Ronald Jones Wants Preseason Snaps

August 2nd, 2021

Ronald Jones

Ronald Jones had his breakthrough 2020 season without one preseason snap.

RoJo opened with 17 carries for 66 yards against the Saints and didn’t look back until a Week 7 through 9 swoon that ended with his monster game at Carolina in Week 10.

The final regular-season tally for RoJo was 978 yards, averaging a Bucs-record 5.1 yards per carry for a full-time running back.

Joe asked RoJo yesterday if he wanted/needed preseason snaps after having a strong season without one, and no practices against other teams, like the Bucs will do in two weeks against the Titans.

“Yeah, I still like it, just to get those hits and stuff under your belt,” RoJo replied, adding that he thinks preseason is good for the whole team to get “more chemistry.”

As Joe has written many times, Tom Brady has taken a lot of preseason snaps since he turned 40, and there’s been no hint in Bucs camp that Bucco Bruce Arians will sit starters like Sean McVay and other head coaches do. Of course, John Harbaugh in Baltimore has had great success going all out in preseason, and Bill Belicheat isn’t one to sit his first-teamers.

There are many approaches to getting a team ready to win a Super Bowl. Joe’s confident Arians knows the right touch this group of veteran Bucs.

17 games is Killing the Goose that lays the Golden eggs, IMO. Owners, TV make more players get beat to @hit .

Really SB? I will take the @$$ woupan for that ca$h if they don’t want to, salary cap is going up, they will be FINE!

  3. Mort Says:

SB – Even 18 games will be fine. As long as they don’t do something absurd like the NBA or MLB, they’ll be fine. 20 is probably where it’ll end up tbh.

Give Rojo a few snaps but give Keyshawn a bunch more.

The trick to the longer season will be rotations. The coach that can play starters less per game by utilizing depth will have fresher starters at the end.

The Bucs are in great shape accept for the DL. I really hope we sign another player who can provide breaks for the front three.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

Starters will run a few series against opponent’s starters. When you need to pull them is when the opponents start playing their rookies and veterans trying to make the 53-man squad. That’s when things get a little freaky and players get hurt.

  7. Will Says:

Another key to this expanding season is that the rosters need to expand as well as adding more to the practice squad.

  8. SB~LV Says:

IMO . They , owners, should have to increase the roster size when they add games to the regular season. Along with some other changes, like dressing more than 53 on game day, along with a creative way for teams to carry and develop QB’s

I have never been a fan if sitting healthy players, even in PS.

Game reps, even PS reps are crucial for getting the mind right before the real bullets fly.

    Seems Brady knows this, too.
