Bruce Arians: We Don’t Know About JPP

September 23rd, 2021

After Week 1, Jason Pierre-Paul found his way onto the official team injury report with a hand issue.

Now he’s got a mysterious shoulder problem.

“Jason Pierre-Paul’s got a shoulder and we don’t know how bad that’s going to be yet,” Bucco Bruce Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio last night.

That did not sound encouraging. Is the shoulder so swollen/inflamed that team doctors can’t get a good read on it?

JPP did not practice yesterday and officially was listed with a shoulder and a hand injury.

(Strangely, JPP posted on his Instagram stories feed mid-afternoon on Wednesday video of him getting off a private jet somewhere with mountains with the caption, “ONLY GOD KNOWS DA TRUE MEANING OF SETBACKS. LET’S GO GET THIS NEWSFEED.”)

Sackless through two games, JPP is a critical cog in the Bucs’ machine and in what hopefully will be a revived pass rush Sunday in Los Angeles.

If he can’t go, that means a lot more prime time work for rookie oustside linebacker Joe Tryon and Anthony Nelson. They got about the exact same number of snaps against the Falcons in relief of JPP and Shaq Barrett.

Joe has no doubt JPP can play through great pain. Joe’s just concerned about effectiveness and having him at peak performance in December.

    It’s time to panic 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

  2. Pine Hills Says:

    Who’s still available?

  3. Defense Rules Says:

This is not good news. JPP hasn’t looked like himself this year: no sacks, no QB Hits, no Hurries for a total of 0 Pressures in 138 def snaps (89%). THAT’S NOT JPP. Something’s wrong.

  4. Defense Rules Says:

BTW Joe, Shaq Barrett isn’t performing any better: 1 sack, 1 QB Hit, 1 Hurry, 1 Knockdown for 3 Pressures total in 123 def snaps (79%). And Shaq has blitzed a lot more than JPP (27 vs 10). Something’s not right there either.

  5. SB~LV Says:

A coming out party for #9

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Seems like Father Time is tapping on JPP’s shoulder (no pun intended).

  7. Winny Testaverde Says:

Ended camp declaring it’s the healthiest he’s felt since 2013 ( or so ). He looks very light weight wise. He definitely has put his body through hell over the years.

  8. Taampabaybucfan Says:

    Defense….don’t forget Shaq’s int….

As for JPP……sometimes the heart doesn’t overcome the body….this may be that time.

  9. TBSwarm Says:

Luckily, we drafted a some backup for JPP, let him rest and get healthy for the end of the year.

  10. alton d green Says:

Well Bruce are you gonna criticize JPP? Is it his fault that he’s in pain? OR r u gonna be like the “Whitehouse” and blame it on climate change? COME ON Tubby answer the question

    ^^^ ??? 🙄🙄🙄

  12. Wild Bill Says:

It’s much harder to get sacks when opponents focus on short quick throws like our first two opponents did. The Rams are going to be a very real test for the Bucs defense. Win or lose if we play them tough that will be a good sign for the rest of the year. I fear the Bucs will lose this game based on performance against the first two weaker opponents. A low scoring defensive battle could go either way. A very physical defensiive game could favor the Rams. A wide open shoot out would likely favor the bucs. The Rams have an offense that will challenge the Bucs. And receivers led by Cooper could run wild. I give the Rams the edge based on the Bucs defensive struggles the first two games against lesser opponents. Hope I am wrong.

    “Jason Pierre-Paul’s got a shoulder and ……”

I hope he’s go two of them. If one’s bad use the other.

  14. zzbuc Says:

    Let´s wait and see….

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

Maybe he flew to Cali ahead of the team to incase his back tightened up and he has time to recover from the long flight? After all the Bucs are traveling Sat instead of Friday.

  16. SB~LV Says:

Start the game with Gumby and finish with JPP …
JPP will play, BA is just tossing a story for the media to chew on

  17. gbobucsfan Says:

    Who is Gumby ?

  18. SteveK Says:

JPP is such a warrior. If there’s any possibility, you know he’s going out there and will strap it up. I hope he can compete. He’s the soul of our D.

As Mike Evans pointed out, “we don’t always understand what JPP is saying, but he fires us up with his emotional speeches”.

Dude has overcome so much to be here, hope he can find a way to continue and compete. He’s a baller.

  19. Robert Says:

Our pass rush is weak….. It will cost us games soon.

    less talk, more action.

The interior DT’s get more pressure than the DE’s.

  20. SB~LV Says:

    Gumby =‘s # 9

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

If he does play the real question is how effective will he be. Live to play another day.

  22. Beeej Says:

Do they track how long opposing QB’s hold the ball? I’m thinking opposing QB’s are under a strict rule of “get the ball out by # seconds no matter WHAT. Anyhow, if that number is lower than last year, would be interesting

  23. mark2001 Says:

JPP won’t last forever. Just the reality of things. Hope he fights through another injury, but eventually father time will prevail. Id love to see him get back to his old form. He has a great competitive spirit. But his time in the league is getting short. Let’s hope he has another year or two.

  25. Hodad Says:

Father time is undefeated, and it looks like he’s caught up to JPP. This makes his 61 snaps to Tryon’s 19 last Sunday all the more strange. Maybe it’s already time to flip those numbers.

  26. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Sometimes opportunities presents themselves in a positive way. Kind of excited to see what Joe Tryon and Anthony Nelson can do with more snaps.

  27. SlyPirate Says:

    Good thing we drafted Tryon.

    We’re good.

  28. Mike Says:

Out of the JPP Fire and into the Tryon Pan!

  29. Drunkinybor Says:

Bucs will beat the Rams they don’t scare me at all. This Buc team is going to get better and better every week. Just because we brought back all the starters doesn’t mean they won’t need time to hell again. I keep seeing everyone say how great the Rams D is well what about how great our offense is. I don’t care how the play defense there’s no way to stop all the weapons we have. Maybe it’s a close game for a half then I see the Bucs going on to win 34-23

How some of yas manage to function in day-to-day life, amazes me
