners are roasted like they were against Dallas in the season-opener, Werder types, the talks between Licht and Sherman’s camp will heat up.

The main issue Joe believes is Carlton Davis’ hamstring. We do not know for sure if he will play or how serious the hamstring injury is. He is listed as questionable.

Hamstrings simply do not heal up in a day or two. If Sherman needs two weeks to practice, at best he may be ready to face the Belicheats in two weeks. That is, if Licht and the Bucs sign him right away.

If Dean can handle things this afternoon and Davis appears to be OK, the interest in Sherman will likely cool off.

Sherman sure appears to be close to done the way he played last year. Consider John Lynch and the 49ers are desperate for corners and Lynch decided not to bring Sherman back. That pretty much tells you all you need to know.

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

Sign Sherman for $20 bucks an hour

  2. JGhotier Says:

So are we only suiting up 4 active Corners today? CDIII, Dean, Ross and Double Dee…

Thought we’d elevate one of Herb or Desir from the PS for this game

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Sure. Why not? This year’s AB.

  4. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

I’m all for it. Ive said it since the draft the secondary is the weakest link. If we’re going for “2” then the first and second picks of the draft are Dline and secondary. I like Trask but I’m in it to win it. Tre Smith also was a way better option than Hansey. Giving Licht major props for the previous drafts so we will wait and see. We need the depth or we need to active on the trade block.

  5. Flyin Dutchman Says:

    Yes please!

  6. Youngbucs Says:

Pete you make me laugh daily good meds.

  7. Joe Says:

So are we only suiting up 4 active Corners today? CDIII, Dean, Ross and Double Dee…

Will find out officially at 2:35 pm when active roster is released.

  8. JimmyJack Says:

I guess we can hope hes not washed up if the Bucs sign him. We can always have our hopes.

  9. John Says:

god I hope they play good.. I dont want this tool on this team.

  10. Capt.Tim Says:

Richard Sherman is more likely to resign with San Fran, now that they’ve lost Jason Verrett.
    Sherman alreadys knows their system.
There are better CB free agents out there

  11. Flyin Dutchman Says:

    Jaymiss!!! showing up in Carolina

  12. PassingThru Says:

Pete’s funny and I think the point is well taken. I think the demand for Sherman is lower than his agent is letting on. If Sherman goes unsigned this season, his career is over. He’s a cheap date.

  13. Irishmist Says:

The Panthers DL looks really good. Winston is running for his life the entire 1st half and has already thrown 1 pick.

  14. VSyl Says:

Would prefer any other CB in the team before him. Never liked this guy.

  15. PassingThru Says:

Man, there’s going to be another war on this board if Jameis loses today.

I’m bringing the beer and popcorn.

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

    Knoxville Buc
    Yeah, pretty obvious screw up.
Dean was toasted frequently last year. We had a need at CB. Probably the only true need.
We had 3 capable QBs, and if Brady gets hurt- we’ll probably suck again no matter whos playing QB.
    We NEEDED A CB.
I raised hell on draft day. Still am.
Trask was yet another 2nd round blunder. A wasted pick.

  17. Bucfan593 Says:

I hope you let your bet ride INT Winston

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Really? Winston throws a hail mary on 3rd and long and people are taking a victory lap? LOL! Talk about your fake news hacks.

Said it last week when Brady threw an INT to end the half, that if it was Winston, they wouldn’t be saying it’s not his fault – it’s a hail mary, who cares, nope, they’d be saying Winston sucks, what an awful play.

Here you go, as I said…

Also the stupid Panthers might not suck this year, that would be terrible. The non-COVID Saints are going to be good, and if the Panthers are also good, that’s just BS as the nerds on this board promised me we’d go 17-0 and easily win the SB.

  19. '79 Defense Says:

I just read on the NFL site where Sherman is his own agent.

