Mike Evans Names Top Bucs Leader, Pregame Speaker

September 14th, 2021

Mike Evans opens up

No Tom Brady gushing here.

The greatest receiver in Buccaneers history was talking leadership last night and his “ultimate leader” wears No. 54.

On Bucs Total Access on WDAE radio, Evans was asked about what David means to the locker room. The answer came quickly.

“Everything,” he replied. “You know, one of my favorite teammates ever, a guy I’ll always look up to, always have, the ultimate leader and captain. He talks to everybody on the team, not just defense or that guys that have been here. He talks to everybody on the team. If you have a problem, really, Lavonte’s the guy to talk to on the team. If I have a problem, I’m talking to Big Bro. For me, he’s the guy. He’ll always have your back no matter what. If you’re in the wrong, he’ll have your back. He’s going to tell you, you should have done something different, but he’ll always have your back. He’s the ultimate teammate and I love him to death.”

As for pregame hype speeches, Evans says “I love when Lavonte gets his hype,” and he praised Tom Brady and Devin White for their deliveries. But Evans said there’s a clear winner.

“JPP, he’s a different type of energy. Like JPP, even if you don’t know what he’s saying, he’s going to get your fired up,” Evans said.

LVD has always seemed like a stand up guy along with being a hell of a player.

And TBBF thought it was just him……Sometimes I think JPP had some fireworks in his mouth also…..I simply can’t understand what he’s saying sometimes.

Beautifully said Mike. “He’s always got your back.” I got me a white #54 to put on my back and I love it. Probably my favorite Buc all time.

  5. Coburn Says:

Yeah LVD has always been one of my all time favourites. Hope he can still play at a high level for a couple more years. What he says confirms what I always figured. The guy chooses words wisely and otherwise is a bit more the strong and silent type, so when he speaks up you know it’s something worth hearing

  6. Leighroy Says:

JPP reminds me of Omar Little from The Wire

  7. Mike Says:

Yeah, JPP’s got that fire man, and its infectious!

  8. D-Rome Says:

LVD has been one of my favorite players in the NFL since he’s been drafted. That being said, it’s easy for others to heap praise on you as a great leader when you’re winning. Where was this great leadership on defense between 2012-2019 when the Bucs had some of the worst defenses in NFL history?

Lmao even if you don’t know what he is saying 😭😭🤣🤣

    ROTFLMAO!!!!! Excellent!

That’s priceless. Reminds me on a SNL skit where Eddie Murphy was playing James Brown and one of the guys in the band says “What’d he say?” To which his bandmate replied, “I don’t know but it’s very important to James!”

You guys are cracking me up!

“even if you don’t know what he’s saying, he’s going to get your fired up,”

What a great line to use the week we honor the should be HOF’er Monte Kiffin. No one had any idea what he was saying, it’s basically like in Waterboy, but he got guys fired up.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

D-Rome – where was this great leadership? Gee, I wonder why defenses with Ryan Smith and Chris Conte, why a little speech couldn’t turn them into HOFers. LOL!

Takes more than some hype speech to make chicken salad out of chicken s—.

  14. mark2001 Says:

Hardy Nickerson was a great leader here. Many say Warren and Derrick, and the rest took his lead for work ethic, passion, and love for the game. And became leaders, themselves. He didn’t win here. But most of us always had the greatest respect for his contribution here.

  15. mark2001 Says:

Hardy Nickerson.. Losing Bucs team…great leader.

  16. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

He’s just mad at Brady for not throwing him the ball, that’s why he didn’t choose him,, LOL

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

LVD appears to be the ultimate teammate and Brady like his game, pucks his spots. Suh must be scratching his head during JPP’s speeches Maybe Bucs should invest in a interpreter.
