“I Would Think They Are Going To Carry This Team, Especially Early In The Season”

September 7th, 2021

“Can you hear me, Bucs fans?”

When thinking of the Bucs, one or two things come to Joe’s mind.

First is the insane amount of targets on the roster for park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

But that’s not the case for former Bucs great Derrick Brooks. Just as you expect from a Hall of Fame linebacker, Mr. Derrick Brooks is thinking defense. Specifically, Brooks is thinking about the Bucs’ inside linebackers, Lavonte David and Devin White.

Brooks appeared on “Total Access” last night and spoke about Tampa Bay’s dynamic duo.

How much of a fan is Brooks of Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, David, White and the Bucs’ defense?

“I would think they are going to carry this team, especially early in the season,” Brooks said.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

Look, Joe in no way has any right to argue with Brooks. But man, the Bucs are expected to have an explosive offense the likes of which the NFL has rarely seen. And it will be the defense that carries the Bucs?

Joe guesses Brooks has a very high opinion of the offenses the Bucs will face in their first five games (Cowboys, Dixie Chicks, at the Rams, at the Belicheats and against the Dolphins).

You can see a portion of Brooks’ appearance from the NFL Network video below.

Man, that was a fun interview to watch. Lasted about 15mins too. D. Brooks garners so much respect & he handles it well

  2. SufferingSince76 Says:

It’s great that Derrick continues to be around and provide his take on the current Bucs. Hopefully the Bucs are listening to him, as well.

  3. Bobby M. Says:

We have to remember Brooks played on some pretty stagnant offenses…..which probably did lean heavily on the defense in the first few games before they got into rhythm. I think maybe there’s some rust the first game but with a full offseason, 1 yr experience under their belt and all polished vets returning…..I don’t see them sputtering.

  4. Mike Says:

At the least, they will play complimentary football to the offense, as they did in the playoffs and Super Bowl. What an exciting time to be a Bucs fan!

  5. David Says:

I want to see the offense and defense show up on game day, week after week and dominate!!!
    LFG!

  6. G in MA Says:

Great offense and a great defense, = another SB run

  7. Bbro Says:

Bbro’s not going squabble over which is best the ‘D’ or the ‘O’ he’s mighty thankful this is even a topic. God has blessed us with great players and we’re very thankful. 🙏

I think they’ll carry each other (def, off). Tom and the offense will do their thing and from watching Brady his whole career he likes wearing out opposing def.(Dinkin ‘n’ Dunkin) allowing his def. to rest (sorry Atlanta fans) not really y’all celebrated to early. The defense will do their part and get the ball back in Brady’s hands. Now look I get that u can say that defense carried the team especially throughout the playoffs but when your offense is capitalizing on every opportunity when given it makes hellof a difference so yea I think they compliment each other real well. Honestly tho regarding the super bowl I don’t think I know the bucs would’ve won even if that D wasn’t as dominant….Brady’s beaten that chiefs defense with less talent too many times and would’ve beaten them his last year with NE if the refs would’ve let 2 certain plays play out instead they were whistled dead (fum. return Steph. Gil n n’keal “only time he did something 1rd worthy the refs screw u” harry TD )

    Defense wins championships!!!!
