Ryan Griffin Is A Former Bucs QB (For Now)

August 31st, 2021

Gone.

Bad timing for Ryan Griffin, but what a way to make a living.

The Bucs’ long-time third-string quarterback was sent packing today in a not-really-surprising move reports Avi Meirov of “NFLUpdate” podcast and the PFF tribe.

This is not a surprise since the Bucs drafted Kyle Trask in the second round.

It was hard for Joe to believe the Bucs would keep four quarterbacks and, for a while, Joe thought either Griffin or Trask was going to have a mysterious ankle injury or ingrown toenail to be hidden on IR for the remainder of the year.

Bad timing for Griffin as he got engaged to a Tampa girl this past offseason. He is eligible for the practice squad if he clears waivers.

But hey, he made some really nice change through the years with the Bucs charting plays and being Tom Brady’s wingman on his avocado tequila boat parade binges.

    lol TB is hammered

  2. Hodad Says:

It’s time to completely move on from Griffin. If you’re going to waste a spot on the P.S. for a Q.B. it would be better to find a QB who might have a future in the NFL. That’s not Griffen. His ceiling is that of a third string QB. No physical presence, no running ability, no arm talent, what good is he really? He knows the offense, big deal, he can’t execute it. Thanks for your service, you made more than what you were ever worth to the organisation. Wish you well coaching high school football.

  3. Joe in Michigan Says:

Hodad: I agree, but I think Griffin is well liked in the Bucs organization. If you think that doesn’t matter, take a guess why Gabbert is still around.

  4. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Ha ha Scam Newton just joined Griff on this list!!! Priceless 😅🤣😂

  5. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Thanks Joe for putting me on your hit list

  6. Bird Says:

    Yup

    Cam newton gonzo
We will be playing a rook in new england game
    Love it

  7. DoooshLaRue Says:

    DBBF99,

We all have to do our time man.
I was on it for over a month recently.

  8. mark2001 Says:

D and D… but the dark web purveyors of fake science are still chirping on a daily basis. Go figure.

  9. SB Says:

Shoot Doosh I was on it for over 6 months last yr!

  10. Tackleblockwin Says:

When Griffin first came to the Bucs I was ok with it. I thought maybe one day he would develop into a starter. As soon as we drafted Trask, I think we all knew he was going to get cut. Griffin got a very fair chance to develop. But we can all see now he is a backup at best. Nothing wrong being a backup QB, but we don’t need 3 backups.

  11. allbuccedup Says:

He should clear waivers and be on practice squad.

  12. Bird Says:

    Dbff99 and dooooshlarue

You guys are lucky. Ive been on hit list for about a year
I cant make a post in open threads cause joes are busy watching game

  13. The Red Mirage Says:

He’ll be on the practice squad because of COVID.

  14. mark2001 Says:

Wouldn’t surprise me if he went to N.O. and took Jameis’s current job.

  15. geno711 Says:

I am actually ok with him on the practice squad. Someone who knows the system. Coaching staff invests most of its time with Brady for game day plays and with Trask for development. His asset on the practice squad on helping the other players develop the right way (Buc way) for the future.

That still has to have some value. If you get a development QB on the practice squad, you would you lose on developing of other guys.

    Mark2001

Nobody even brought up a comment that you have now spun it into

    Congrats

You are doing everything you can to ruin this amazing site
You just cant help yourself weirdo

  17. Bird Says:

Herb miller is a little surprise. Makes me wonder if they are going after free agent as delaney likely 5 And hamilton already cut

  18. Drunkinybor Says:

I don’t have very good knowledge of our rivals in the south back up Q.B.s. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if a NFC south rival signs him gives him a pay day get his info about our offense then cut him.

  19. Infomeplease Says:

Trask looks good enough for the cut to Griffin. The future is the future!!!

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I think I’m still on the list after being in the cooler a couple of years ago…..I’ve been critical but careful not to impugn Joe’s motives….

As for Griffin….it’s a mixed bag as far as the practice squad….on the positive side, in an emergency, he knows the system well….and knows the players & coaches.

On the negative his salary is over $940K…..so we could save that….and, correct….he has no future.

The dye was cast when we drafted Trask.

  21. Buc4evr Says:

I’d seriously consider Cam as a backup if he can’t find a starting gig. Even with his shoulder issues, he is still better than Gabbert will ever be.

