“Bucs Optimistic They Can Sign” Richard Sherman

September 28th, 2021

Meeting with Bucs.

He’s in Tampa. Whether he leaves with a contract is unclear.

BSPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowle, twittered out earlier this evening that indeed, former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman touched down at Tampa International Airport and was to continue talks into Wednesday about potentially signing with the Bucs.

Well, that right there suggests the Bucs have already made up their minds that Sherman can play at a high enough level to help.

And not too long after Fowler’s report, Sherman himself announced the launch of his new podcast and said that any announcement of where he will sign will be issued on his podcast.

Now Joe isn’t accusing Sherman of anything remotely underhanded here. In fact, if Sherman pulled off what Joe thinks could be happening, Joe doffs his cap with appreciation and respect. Sherman is a very smart man.

Sherman has never played for a team located outside the western time zone. Could Sherman, in an indirect way, be using his experience talking turkey with the Bucs to perhaps share a shot of avocado tequila with Tom Brady as an episode of his new podcast?

As they say in the publishing industry, content is king.

And Joe knows everyone loves drama.

  1. Swampbuc Says:

Or he’s leveraging the Raiders, 49ers, Chargers, or Rams. Or Cardinals. They’re all good. When was the last time we could say that? And can’t blame the guy at all. It’s good business sense.

  2. EA Says:

While they’re at it, why not bring Darelle Revis, maybe he’d be interested on rejoining the goat and the bucs.

  3. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

We need a boost of swagger and kick ass in the back end. Bring it on!

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete predicts they’ll sign him after the Patriots game. The Bucs get top publicity this week from that game. Then Bucs get top publicity from signing Sherman next week.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Again, the only question to me is, can he run. I hope they did a full workout today, and personally I’d have him go out with Tyler Johnson and see if he can keep up. Johnson is not a fast guy, he didn’t run a 40 due to a hamstring, but he’s in the 4.6 range. If Sherman can walk in and keep up with him, then I’m all in, that’s fast enough. If Johnson leaves him a few steps behind, then I’m done with the conversation, say here’s some Busch Gardens gifts for the kids, seeya.

  6. SB Says:

I am optimistic that water might be wet.
However I am still not completely on board with this.
Howard for CJ Henderson would have been the move.

  7. Medicated Pete Says:

He would’ve never left town had they Pete greet him w/ a charcuterie board full of meats & cheeses & port wine.

  8. Buczilla Says:

I welcome the drama if this dude can still cover receivers.

  9. Joe Says:

    Howard for CJ Henderson

    Two questions.

    1. Why would Jacksonville, a team that is playing for the future, want an overpriced, injury-prone dude who is in the final year of his expensive contract?

    2. Why would the Bucs want to bring in a headcase/malcontent into a locker room fully focused on winning when you don’t know if he will even show up for a game because Mars is behind the moon or some weird sh!t?

Not sure why people think Howard is coveted by other teams. The Bucs would have to throw in a second-day draft pick just for someone to take Howard off their hands. He’s virtually untradeable right now.

  10. Bird Says:

    His Workout tomorrow

The two other teams 49ers and seahawks – not sure those 2 have a chance at superbowl. 49ers will not get right between 2 qbs going back and forth.
and seahawks have so many holes everywhere
Its early but that division will beat heck out of each other.
    Rams are the star there

Maybe he wants to stay west Coast but bucs prolly give him better shot at another ring.

Lets be clear- that rams game was the best we will face in nfc. We beat cowboys and they are gonna win some games. They Beat down eagles good. And i did not get hopes up w rams going west coast and missing the guys we were missing and then missing guys during game. Just watched game again and they deserved to win

But its early in year. Now – we need a db to play better. Sorry but cockrell should not be getting a ton of snaps. Sherman was hurt past 2 years. If he can run , sign the man.

  11. Ben green Says:

I don’t expect him to be able to run with kids anymore. His anticipation and ability to use the sideline were always his best attributes as a corner. He never really shadowed recievers either. Sherman always played one side or the other. They have plenty of guys who can run, but use terrible technique. Ben says what do you have to lose

  12. BA4President Says:

Agree with @admin about Howard. Other teams’ pro scouts aren’t putting their neck on the line to grade him highly. His tape over the years doesn’t get people excited unfortunately.