  20. DaBux Says:

I don’t care if we bring in someone from The Mean Machine with the ankle bracelet and all. If we give up more than 250 yards in the air to these Dixie Chick bums, we have a problem Houston.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Screw Sherman, call up Ronde. I saw him on video today, he looks the same, can probably still play.

  22. Buc50 Says:

Ronde would get smoked like everyone else if he played, probably worse. This is 2020 not 2002.

  23. Buc50 Says:

ok…2021, it feels like 2020 all over again

  24. Rod Munch Says:

You don’t even know what year it is and you MOCK my idea?!?! WOW. Getting that date wrong PROVES I know more than you. PROVES IT!!!!

  25. Stanglassman Says:

Time to celebrate JW3 haters. He’s getting no protection and threw one to the endzone with 20 secs left that got picked. Lead to zero points. This is one of the things I like about Jameis. He rather give his team a chance to win than protect his personal stats.

I though Sherman was battling a calf injury last year. Other than that I heard he was playing well. It would be a great signing for depth late into the season. A vet in that backend would be smart.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Stanglassman – yeah, but he turned the ball over and you can’t win if you turn it over!!!!! He should have done like Mike Glennon or Derrick Carr and threw it out of bounds and protected his stat sheet.

As for the Saints, said it in the other thread, but they have no legit NFL WRs, so the Panthers are just playing man-to-man and blitzing every play – if they did that against the Bucs, Brady would put up 90 since the Bucs have a ton of WRs and TEs that can all beat man-to-man coverage.

  27. Youngbucs Says:

Dude breath it’s ok maybe if y’all wasn’t acting like something was proven last week you wouldn’t be having a panic attack smh.

  28. DingleBerry Says:

    @Rod Munch

Excuse me but was it not you who was taking the proverbial victory lap last week after Jameis had one decent game where everything went right and his team essentially carried him?

“Jameis just threw 5 TDs and 0 Ints and y’all are gonna act like that’s insignificant?”

That was you right? Anyone paying attention for the last 6+ years knew not to make much ado about last week, because Jameis’ biggest question mark has always been and will continue to be INCONSISTENCY!

Don’t celebrate his good games if you are willing to weigh his bad games in equal measure my guy.

It makes you look like a pair of clown shoes.

  29. DingleBerry Says:

    if you *aren’t*

  30. Youngbucs Says:

DingleBerry that’s why he’s so jumpy right now relax bro.

  31. SufferingSince76 Says:

    You are correct, Dingleberry.

  32. JimmyJack Says:

7 years later and Winston still divides the fanbase.

I think its kinda sad only because he is a Saint now. If there is any one thing I would think all Bucs fans could agree on it would be Saints hatred. Its a shame thats not the case.

  33. Tye Says:

Shut down the Saints run game, they’ve got NOTHING…
Panthers either looking better than 1st thought or Saints defense against Packers last week was just an illusion…

    @Rod Munch

“Jameis just threw 5 TDs and 0 Ints and y’all are gonna act like that’s insignificant?”

    That was you right?

    ———-

That’s a quote? There’s nothing calling you an idiot, or saying you’re stupid, or calling you a dope. Doesn’t sound like me.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Tye – The Saints are missing a ton of coaches to COVID and put at least 2 defensive starters on short term IR. But I do agree, and said it last week, a good team like GB losing that bad is just a mirage, like how the Bucs lost to the Saints last year, and how we destroyed the Packers. Most teams have ‘one of those games’ each year, and you can’t judge your season based on that.

As for stopping the Saints, until Michael Thomas is back, they don’t have any legit NFL receivers – so if you can get an early lead and force them to throw, you’re going to get them in trouble. But they also are going to have one of the best defenses in football, so that’s not going to happen often.

If I’m wrong, then great, I’d rather have the Saints knocked out early.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

I make fun of Carr all the time, but he just threw a great pass to Ruggs. He’s been such an awful, Mike Glennon level QB for so long it’s hard to take him seriously if he’s not that. Then again last week he looked like Mike Glennon for 3 1/2 quarters, so I’ll hold back my MVP vote for now. But he does, shockingly, look good.