  22. Marine Buc Says:

It was pretty obvious after Griffen didn’t play a single play during the final preseason game.

  23. mark2001 Says:

Bird..you sound like a wackobird, too. I was commenting about two posters thoughts just before my post.

D and D were talking about suspension. I was just saying that many have said far worse than these guys, with their fake news and dark web theories, and they still post. Just don’t get the standard ..and sounds like they don’t either. Doubt their posts were detrimental to the wellbeing of the readers, either.

  24. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He made great money for basically sitting on his ass.
Trask is way better, time to move on.

  25. mark2001 Says:

Bird… I was addressing a comment from two guys. Do you read posts?

  26. Cobraboy Says:

I suspect Griffin’s true value is playing QB for the defense outside of team practice periods.

  27. Brandon Says:

The know nothing knuckleheads will talk about picking this guy up or cutting that guy but the truth is, you guys know nothing about football. It isn’t Madden. Picking up a QB at this stage of the game to be #2 is asinine. The QB with the second best mental grasp of our offense in the entire NFL is on the roster in Blaine Gabbert. No, he absolutely is not great despite having great tools but his knowledge of this offense is second only to Brady. Trask has no shot in HEIL of overtaking Gabbert this season and most street free agent QBs probably couldn’t get caught up to how much Trask knows of the playbook by week 10. Being able to run the plays that are in the playbook is paramount to having a successful backup… not having a read option QB like Newton, who the entire playbook would have to be scrapped. And say what you want about Gabbert, he’s good enough to take this team and beat all .500 and below teams and that’s as good as you can ask for from a #2 guy. If we had a four game stretch, Gabbert SHOULD be able to get us 3-1 during that stretch so when/if Brady came back we weren’t in a hole.

Anyways, go back to drooling with your fingers up your noses and hoping that some other name that you recognize gets cut that we also won’t be bringing in here.

  28. Eddie Marz Says:

Glad I’m not in Hodad’s family. Throw you away like a hot potato. GO BUCS!

  29. Brandon Says:

Mark, i read your posts. That’s how everyone knows that you are a useful idiot. The Empire thanks you for your unquestioned loyalty. I think maybe you might wanna loosen up that N95, the lack of oxygen has seriously affected your ability to use critical thinking… unless you’ve never had it.

  30. Wild Bill Says:

Ryan was a dam nice guy but the Bucs should have brought in a development qb a few years ago. He was well liked by everybody with the bucs including management, players and coaches. Truth is the bucs should have brought in a more athletic development qb long ago but that’s not Ryan’s fault. I still think the bucs should watch the waivers for an older very capable qb with much better physical ability than Gabby fall down.

  31. Joe in Michigan Says:

Brandon: I’m okay with Gabbert being the backup, but also pray we don’t need him to play this season, unless it’s like the Detroit game last year.

  32. mark2001 Says:

Brandon…you sound like a simple fake news swill sucker. And you have never posted an insightful comment on this board. Ever.

  33. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Dang Doosh that’s ruff. Freedom of speech just watch what you day

  34. crazyBucs_CL Says:

it was obvious, they working for Trask_The_Future. So far, he is exactly where he should be. I hope TB12 gives him two years to build up. Gabbert suck, he is an other BS of BA. but as long as he is there, Trask is not going to get exposed.
Griffin nice guy, got pay 6 years in NFL, he is living healthy… i guess he did pretty good. Good luck buddy, hopefully you invested your money. That’s it.

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I actually agree with Brandon albeit in a kinder-gentler way…..

I think Gabbert is best equipped to be the backup because of his knowledge of the offense and reps with the receivers…..he also has the trust of BA and BL, works with Brady…..
    He doesn’t need our trust….he needs theirs….
The time to have found a better backup was last year…..

Gabbert with the starting offense can be at least adequate temporarily….we couldn’t find an affordable alternative….

This is great for Trask…..he need not worry about pressure.

  36. DBS Says:

Well I see Brandon is back. Of course he is like Munch. Only time he shows up is to throw insults and name calling at people. Brandon you are superior to nobody and show us all exactly the type person you are.

  37. ocala Says:

I hope he is put on the practice squad.

  38. Merlin Says:

Only way Gabbert comes in instead of Trask is if we’re on the cusp. If we’ve got a 2 game division lead or out of contention, Trask comes in for sure.
