Bucs “Very Hopeful” For Jordan Whitehead Return Facing Cowboys

August 29th, 2021

Week 1 status.

The Bucs, including today, have 12 days to prepare for Week 1 and the season-opener against Dallas. Will Jordan Whitehead be on the field?

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said the team is “very hopeful” Whitehead will play. But it is far from a guarantee.

Whitehead has a mysterious injury that has knocked him out of most of training camp. He had shoulder surgery in the offseason after getting it blown up against the Packers in the NFC title game.

Whitehead gutted it out in the Super Bowl.

And just before camp began, Whitehead was placed in the dreaded COVID protocol.

Joe isn’t too worried about Whitehead. Safety may be one of the deepest positions on the team. Remember, when Whitehead went out in the NFC title game, the Bucs were playing two backups safeties as Antoine Winfield didn’t travel to the game as he had a bum ankle.

Cowboys getting killed by Jacksonville 27 to 7 in the 4th.

  2. Wild Bill Says:

Probably won’t need him against Dallas. That gives him a few weeks to get ready.

    Cowboys suck!

  4. PassingThru Says:

Dallas was playing their deep reserves who simply aren’t very good.

But then I don’t expect Dak Prescott to be all that effective after missing every preseason game and lacking decent practice time. They’re going to have to rely on Zeke. With Suh back in the lineup, I don’t expect the Bucs to be as challenged as they were last night defending the fun.

  5. Flyin Dutchman Says:

that’s alright, make sure he is 99% ready to go. Joe, what is the timeline for cuts/final 53 man roster? I’m specially interested in the LB’s Britt, Grant and Jones?

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Those mysterious injuries are a bitch……let’s hope it’s a strained mysterious….not a torn mysterious or the dreaded broken mysterious.

As for the reserve linebackers, my sense is that Britt will make is….& depending on how many they keep….Jones….but Stuard will hit the practice squad….great kid….great hustle….but not quite ready.

  7. Jersey buc Says:

Prefer him to play Edward can ball though if need be

I can envision the CowGirls playing decent the first quarter and a half. But talent wins out and Bucs blow em out. They will be fresh with visions of grandeur and Superbowl. That will give them alot of confidence…UNTIL… We start playing to how we are capable and we take their their will. Just like the Lightning did in the final. Coach Cooper said one if my favorite sports talk ever!!

In the end, it’s our will. It’s our will and our attitude to take them out,” Cooper said. “That’ll be everything. They will at some point tonight — because of you and your will — they will decide to lose. It’ll happen at some point. If you play the same way with the same grit and the same passion you’ve done for two years, they will choose to bow out. Make them do it. Let’s go.”

  9. Cobraboy Says:

I almost forgot Whitehead because the safety position is so deep.

  10. BerrickDrooks Says:

    we have great depth.

  11. Stu Says:

Thought last night’s telecast said it was a hamstring…

  12. Infomeplease Says:

Edwards would start on 29 other nfl teams. If JW can’t go, the BUCS will be fine. Go Bucs!!

  13. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’m guessing the Bucs keep 4 safeties on the opening day roster, with some worries about Whitehead’s health. I’ve seen some predictions of 3 safeties making it, presumably because Cockrell can play there, too.

That’s interesting because Cockrell has really played safety well in training camp.

  15. Stanglassman Says:

I had to do a double take cause I thought those were My Arms on that Jordan Whitehead picture. 💪

  16. QB whisperer Says:

Stanglassman, if those were your arms you’d be tatted up pretty good, but only elite professional athletes do that and I’m guessing you don’t fall into that category. Get better Jordan Whitehead, we miss you buddy.

  17. SB Says:

Hey the Joes finally took a day off.
Kudos to you Joe!. Not too much Big Storm I hope tho! 🙂

  18. gp Says:

It just struck me the difference between the picture for this article and the previous one.
Cappa’s seems to say,” You wanna throw down? Lets go! A couple extra scars can’t hurt and might help. Chicks dig scars, right?”
Whereas Whiteheads picture seems to say ” I’m just f’ing crazy enough to do it!
Go ahead, make my f’ing day!(NOT in a Clint Eastwood voice)”

Dude is brittle. One out two injuries away from career ending. Has he ever played a whole season, you know is he like OJ?

Whitehead gave up his body so the Bucs could beat Green Bay, then PLAYED IN THE SUPER BOWL INJURED! Show the man some respect.

  21. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Joe go somewhere with your hurt feelings. Stating what’s obvious. He stays injured

  22. Joe in Michigan Says:

You do know he played in all 16 games last year, right?

  23. Joe in Michigan Says:

And the playoffs. Don’t let facts get in the way of your feelings, Big Dave.

correct me if i am wrong but he played a full season just this past season.

2019, he as placed on ir on 12/18 with a hammy injury. why risk further injury when the team was mathematically out of the playoffs?

it seems like your take was a lazy one at best!

  25. mark2001 Says:

Actually I think he hits too hard, for his own good. Maybe a little more wrapping up and stripping. I really like what he brings to the team, but he isn’t a SUH kind of build. Even guys like John Lynch could only take so much hard hitting before dealing with potentially serious injury looking them in the face. Jordan.. I hope you can find a way to stay healthy enough to keep playing for another 10 years.