Also agree with @74 Bucs Fan, a little “kickass” attitude in the secondary could rub off on others.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs have 10 FAs for 2022 who’ll be over 30 years old. And many are either starters or key rotational guys (JPP, Jensen, Suh, Gronk, Gholston, AB plus Gabbert, McLendon, Minter, Wells). That’s JUST the over-30 FAs; there are another 17 who we’ll have to either re-sign or replace, among them Davis, Whitehead, Godwin, Fournette, RoJo, Bernard, Cappa plus 10 others currently on our roster.

With Sherman being 33 now, it’s fairly likely that Bucs will want to just do a 1-year contract. So that’d be 1 more key FA next year to replace. Sure would be nice to work a trade with someone for a starter-capable CB.

  14. Ben green Says:

I think Henderson would fall in line. Not really a worry with tremendous coaches like ammonia brain bruce, and the deflater in chief. Why would you worry about a locker room with those blood lines?

  15. Ben green Says:

BTW, Ben is great pals with dorrito dink, aka the deflater, aka the guy who put the needles in Tommy’s balls. This week is gonna be fun. You guys wanna know about cheating? Ben knows where all the bodies are. NDA’s be damned

  16. HC Grover Says:

All we need is an ‘average’ defense. Ranked in the middle of the NFL.

  17. PassingThru Says:

    @Defense Rules

I bet Sherman is angling for a second year. I’m sort of dubious of the “multiple teams interested in Sherman” as it begs the question as to why other teams haven’t kicked the tires. For example SF mentioned they were happy to stand pat with their current CBs.

  18. buxszntkt Says:

I am surprised Sherman has slowed, look how f-ing huge his nostrils are. He should be able to suck in plenty of Oxygen whlie he runs !!!!

  19. buxszntkt Says:

Ben Green you are a Massh-le right ?
The Bucs are gonna smack around the pats like a $10 ho next sunday.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

At age 33 and being his own agent, I wouldn’t blame him for looking for at least 2 years. But if we gave him that, then that leaves us with even less to work re-signs with some really key FAs who we must re-sign IMO (like Carlton Davis & Gronk, assuming that Brady stays with us for another year of course).

  21. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

No stone should be left unturned.

  22. Medicated Pete Says:

    @Buxszntkt

Pete has K&N air filters in his nostrils. Can run for days

  23. Nutbucer Says:

They won’t wait. Need to get him in the building and start the process. He’ll sign tomorrow.

  24. Tc Says:

He was getting beat pretty regularly with the niners. Not sure he is the answer.

  25. Ben green Says:

He needs some of what Brady takes. For y’all who think it’s concussion water or fifty dollar nuts, or Alex Guerrero, your wrong. Good ole stanozolol is what the goat relies upon. Rodger Clemens made it famous during his stint with the Toronto blue Jays. Ben is confident that Sherman will be running like Usain bolt before long

  26. Ben green Says:

While you’re at it, give some to that dildo Shaq Barrett. You pay the guy, then he gets off the program

  27. adam from ny Says:

he’s as good a signed now that dean went down…

he went from maybe signing with the bucs having bargaining tools…

to take it or leave it bucs, you lost bunting and dean, yall need me like a mofo – so fork over that loot…

    #DennysBriefcases

  28. adam from ny Says:

the question is who else is coming in…

or is the former jets corner ready

  29. westernbuc Says:

Feels like Greg Hardy leveraging us for the Cowboys. Sherman is a head case and wasn’t generating interest before his meltdown

  30. Bucsfanman Says:

Lets be real here folks. Sherman is not a silver bullet. It’s not an instant fix. Yes, it certainly helps but, if we don’t rediscover our pass-rush, it won’t make a difference.

I harken back to my ancestral motto and one that will serve the Bucs well moving forward: “You can NEVER have enough competent DBs.”
    …amen!

  31. UncleHemorrhoid Says:

He’ll play for a paycheck. Nothing more. He doesn’t care.

  32. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Gareon Conley is a proven corner that can shutdown the best WR;s in the league on a given day and much younger-so bring him in and at least have a look and complete your due diligence.

  33. SB~LV Says:

Practice starts in a few hours, if he is not on the field this morning he ain’t coming

  34. Tim R. Says:

Sherman will be an asset. However, without a sustainable pass rush the secondary will still be lit up. Getting all of our starters back with a pass rush and Sherman this defense will once again be awesome.

  35. Ash Says:

They signed Richard Sherman lfg go bucs heck yeah
