Home Field Advantage And Postseason Bye In Rams’ Control

September 26th, 2021

So the Bucs are in a pickle. And Joe isn’t even talking about Ross Cockrell or Dee Delaney or the invisible pass rush.

(When your nose tackle is getting the most pressure on quarterbacks, someone or some people need to go back to the whiteboard.)

If the Bucs plan on having a bye to open the playoffs, they must first finish with the best record in the NFC. Now they are behind the undfeated Rams, Cardinals and Panthers.

The Rams have a tiebreaker over the Bucs. In what many considered a preview of the NFC title game in January, we saw how the Rams clobbered the Bucs today. That team doesn’t look like it will lose very many games.

So now the Bucs must finish with a better record than the Rams. If they don’t, there is no bye.

Given how the Bucs played 20 games last year and have an early bye this year (not a good predictor of playoff success), the Bucs will really need that bye with so many players in their 30s (and 40s).

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

Bucs aren’t getting lucky like they did last season. Our defense is exposed

  3. 813bucboi Says:

    I agree

Let’s not crown em just yet….

    GO BUCS

  4. NPRSageBoy Says:

Rams earned it; clearly wanted it more and were better prepared

  5. Adrnagy Says:

Over reacting. 17 game season. 3rd game.
    Relax.

  6. SKBucsFan Says:

A little humility early on isn’t a bad thing. I don’t mind the Rams being over-confident. How did that woek for the Aints last year? Am already looking forward to meeting these Bums again.

  7. Doug Says:

    No pass rush

  8. Elita Vita Says:

All hail the 1st place Carolina Panthers!

  9. Adrnagy Says:

The one or two thing im most surprise is where was the blitz. And running game.

  10. WalkdaPlank Says:

I was at the game and there were surprisingly many Bucs fans there. It was crazy if only they would’ve won

  11. T REX Says:

    No running game…defense is trash

  12. simeon Says:

right, but bucs schedule is soft and rams schedule very difficult.

  13. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

Why is White and David not blitzing more? It’s almost like we are just not showing our defense hand all season. Just waiting for the playoffs I guess to turn it on.

  14. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

We were physically overmatched and that worries me the most. Our secondary is what it is and it should have been addressed in the draft. The pass rush was never elite but It was good. Now it’s nonexistent. Signing Sherman is a must not just for his skill set but his mind. Hopefully he can help the secondary gel till we get Bunting and Dean healthy. I would much rather have Sherman in the red zone against a Savy team like the rams or the saints. It certainly looks like we believed our own hype a little too much. The bye week in the playoffs is certainly not out of reach. The rams will have a division gauntlet to handle themselves.

  15. Pewter Power Says:

Guess we’ll wait until the playoffs to beat playoffs teams again this year in prime time games. Patriots look like garbage but if we play them the way we played today that’s another L.

If high percentage of passes are being completed against us by a rookie qb and below average receivers then it’s time to start looking at coaching as we did before. This defense looks old.

“Home Field Advantage And Postseason Bye In Rams’ Control.”
    After three games?
With over three months and 14 games to play?
    Talk about negativity …

At this point of the season nobody is in control of anything.

  17. UncleHemorrhoid Says:

Dude. It’s one game. Stafford is it gonna get hurt I guarantee you that Stop wishing we’re going to be like the ‘ 72 dolphins.

  18. Looking at YOU! Says:

I just can’t help but to think of that line from the water boy, “oh no we suck again”.
Was there Any part of this team that is playing right?
Honestly, the offensive line has been suspect from go this year. And they couldn’t stop a child today.
Everybody knows the defense has been suspect. And I Don’t mean just the secondary! And why haven’t we had any Real pressure on any qb this year? The rest of the offense fell apart.
What in the hell is going on???
    OH NO! WE SUCK AGAIN!

    GO BUCS

  19. Jerry Says:

Doesn’t matter. We aren’t winning the Super Bowl with this defense. The regression is astounding. And no it’s not just the CBs. It’s the whole unit. The young guys look like they took a step back. The vets look old and slow. There is no pressure on the QB anymore. The opponents top receivers are consistently wide open. This is a mess.

  20. PassingThru Says:

It’s only Game 3. Does anyone really expect that Rams to win from here on out? It’s too early in the season to project who is in control of a playoff bye or home field advantage.

  21. 163Doubleplay Says:

If season ends tonight then yeah, i agree with the article but, all teams have 14 more games to be played and there are a lot of variables involve. For tonighT, my ratings are Offense B, Special teams C, Our Great Defense F. Coaches F

  22. Looking at YOU! Says:

    163,
    Come on.
    Offense B? I DON’T THINK SO! More like C to C- !

    Not good fellas. Not good.

Who in the hell are these Buccaneers? What the TRUCK???
They actually did it! They Actually bought into they’re own b.s. believing they walked on water.

Shock and Awe! I’m sad. Why are the coaches letting this happen?

  23. Bucsfan81 Says:

Haha a bye really. This team looks old and slow. They are beat to hell with injuries and it’s only week 3. They don’t have a lot of drive and that’s probably cause this team just won a Super Bowl and in their home stadium which has never been done. Kinda hard to top that.

  24. Craig Says:

Bucs, first off should not put a jet=lagged team on the field. They flew out there yesterday and the team wasn’t in mental condition to play the Rams.

The whole defense really sucked, though.

  25. Iamabuc Says:

The only thing we lost today was the so much talked about 20-0 (undefeated) season. Other than that, I still believe we’ll be ok.

  26. Wesley Says:

Lol it’s week 3 pump the brakes.

  27. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Oh sweet Jesus Joe. We still have 14 more weeks of the season, which means the season is maybe 15% over. Granted, we stunk today, but hopefully there are a couple moves in the coming days and better days ahead.

  28. Anonymous Says:

Bruh it’s 3 weeks and the Rams are in the most competitive division. Bucs schedule is pretty favorable going forward. Let’s just chill.

  29. firethecannons Says:

it should be one game at a time and stop assuming we will be in the playoffs

    I agree with this completely.

  31. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

The Rams are going to have much tougher sledding in the NFC West than we will in the NFC South. Still a whole lotta football to go.

  32. Darin Says:

Put the purse on the table and take a deep breath Josie. Cockrell played pretty damn well and the season has just begun. How’d home field work out for those teams last season anyway? Better team won today. Gota be the better team when the game’s played not the off-season. At least we wont have to see undefeated nonsense anymore. Go Bucs

  33. View from 132 Says:

It is Week 3. This article is ridiculous.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

We’re in game 3 of a 17 week season. Chill out people.

  35. bucschamps Says:

rams is a regular season team. let them savor this win and think they are on top of the hill