Also a Steelers fan said the Raiders always win vs Pittsburgh. I should have listened and laid down some money.

  37. DingleBerry Says:

“Jameis Winston’s butt drives me nuts” – Rod Munch

Hilarious how last week it wasn’t one of those games for GB, but rather Jameis turning the corner. The mental gymnastics you go through to support someone who lets you down time and time again is truly hilarious. Keep up the good work you glorified Jameis Winston hand knitted nut warmer.

  38. DingleBerry Says:

Derek Carr has been a better QB than Jameis for quite some time now, the inner machinations of your mind are truly an enigma…

  39. Rod Munch Says:

DingleBerry – dummy, I never ever would have said Winston turned a corner last week. Winston doesn’t need to turn the corner as he was never the issue in Tampa. Get your quotes and figure out who you’re talking to you silly fruit.

  40. Rod Munch Says:

Matt Gay just made a clutch kick. Wow… The curse of Donald Igwebuike is real.

  41. DingleBerry Says:

Oh I see, so I was giving you even more credit than you deserved. You are a special kind of delusional.

  42. DoooshLaRue Says:

“Winston doesn’t need to turn the corner as he was never the issue in Tampa”

OFFICIALLY, the stupidest thing ever said on this website.
    😂🤣😂

  43. Rod Munch Says:

DingleBerry – You’re not even having a conversation with the right person and you’re calling me delusional?

  44. Rod Munch Says:

Dooodoooschue… about time people are showing up, it’s getting boring in this place.

  45. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, my neighbor said we might consider trying out Gabby Petito’s Boyfriend, as a slot receiver. So far, he seems pretty elusive.
Seriously, if we can sign Richard Sherman, I say go for it.

  46. DoooshLaRue Says:

Switch over to the Gameday thread Fancy Man.

It’s time to learn us all!

  47. DingleBerry Says:

What are you on about now Butt Munch? My last comment was in direct response to you saying Winston didn’t need to turn the corner…

You are aware that despite his Start against GB being his first in over 600 days he still has more turnovers than any other player since he entered the league right?

    I agree with Doosh.

  48. Stanglassman Says:

Dingle Barry making fun of someone’s else’s screen name is hilarious.

  49. BradyBucs Says:

Winston INT on a Hail Mary? LOL

That was no Hail Mary. He had one WR on the route and tried to force an impossible throw after rolling out and getting hammered. Bad decision making.

  50. Rod Munch Says:

Stanglassman – Also ‘Rod Munch’ is a legendary line from Beavis and Butt-Head, when people don’t get that, and think they’re making a brilliant discovery… it’s never not amusing to me.

But to be clear, I’m totally for trash talking — I wish more people would do it. Makes sports more fun.

  51. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs — On a 3rd and 15, from the 45, with 20 seconds left — you try to make a play, ‘basically a hail mary’… LOL! If you don’t think that is ‘basically a hail mary’ then your blinding hatred has, well, blinded you.

  52. Youngbucs Says:

It was 3rd and 10 from the 40 with 29 seconds left. Live to 4th down and let the coach make a decision.

  53. Joe in Michigan Says:

Did you see the 2nd Jameis interception? They need to put him in a clown costume. Inexcusable.

  54. BucsCoolade Says:

Sherman is probly worth a tryout to see what his physical limits are. Seeing him and brady on same team .. after leaving 49ers… would be coool…;)

  55. BillyBucOff Says:

    Hail Mary HaHaHaHaHaHaHa
I’m still laughing just got tired of typing it.

Boy looked like an absolute clown trying to throw that ball.
It was indecision, poor execution and showed everything that makes Jaymiss an idiot.

He will throw 8 picks against the Bucs alone.
That’s assuming he even makes it to the Bucs game.
