”Come Off The Bus Ready To Go”

August 29th, 2021

Shaq

The big challenge for the Bucs this season?

Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett talked about it … and then he walked the walk.

Shaq was barking on SiriusXM NFL Radio last week that the Bucs can improve in 2021 by starting faster. “Come off the bus ready to go,” Shaq said, noting the Bucs were not good at that last season.

In Shaq’s mind, the Bucs didn’t start fast enough in games and that is a huge area for improvement.

Against Houston last night, after an ugly-ass drive to start the game the Bucs offense was on fire quickly, racking up a whopping 184 yards on 15 plays over the next two drives.

The defense beat back the Texans and the Bucs jumped out to a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter, which led Bucco Bruce Arians to yank all the starters from the game.

That start certainly came Shaq approved, and Joe thought Shaq looked electric chasing down Texans QB Tyrod Taylor early in the game.

Shaq’s right. Faster starts sure would be an area that could lead the Bucs to hit a new level.

Joe was reminded of the power of fast starts last night.

    Suh was missed,
it was a bad version of “Wet Paper Bag Run Defense”.
That long drive by the Texans was not fun to watch.

It was good to see TB 12 was on track, boat racing the Texans on the 2nd and 3rd drives of the game.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. Crickett Baker Says:

Nobody seems to mention Stuard, but I saw him all over the field taking part in tackles even tho he missed a few. I did wonder where Gronk was, though.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

    @August 1976 … “Suh was missed’.

Halleleujah August, at least someone noticed how critical Suh is to our defense. Can’t believe some anonymous JBFer said ‘No big loss’ about Suh going onto the COVID list. That 2nd Houston drive … almost 10 minutes … was the perfect answer to the Bucs’ offense (keep ’em on the bench). And most of it was running the ball. Without Suh anchoring our DLine, we’re vulnerable. Vea’s a force by himself, but with him AND Suh out there our DLine interior is almost impenetrable.

  4. mg Says:

    Save Gronk for later.

  5. Christos Says:

Whoever says Suh is not a big loss probably isnt watching many Bucs games. I mean come on guys layoff the Bromosas after you had 3. Go Bucs

  6. SB~LV Says:

I guess Scotty Miller didn’t break his arm.. I was worried I might read that somewhere this morning but have not found it….. yet

  7. Bob in valrico Says:

    @DR
Amen, brother. I am for keeping SUH for as long as he wants to play.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Doesn’t seem like we need much of a running game……let’s stop with that 1st down up the gut stuff……use the pass to open up the run…..that’s what we did last night except when the backups played.
We saddled Trask with a wasted down most every time.
Just play action on first down & let Brady do his thing.

That play gave me a fit of the giggles. Lol.

  10. Bird Says:

Agree. Suh and vea in the middle- you aint running there. And Too much speed with our linebackers if you go outside.

The texans ran all over us ..even running on 3rd and 5
    Get well suh-ey
    He likes it here
He is a business man too and around 10 mil a pop seems good to me …hope he plays another year

And it was good to finally have some runs. Cant just throw all the time. Defenses cant stop both. Rojo had his jersey ripped again cause you just can arm tackle the man.

Evans/ godwin/ AB/ Gronk on the same team normally only happens in madden. Think about how good those guys are and we have some good guys even behind that in Brate/ scooter/ johnson / OJ

Secondary behind starters looked better too. Just in case of injuries. Delaney may be 5th

Oh and blaine is just not that good. Brady will throw that ball in the dirt cause he knows and even said in interview on TV , he cannot let the team down. If he gets injured they are done w gabbert and he knows it

I watched Stuard a lot. I like his back story and routed for him. As usual I saw lots of effort. But too often he took poor angles against running plays to his side and was completely out of the play. Not good instincts for a LB. His only chance is as a special teams guy. Lots of effort but that’s not enough. You have to be in position to make plays in the run game. The wide runs left him buried in the middle and out of the play.

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Look out for Tyron! He made plays everywhere.

  13. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Why could the special teams coach not be replaced in the offseason? It’s a huge liability.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

If you could transmogrify Stuard’s grit, will, and determination into a faster, more athletic body, you’d produce a Hall of Famer.

I like the kid, but he’s a half step slow to everything, unfortunately.

My nephew, a Texan fan in Houston, called those drives by Brady “an unstoppable, well-oiled machine.” I did not get to see them live because of crappy third-world innerweb at the time, dammit!

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Cobraboy … Your nephew nailed it IO when he said that the Bucs looked like ‘an unstoppable, well-oiled machine’ on those 2 drives. Not only was Brady incredibly hot, but ME13, Godwin & AB were getting open constantly (especially Godwin, what a beast).

Houston (#27 defense last year) doesn’t exactly have the #1 defense in the NFL however. I’d love to have seen in preseason how our first-team offense would’ve done against a Top-10 defense, but even the Titans defense wasn’t rated that highly last year (#24). Cincy’s defense actually ranked the highest of the 3 (at #22).

Personally I like how BA is stressing Start Fast (he tickled me in his press conference focusing on the Bucs’ 1st drive). Also tend to think that against top defenses, Bucs will need to show more ‘balance’ in their attack. Gonna be a good season in any event.

  16. webster Says:

Fast starts? Phewy….Play SIXTY MINUTES. Find a way to win. PLAY SIXTY MINUTES!!!
