Buccaneers-Texans, Open Thread

August 28th, 2021

“Watch what I do tonight, Mike.”

It’s the Super Bowl champs playing all starters against the sorry-ass Texans and new defensive coordinator Lovie Smith.

If you’re on the field, then play well. No excuses. Simple as that.

Chat here with fans all day long. Play nice.

    LFG Bucs!

  3. SteveK Says:

    LFG Joes and Ira too!

  4. Chris Says:

Lord, please don’t let anyone get hurt tonight. I know Ariana is big on playing starter. I hope they ball out and get out.

  5. DoooshLaRue Says:

I hope the Texans are Tampa ready.

    And please, no profanity!

  6. Miller5252 Says:

Is that a pic of Mike Smith sniffing Lovie’s hair?!?! 😉

  7. Winny Testaverde Says:

Two turds from the lost decade punch bowl…

  8. The Red Mirage Says:

    LFG

  9. Bird Says:

    Hahahaha

Joes. I like it. You added to test

  10. David Says:

I want the office and defense to dominate but most importantly no injuries!!!

  11. David Says:

    *offense ^^

  12. BradyBucs Says:

    David,

The Office series ended after 9 seasons. Great show, though.

  13. Jason Says:

Umm… Should Ronde and Chris be all up on each other like that?

  14. JimmyJack Says:

Rightly or wrongly i think if we dont see something good tonight fans will be concerned. Especially from the offense.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  15. PassingThru Says:

    Let’s Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. PassingThru Says:

It isn’t just the return man, it’s the poor blocking.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

    RUN UP THE MIDDLE! YES!
    LEFTWICH MIDSEASON FORM!

  18. PassingThru Says:

The defense read that one. TFL

  19. BuccoDav Says:

    Good Gawd!

  20. Bucsfan81 Says:

    Super bowl hangover

  21. unbelievable Says:

Hey let’s call a run play on 1st and 15 from our own 11 yard line!

^ The genius of Byron Leftwich

  22. David Says:

WTH. I have now seen Bernard target in three times in the last couple games and he dropped two of them. That is why you are here dude! Catch it!!

  23. BradyBucs Says:

    HAHAHA.

Lovie was like, “Suck it, Joe!”

  24. Rod Munch Says:

What a great series of playcalls by Leftwich, he’s really bringing it!

  25. unbelievable Says:

    El oh el

  26. DaBux Says:

    Flashbacks.

  27. PassingThru Says:

This is why you want the first team offense to play during the preseason. Pass protection needs work as does just about everything else.

  28. Medicated Pete Says:

Time to put Gene Deckerhoff out to pasture.

  29. BuccoDav Says:

    Good job, D!

  30. Rod Munch Says:

3rd and 17 and you’re dumping off a pass that would have gone for 2 yards if it wasn’t dropped.

    Terrible play calling.

  31. PassingThru Says:

Yes good job D… which makes me think my feed is delayed.

  32. Bojim Says:

They need to win the first half big or get blown out. Either way will sharpen them for Dallas.

  33. TheShaz Says:

The offense looks like it a ton of rust to work thru

  34. Medicated Pete Says:

Gene Deckerhoff thought Antonio Brown was Gronk

  35. JimmyJack Says:

Loved seeing JPP making that play on 2nd down. Now we really need to see the offense move the ball. That first series was gross.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

What a BS series, you don’t start a series without running up the middle. Dummy.

  37. PassingThru Says:

    Now we’re talking.

  38. unbelievable Says:

Now this is what I like to see!

  39. BuccoDav Says:

OK, the offense seems to be working…

  40. Rod Munch Says:

All passes? But we need to have a running game. This series was a complete failure.

  41. PassingThru Says:

    YES!!! CG

  42. BradyBucs Says:

HEHEHEHEHE YOU AIN’T STOPPING THIS OFFENSE!

  43. David Says:

Well. That drive just put the NFL on notice

  44. unbelievable Says:

They didn’t even bother trying run once lol

  45. BuccoDav Says:

    Now, that’s a Lovie defensive performance…

  46. Rod Munch Says:

What garbage, people acting like scoring points is a big deal. That’s nothing without a running game.

  47. Wesley Says:

    This Brady dude looks good.

  48. PassingThru Says:

OK, remind me why we’ve retained the special teams coach.

  49. DoooshLaRue Says:

Chris Myers isn’t as painful to listen to as Ronde is.
Loved ya as a player #20 but announcing ain’t your bag.

  50. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Is Vern playing?

  51. BradyBucs Says:

    LOL @ Rod.

Exactly. We rarely need to run. Just go shotgun, hurry-up, with 4 or 5 WRs. NO ONE is stopping this Offense when we execute like that.

