The Best Roster

While Joe would be guzzling Bromosa on tap at a Big Storm Brewing taproom, the job AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians did building the Bucs, hey, they get a pass for chugging macro brew on a boat.

We were unsure of it years ago, but Licht was building a fantastic roster. The problem was former Bucs coaches taking a leak in the punchbowl and not developing these guys.

In comes Arians and — boom! — hello, Super Bowl!

Mike Clay of BSPN, a stat geek, did a deep dive into the best position units across the NFL. His concluded nobody has a better and more talented roster than Tampa Bay.

Try this on for size. Last season, 19 Buccaneers played at least 59 defensive snaps (13,908 combined). All 19 remain on the roster. Last season, 16 Buccaneers played at least 220 offensive snaps (12,802 combined). All 16 remain on the roster. Considering the number of free agents this team had entering the offseason, the lack of turnover is incredible, especially for the defending Super Bowl champs. Tampa Bay’s roster doesn’t have a glaring weakness and perhaps is even a little bit better than last season after the additions of Giovani Bernard and first-round pick Joe Tryon. Expect Tom Brady & Co. to be in the mix for yet another Lombardi Trophy.

It’s almost scary to think a defending champion could actually be better. But that’s where we are.

There is still a cavern in Joe’s noggin that continues to believe Tom Brady leading the Bucs to a Super Bowl win is a wild, prolonged, detailed dream and Joe has yet to wake up.

Joe u know i love your site. I love giving u the buisness more. I just want 2 ask you are you going to continue to blame leftwich for not being able to develop rosen as a rookie? I have told u many times that arizona, miami, the bucs with the largest coaching staff known to man, and now san fran with the young offensive guru coach have all cut this man. Sure the falcons have picked up rosen due to the injury of their back up but he has been on 5 teams in less than 4 years. Do you still blame leftwich a black man for not developing rosen or do you now understand rosen sucks? Very interested in your response.

Hard to believe but Tampa has the best Booty EVER!!! We are PHAT, come one come all, regardless your shore to cum

licth and BA looks like real life drinking buddies

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

Licht looks like he needs a bunch of frat brothers behind him chanting “Drink! Drink! Drink!…”

Our G.M. drinks like Barney from The Simpsons. God bless the man

But but the roster is trash they have to do better around the QB circa 2019smh.

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Agree with the best roster label. The special teams group is still suspect, however.

  8. Bbro Says:

I myself was good with and trusted Arians & Licht it was always the Glazers final decisions that worried me that we might end up with another Culverhouse type of franchise which was scary as hell.

Yes he does. Just a warning, folks: Greek fraternities are a gateway to freemasonry. They are a trap.

  10. Bird Says:

    Haha

Love that pic. Licht looks like he could put down a case if he wanted

    Think about it

Our third receiver is AB…our top 3 are guys that would be wr1 on some teams
Our third tight end is Brate. Look at brates tds over the years. Solid
Our third running back is Bernard . Dude is making around 1 mil a year. That is what you call a bargain steal

And on defense you have a guy that had 19.5 sacks 2 years ago…a guy that is 9-0 in playoffs with 2 superbowls…a guy that has ray lewis type numbers in White…a defensive nfl rookie of the year candidate…2 interior bowling balls that cannot be moved with one guy …and a guy that should be in running for best season ever with 145 tackles 7 sacks and 5 ints.

Good to be a bucs fan right now bros!

  11. DayOnePaul Says:

It’s all about staying healthy. Last year we did. KC did not. Our depth helps, and is great. But if you lose one or two of these top end playmakers…

    Great photo!

This is still amazing. For a few years I was beginning to think Jon Robinson was why Licht had a good couple drafts his first years. Then when he left Licht seemed to have gone down a bit. Low and behold here we are and Robinson got out of the race for Brady and Licht didn’t. That very well could be the biggest move that stopped the Titans from winning their own Super Bowl. Great job Licht!!

Am I the only one that went straight to Wayne Newton in the Adventures of Ford Fairlane?

Since it is the Bucs we’re talking about, and remembering when they were 7-5 after getting sodomized by the Saints on national TV and looking like they’d finish 7-9……

I’ll refrain from counting chickens. There was no way on paper the 2003 Bucs weren’t a strong contender to repeat. Hello, 7-9.

Maybe it’s the same people but it’s a different team and I don’t care how much we tack about how Brady won’t tolerate complacency…..if you’re the champs it’s hard to find that extra gear of juice.

Brady is 44. Suh, JPP, LVD a year older. The Titans beat our ass in the Wednesday scrimmage, Thursday was more of a standoff. I won’t be surprised at a 1-2 start and a lot of soul searching articles getting written.

  15. Jeff Says:

Bucs D line is OLD. JPP and Suh are not what they used to be. Look for serious regression and a 10-7 Bucs team this year.

  16. Joe Says:

I just want 2 ask you are you going to continue to blame leftwich for not being able to develop rosen as a rookie?

Joe is a big believer in you have to take credit when things go right and you have to take some of the blame when things go wrong.

The fact that an offensive coordinator of a Super Bowl-winning offense that averaged 30 points a game never got an interview for a head coaching gig suggests some folks in the NFL aren’t giving Leftwich a complete pass for Rosen either.

  17. Mike Says:

Bucs need to stay healthy and keep the foot on the gas. Teams aren’t going to just lay down, they are going to bring their A game every week. As long as the Bucs can continue to execute and stay healthy though, they will win on a regular basis en route to the playoffs.

Not sure I ever saw Joe blame Leftwich for not developing Rosen… but the fact that you had to include the fact that Leftwich was a black man, because apparently only you are smart enough to state the obviousness, tells me that whatever response you get, doesn’t really matter. Go race bait somewhere else, please.

  19. webster Says:

Brandon the fact that Joe responded to my question should let you know that Joe on countless times has blamed leftwich. But I aint surprised you “didn’t see” Joe do it because people like you holler fake news even when there is certified proof. So I will let you waddle in the alternative facts universe.

Joe you did not answer my question. Leftwich not getting a head coaching job has nothing to do with the development of a guy who is on his 5th team in 4 years. Isn’t the 49ers coach a certified guru? Should we fire him because he couldn’t develop Rosen? Is he not worthy of being a head coach because he couldn’t develop Rosen? Why are you not blaming these other teams? Hell Air Corelle, Bill Walsh etc couldn’t develop Rosen. Why??? Because he SUCKS!!!!! Stop the stupid narrative that Leftwich who was only the OC for half a year couldn’t develop a trash qb who no other team including the bucs couldn’t develop. Its disingenuous

  20. Joe Says:

Joe you did not answer my question

Very much did answer your question. You just didn’t like the answer.

Webster is a rasis Thats a Fact

Probably 95 % of posters on here feel the nexts bucs head coach should be Bowles (choice #1) or leftwich (choice #2)

Webster called tampa a hick town …thats a fact
    No question he hates WP

Nothing worse then a hypocrite who calls other people hypocrites

Those bottles look smaller in Jasons mitts than mine. Maybe he is drinking shorty’s? LOL. Guess not. 12 pack…you see Jason coming, start running.

  24. Swampbuc Says:

All due respect to everyone but Rosen just got cut by the Niners after plucking him from our PS. So BA BL and friends did try to give him
another chance. Sometimes a dude just sucks. Rosen needs to be accountable for Rosen. I’d rather him than Trashk but BA likes Trashk .

He knows better than me. Of course BA likes Goobert too.

    Don’t get injured Tom.
