“People Always Looked At Me As A Ballhawk”

“Ballhawk”

While appearing on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the Bucs’ 48-25 win over the Dixie Chicks, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said of safety Mike Edwards, “He’s a ballhawk.”

Edwards became the second Bucs defender to have two pick-sixes in a regular season game (tying Rondé Barber) and the third in the history of the franchise (Dwight Smith had two in the Bucs’ first Super Bowl).

Edwards seemed to agree with Arians’ description of him. In fact, the 2019 third-round pick has been hearing that most of his life.

“People always looked at me as a ballhawk,” Edwards said after the game about playing youth and high school football, and in college at Kentucky. “I’ve always been around the ball and try to make plays and create turnovers.”

Those plays and turnovers helped the Bucs seal a win over Atlanta, totally turning a too-close-for-comfort game into a total blowout.

Edwards said ever since the Bucs drafted him, it is his goal to always try to take the ball away.

If Edwards keeps this up he’s going to earn a boatload of money in the near future when his contract expires after the 2022 season.

    Good game Mike!

I know everyone wants to hit the panic button. But remember….We figured out how to stop Cheetah and Mahomes with these DBs we have. The defense has the ability to stop Stafford and Kupp. It can be done. Defense as a whole need to get their game back up to the caliber they were at the end of last season. They are struggling a bit trying to find their grove and consistency again. But we can see the flashes. Whether its next week or next month, I think they will figure it out.

One thing I liked seeing is the DL getting their hands up finally. If you can’t get to the QB, get your hands up on that pass. If teams are going to try to play the quick, short passing game with us, those passes can be tipped.

Yeah–he gets a gameball for sure! Wow–he needs to be in every game, every defensive play.

Thank you, Mike Edwards. May this be the springboard to a great contract, financial independence and league and media recognition.

If the Bucs win this year’s SB, it will because of guys like you rising to the moment. Today, you did. We all saw it. We all saw it.

Edwards needs to be on the field full time, he earned that today. Brightest spot of our secondary all day.

When there’s no chance for a turnover you better learn how to cover because our secondary can’t cover a runny nose. It was a shame watching D White getting to the qb in 2 seconds but our dbs can’t cover beyond one. It’s pretty sad Atl’s dbs showed ours what a defensed pass looks like. Only the linemen were getting their hands on the ball