If we maintain decent pass protection and Brady maintains his accuracy, this offense will be almost impossible to stop. Evans, Godwin, and Brown are just too good as WRs. You can’t double them all so someone is going to be open.

  52. JimmyJack Says:

Teally liked those 1st 2 little easy passes to start that drive. Really nice call from Leftwitch to get us right in rythm…….Now its 6 in a row and now 7 marched right into endzone.

Exactlly what we needed to see.

  53. TheShaz Says:

    Consider the rust removed

  54. Wesley Says:

@Rod – It worked last year.

  55. Rod Munch Says:

DooDouche likes Chris Meyers and hates Ronde? LOL! Confirms everything dumb you’ve ever said.

  56. unbelievable Says:

    yikes, that’s a big hole

  57. PassingThru Says:

    Pass rush was neutralized

  58. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Stop talking Ronde…..please

  59. Rod Munch Says:

I don’t have an issue with running, it just doesn’t need to be so insanely predictable, on 1st and 10, up the middle. Just mix the plays some — or, if the defense isn’t adjusting, just keep throwing, don’t run for the sake of hitting a quota.

This is preseason so defenses are not gameplanning, so it’s a bit of cheat since you know the defense is going to do some simple coverages, but still, you want that to get into a flow.

  60. PassingThru Says:

Yeah, do we must Suh or what?

  61. Wesley Says:

Refs are still dumb I see.

  62. David Says:

A lot of bending but they did not break. That was a bad spot on the fourth down call

  63. Rod Munch Says:

I’m OK with no challenge on 4th, the defense needs work too.

  64. unbelievable Says:

    Run defense looking suspect

  65. BuccoDav Says:

    They confused themselves…

  66. David Says:

I think Ronde is fine, he just needs to edit better.
2 sentences, not 4! Tighten it up Ronde

  67. Buxszntkt Says:

Do we really need Suh this much ? Scary !

  68. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs are playing a very bland vanilla defense, not worried, but I also don’t think this is an elite defense so I’m not expecting shutouts every game like it’s 2002.

  69. Rod Munch Says:

Ronde is great, gives real insight since you know what he is saying is heavily influenced by what Licht thinks. Meanwhile Meyers is terrible, anyone who likes him is mentally deficient.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

Concerning to see us struggling against the run. If we go dowhill in that department this defense will struggle.

  71. BuccoDav Says:

Ingram is not what he used to be.

  72. PassingThru Says:

    TX gamble failed. Good pressure.

  73. JimmyJack Says:

If you follow this defense we are extremely stingy from from inside the 10 yardline giving up TDs……..You rarely see teams score on us from that zone. Great sign to see us come up with a stop.

  74. Rod Munch Says:

Nice stop by the defense… then again this is the worst offense in the NFL, so they should be able to stop them. But still, it’s better to get the stop than to not get the stop.

  75. PassingThru Says:

I don’t know BA’s plans for this game, but during the regular season you’d try to run up two scores and turn the Texans into a passing team.

  76. Rod Munch Says:

OMG NO RUN UP THE MIDDLE!

    SHOCKED THE DEFENSE!

Good to see a playaction pass there.

  77. Winny Testaverde Says:

Only thing worse than preseason football is Hot Rod’s running commentary/diarrhea. We all work with a know it all tough talker with zero self awareness…

  78. Rod Munch Says:

Now you can run since they don’t know what is coming. Just use the playaction to keep them off balanced. If we did that more, this WILL be a record breaking offense – as in NFL records, not just team records.

  79. Rod Munch Says:

    Watch it Testaverde, words hurt.

  80. Rod Munch Says:

Alright, I’ve seen enough. Bench all the starters, mid-series.

  81. JimmyJack Says:

Ronald Jones with nice run but Channel 8 messed up the feed.

And right now Brady has conpleted 10 of the last 10. We have confirmation that Lovie Smith is Houstons DC.

  82. Medicated Pete Says:

@ Rod Muncher takes up 95% of the timeline. I’m out

  83. Rod Munch Says:

I think that was an RPO

  84. BuccoDav Says:

    RoJo!

  85. Rod Munch Says:

Ronde just said that was an RPO. I don’t recall us running that last year, I could be forgetting it, but I like it, even if it was incomplete.

  86. unbelievable Says:

    Offense looking smooth.

There’s a 10+ yard touchdown from RoJo, just for Joe! 😜

  87. Rod Munch Says:

    Nice play by Ronnie!

The running game was opened up by the pass – that’s how you do it, we don’t need to establish the run with runs up the gut for -2 yards. Just pass, get them off balanced, and you can run at will. Just change up the order of things Leftwich, it works!

