Gronk Undecided On 2022

August 18th, 2021

Plans unknown.

Now Joe’s not trying to get too far ahead of things here. But Joe also suspects Bucs fans would like to know.

So yesterday at Bucs practice at Camp Cupcake, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe stopped by to write about the ex-Belicheats on the Tampa Bay roster. Of course one is foot-rubbing, car-littering Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Gronk’s contract runs out after this season. His former Belicheats teammate, Tom Brady, has done nothing to dispel the notion that he will return to the Bucs in 2022 — he’s under contract through the 2022 season.

Volin asked Gronk if he and Brady are tied at the hip. Gronk said he has made no decision about his 2022 plans.

Gronkowski signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers worth $8 million guaranteed, plus $1.5 million in incentives. He’s not making any decisions about 2022 until he’s done with 2021.

“I’m year to year, for sure. A hundred percent,” he said.

Joe has a hunch if Gronk is having fun — he sure did last year — and more importantly is healthy, that he might just stick around for 2022.

As Volin points out, Gronk is heavily involved with the TB12 treatments and constantly works with Brady’s personal trainer Alex Guerrero at the TB12 facility in Tampa.

Given that Guerrero isn’t going to stray far from wherever Brady is and the TB12 facility is near One Buc Palace, Joe has a hunch if Gronk wants to play in 2022 it will be in Tampa.

Provided Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht finds a way to fit Gronk’s salary under the cap.

I’m pretty sure Licht’s take on Brady holds true for Gronk.
If he wants to play here, they will figure it out salary wise.

Next year he might play for 6 or 7 with more incentives.
They key word is definitely “FUN”
I personally believe Gronk had his funnest season last year.

    Go Bucs!!!
PS: Playing for Belicheat can’t be FUN

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He’s been pretty much year to year since coming here. He goes when Brady goes.

  3. PSL Bob Says:

You can be sure that if he’s not with the Bucs in 2022, he won’t be another team either. He retires a Buc.

TB12 “treatments” = HGH, don’t act like this isn’t what almost all high level athletes are doing now

  5. Cobraboy Says:

One reason Brady is in Tampa is that the team green-lighted the relationship between Brady, Guerrero and the Bucs.

The Pats shut Guerrero out of team facilities and forbid Pat players from the use of Guerrero as a consultant. THAT is what came between Brady & Belichick, pure and simple.

Now whenever you see Brady, you see Guerrero very close by.

  6. Cobraboy Says:

The ultimate smite would be Gronk and Brady wearing red to their Canton ceremony.

  7. John Sinclear Says:

Pul-eeze!! Can we at least start the 2021 season first?

  8. Oneilbuc Says:

Gronk and Brady are Patriots they will never be considered a buc !! They will be remembered as guys that played for Tampa just like Johnny U with the Chargers Montana with the Cheifs. But they are retiring as Patriots wich they should!!!

  9. Cobraboy Says:

Johnny U and Montana did not will a Lombardi with their new teams.

Gronk and Brady are going for #2.

    Cobraboy gets it.

That said, I’m sure they’ll go into the HOF as Patriots, simply bc they both played there much longer.

But maybe if we get a 3-peat, that will change things…

Gronk is awesome, hope he comes back. Can you imagine Wirfs and Gronk blocking for Alstott?!? Football porn!
