Bucky Brooks: Shaq Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul “Deadly”

August 14th, 2021

Dancing on QB graves

When Joe sees both Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul harassing quarterbacks on the football field, it brings a tear to Joe’s eye.

For years, Joe sat awake in bed in the middle of the night cursing out loud because a Pasco County high school summer flag football league got more pressure on quarterbacks than what the Bucs claimed they had in a pass rush. It was obscene and so godawful.

You do the math: The Bucs were the bottom-dwellers of the NFC South when they had no pass rush. The Bucs build a pass rush and all of a sudden they are Super Bowl champs.

Coincidence? Hell, no!

In choosing his top pass-rushing duos, former NFL return man and defensive back Bucky Brooks, who now works for NFL Network, has Shaq and JPP as his No. 2 twin towers of quarterback terror.

In fact, Brooks said Shaq and JPP are “deadly” on quarterbacks.

It is too hard to separate the top two pass rushers for the Buccaneers with defensive coordinator Todd Bowles utilizing a blitz-heavy approach that gives any defender with pass-rush ability an opportunity to chase the QB. Barrett and Pierre-Paul are a deadly combination off the edge with their complementary pass-rush skills (Barrett relies on speed and quickness; Pierre-Paul utilizes a power-based approach with rugged pass-rush maneuvers) giving offensive tackles problems on the edges. White is the Buccaneers’ wild-card pass rusher from the second level. He exhibits impeccable timing and explosive power shooting through gaps on a series of designated blitz pressures that overwhelm opponents and bust pass protections at the line of scrimmage.

Look, all the Bucs know they have a pass rush. And it isn’t always just from Shaq and JPP.

Sean Murphy-Bunting said this past week that when the Bucs throw rookie Joe Tryon into the mix, it’s going to be “scary” for opposing quarterbacks.

That is just music to Joe’s ears.

I totally agree, and think we got a steal in Joe Tryon.
Many, including myself, did not expect Tryon to be there, when we picked.
Of course, no one expected Tristan Wirfs to be there either!
That makes 2 awesome players who fell to us in past Drafts.
And, Tryon will make it 3 players who made it all the way down to us!
Long Time Buc Fans could only DREAM of the Team we have now!

    JPP will slide inside sometimes.

We will have all 3 playing together sometimes on nickle and dime packages.

And I hope we keep giving Vita Vea snaps at DE like in the playoffs.

He is unstoppable 1 on 1. And when he plays DE,he has the chance to CRUSH offensive tackles. They are just two tall to take him on 1 on 1.

We’ve busted on early round edge rushers for a long time, but we haven’t had a decent HC and DC since Gruden and Monte. He could be a huge steel for the OLB rotation staying fresh.

Excited to watch these guys trying to make the roster. Depth and Defense wins championships.

Can’t wait to see Tryon, Darden, Khalil. Three amongst everyone else of course.

    Swaggy Baker!

It’s hard to believe that Bucky ever played pro ball and that he gets payed for his increasingly dumb opinions. Wft at number three? C’mon Bucky you seem smarter than that dude. They didn’t even have a double digit sack guy last year.

Yes. Music to my ears to. QBs can’t do to much when their running for their lives. Let’s go Bucs