  88. Bojim Says:

Winney. You are allowed your opinion too. We all are.

  89. unbelievable Says:

Agreed, offensive starters should just about be done for the day… maybe keep the RBs and OL in for one more series just to get some more run blocking in.

  90. David Says:

This to drives have been a thing of beauty.
One was passing when was mostly running.

Serving notice to the NFL that they are coming!!
    What us to pass short?
    Want us to pass long?
    Want us to run it?
Wanna running back out of the backfield?
    Want a wide receiver?
    Want a Tight End?

    LFG

  91. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

Nah, the starters need more work. They need to nail down some of these new plays. Get the timing down, etc.

Howard needs to get more work with our starters as well.

  92. DoooshLaRue Says:

Yeah Winny, be careful or Anywho Munch is gonna tell you to go jump off the Skyway.

    A timeless classic.

  93. Rod Munch Says:

I’ve seen enough, all backups. Go out on top, nothing good can happen from here. All offense starters out, I’d take out all the defensive starters too. I know they won’t, but I would.

I don’t have any issues playing starters in the preseason, but once you’ve got into a flow, good things are happening, take them out.

  94. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

    VHIII. Thanks, Buddy!

  95. BradyBucs Says:

THIS IS OUR 2ND TEAM DEFENSE!

  96. BradyBucs Says:

They pulled our starters on Defense already.

  97. Rod Munch Says:

Doooshdooocchheee – Oh man, you and Whinny teaming up on me to explain why Chris Meyers is the best in the business. LOL! Very believable.

  98. DoooshLaRue Says:

Ronde “The Stammer” Barber ladies and gentlemen.

  99. Steven007 Says:

    Doosh, hilarious.

  100. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Chris Meyers sucks.
    Ronde is worse.

And you like getting teamed up on Fancy Man.

  101. PassingThru Says:

    Good play by Tryon.

  102. BradyBucs Says:

TRYON!!!!!! AND COMING OFF THE *RIGHT* EDGE INSTEAD!

  103. Rod Munch Says:

The defense got work, the offense got work, everything went well – I love it. Perfect game minus the blocked XP.

Tryon gets a fumble, this is great.

3 sacks in 3 games for Tryon, assuming he gets a sack there, only issue is if the QB tucks the ball it might just be a TFL.

  104. PassingThru Says:

That’s the second good play by Delaney. Ditto w/ Tryon.

  105. Wesley Says:

    Tryon looks like L.T..

  106. JimmyJack Says:

Love to see Tryon force the ball out. Hope its part of his repitore like it is with Shaq……..ha ha ha but i was rooting for us to not recover. Anxiously waiting for Darden to get a punt return. I dont think hes cutting it on kickoffs but thats fine if he can make plays on punts.

  107. Rod Munch Says:

If Gholston had held the edge on the prior drive, Tryon would have had another sack. He is a monster, at least in the preseason.

  108. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

Y’all need too put Ruby sliders on yo ass and take it one win at a time 🍻

  109. BradyBucs Says:

    GABBERT IS IN

  110. The Red Mirage Says:

    How bout 9!

  111. Rod Munch Says:

Wells totally blew his assignment there.

  112. PassingThru Says:

Glad TB12 is out. Time to take a look at the bench.

  113. BradyBucs Says:

    LOL GABBERT

  114. PassingThru Says:

Oops, or try not to look

  115. David Says:

I would love to see Trask get a chance to play with some better players.

  116. Rod Munch Says:

This is a 3-14 team if Gabbert is the QB. Everyone better pray, make pacts with the devil, do voodoo, whatever is needed to keep Brady healthy.

  117. Bangkok Buc Says:

Dear baby Jeebus. Please, please don’t let Brady get injured this year. Wow we need a backup QB

  118. TBSwarm Says:

    Gabbert is so bad

  119. JimmyJack Says:

Oh man Gabbert was angry and Darden was the target. I think the kid just messed up big time. Not doing himself any favors.

  120. PassingThru Says:

The backup OL has been death. To be fair the unit struggled with injuries.

  121. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

For the love of all that is decent, have we seen enough of Gabbert yet???

  122. TheShaz Says:

2nd string & scrubs from her on out.

    2 of the 3 Bucs O drives produced TD’s

Bucs defense allow a long drive but prevented the Texans from scoring.

Tryon is looking more and more like a steal in the draft.

  123. Jerry Says:

Backup OL has been horrific this preseason.

  124. JimmyJack Says:

Yall blaming Gabbert you might wanna pay attention to how angry he was. That and there was no reciever near the ball, looks like the wideout screwed up badly

  125. RLBuc17 Says:

Tryon just forced his will and ended that last drive. Special players do that.

  126. Rod Munch Says:

The ball was tipped way away from where Darden was, not sure how Gabbert has the balls to blame anyone else.

  127. David Says:

Tryon will lead the league in sacks at some point in his career. He’s a rookie in preseason who didn’t play last year and I have seen him make a dozen different moves while pass rushing already!
Most young pass rushers use speed or power, he does both with move upon move.
    Plus he has a motor.
    He’s going to be special.

  128. Capt.Tim Says:

Darden is not helping himself this preseason.
Gabbert was ready to kick his ass

  129. David Says:

The receiver was supposed to break inside from what Gabbert saw. Whether his judgment was correct over the receiver’s, I don’t know

  130. JimmyJack Says:

Our top unit struggled with the run tonight but if yall notice our backups have been bad all season. Our depth on DL might be more of a issue then i thought.

  131. David Says:

Darden is going to be a punt returner with a few targets during the game, not much more this year.
But he has shown a ton of potential

  132. TheShaz Says:

    Tryon with another hit.

    I like this kid

  133. Tbbucs3 Says:

Darden looks like he does not belong….getting tossed around like a rag doll.

  134. BuccaneerButters Says:

Dang! JTS9 is a beast! Davis Mills got merc’d!

  135. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Tryon is looking great.

  136. David Says:

    JimmyJack

Yeah, I don’t like Leadbetter or McLendon much.
    Nacho is pretty decent.
They definitely need to draft a DT next year.

When Suh and Vea are healthy together they just dominate the interior

  137. Winny Testaverde Says:

Hot Rod still at it eh? At least it gives his wife/husband/gimp a much needed 3 hour break. And I’m neither pro nor con Chris Meyers.

I nominate Hot Rod Munch as D. Watson’s full time massage therapist for the remainder of the season/his career.

  138. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Don’t care what happened that time. Gabbert sucks.

  139. Capt.Tim Says:

Darden not exactly great on that punt return.
Gabbert is starting to hate that kid!

  140. Bangkok Buc Says:

    Gabbert sucks ballz

  141. BradyBucs Says:

    BLAME GABBERT.

  142. David Says:

Wow. He fell on the ball in the Endzone. What a dumb ass

  143. Bucsfan81 Says:

The backups look like garbage most of them will be pumping gas come Monday.

  144. Rod Munch Says:

I do not like Gabbert, but obviously that safety isn’t on him.

Not sure about having a tackle playing center – you generally go to guard, then eventually to center – going right from tackle to center is hard and takes time.

  145. JimmyJack Says:

Bucs have gotten great experience this preseasin covering the kick after safetys.

  146. David Says:

Bad snap but The O line is fine with Hainsey and Stinney and Wells as
    the three main back ups

  147. Rod Munch Says:

I think in season the backup center would be Marpet, so this is more about getting the kid reps in game.

  148. Rod Munch Says:

    Nice play!

  149. Capt.Tim Says:

    Darden runs the wrong route.
Darden doesnt field the punt. Hainsley low snaps on the 2 yard line.
    Our 2nd string offense sucks!
They are gonna get Gabbert killed!

  150. PassingThru Says:

Mills has to put more on the ball on those throws outside the hashmarks. Welcome to the NFL kid.

  151. DoooshLaRue Says:

Ronde just said preseason games were important.

    Oh my Joe.

  152. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch that is true and I dont think the Bucs would use Hainsey at C if Jensen went down. Im betting they would slide Marpet over and use Haisey at guard if anything……Im thinking they are grooming Hainsey to be a future Center. And I dont think they would ever give Brady an inexperienced C. Jensen will be here as long as Brady is. Thats my guess

  153. PassingThru Says:

BA, can we see some Trask? I’ve already had enough of Gabbert for one evening.

  154. Rod Munch Says:

Gabbert is throwing garbage and then acting like everyone else is screwing up. What a d-bag.

  155. PassingThru Says:

Looks like Scottie Miller got shook up.

  156. VSyl Says:

    Well…Gabbert sucks…

  157. David Says:

What the hell is he throwing at?

  158. PassingThru Says:

That would be a regular season challenge.

  159. Capt.Tim Says:

Mike Edwards is a dynamic playmaker.

  160. JimmyJack Says:

Captian Tim…..I didnt see exactly where the punt hit down but it looked like it was near the 2 yard line based on the bounce.

If it did bounce on the 2 thats what most coachs teach the returner…..to let it bounce into endzone. Texans returner just did same thing. The punt went inside the 5 so he let it go.

  161. David Says:

    Tim

You’re blaming Darden for not Fielding that punt?
it was inside the five, he did the right thing.

  162. Rod Munch Says:

The Houston broadcast is showing like 10 different angles on this goal line play – while Channel 8 is showing nothing. Amateur d-bags.

  163. PassingThru Says:

    Good challenge.

  164. Rod Munch Says:

The morons at Channel 8 didn’t show it, but there was a couple of replays that showed pretty clearly he didn’t carry the ball into the endzone, the Houston broacast shows it. The Channel 8 broadcast is, every single year, just garbage. From the awfulness that is Chris Meyers, to the lack of replays, I have no idea who is producing this, but it isn’t someone who knows football.

  165. JimmyJack Says:

Would really love to see the defense hold them deep here. A kick back this far is very returnable and a chance for Darden. Its now or never.

  166. David Says:

Everyone seems to be really worried about our back ups.
    Let’s set the record straight.
With the rest of the starting line, add Stinnie, everything is fine.
Add in Wells with all the other starters everything is fine.
Take out a safety and add in Edwards, everything is fine.
Take out a corner back and add in Dean, everything is fine.
Lose a linebacker briefly and Minter steps up.
Lose a DT and Nacho or Gholston step up.
Lose a DE (olb) and Tryon looks like the real deal.
We already know they have three running backs that are capable.
And they can handle losing a receiver and/or a tight end.

The only position lacking at back up is QB. That is true for almost every single team in the NFL every year.

Their depth is outstanding. They basically go about 32 deep.

  167. Capt.Tim Says:

    Darden does have some wheels

  168. JimmyJack Says:

I like Darden on punts. Hes had a couple good ones now. The one fumble is my only concern but hes shown the ability we could use.

Kick returns have been a different story. Im hoping we get another kick return tonight……so i guess i hope they score a FG……and i hope we see somebody else get a chanse

  169. Rod Munch Says:

Wells is having a really bad night. Gave up a bad sack, gets a penalty.

  170. Anonymous Says:

Scotty is all good thank god.

  171. Bucsguy92 Says:

Omg please put in Trask with this better supporting cast. Blaine Gabbert is the most awful qb that’s ever wore a Bucs helmet . When Trask is in he just has receivers that can’t hang on . Gabbert can’t even get it to a receiver . Cut the **********

  172. Rod Munch Says:

Bernard got his feet tangled under him on that pass, just hope he’s OK. In the regular season I would not expect drops, if they happen, then Fournette is going to get a lot more playing time.

  173. AtlBuc Says:

    He dropped 2 tonight!!!

  174. Rod Munch Says:

Bad throw by the rookie, nice play by the corner.

  175. PassingThru Says:

    Pretty funny stuff

Again, Memo to Mills: Learn to throw past the hash marks. This is the NFL.

  176. Rod Munch Says:

Everything from Gabbert is short in the middle, not even looking anywhere else. He has looked like garbage again tonight.

  177. Jmarkbuc Says:

How is kickoff returner a big deal? At least 85 % of kickoffs are touchbacks.

  178. Rod Munch Says:

For as bad as this game has seemed, outside of the 2 Brady drives, the Bucs are up 15-2. That’s pretty amazing how that works.

  179. David Says:

    Love BA!!

  180. BradyBucs Says:

    GIOVANNI BUSTNARD

  181. Rod Munch Says:

What an amazing question by the Channel 8 dweb… did you like Brady going 7-for-7…

    Stunning insight, thanks for that.

  182. JimmyJack Says:

Ill tell ya what Blaine looked pretty nice there in that little 1 minute offense there……..All around that 2nd team offense was ugly all over but that was a nice rebound to come up with the late FG.

  183. PassingThru Says:

Gabbert has poor awareness whether it’s pressure or making a read after the snap. Hard to imagine him once being an early first round pick.

  184. BradyBucs Says:

Please don’t let Griffin play more than one series. He won’t even make the normal roster. Trask is the future, get him more experience NOW because he won’t be getting into regular season games.

  185. Rod Munch Says:

Gabbert on that last drive just threw it down the middle for short yardage, not even looking for the TD, using up all the available time. That’s not what I want from a veteran QB in this offense. You should be playing for a TD, not playing for a FG. He gets no credit from me.

  186. David Says:

I am kind of sick of hearing how Bernard “catches everything, that’s not him.” I’ve seen him drop every ball thrown to him except 2 this entire preseason.

I have no problem with Darden returning punts/ kicks. The guy is explosive and pretty sure handed.

A big concern… Still… Is punt and kick off coverage. They better kick them for a touch back and punt it out of bounds because so far not much has changed for most of the preseason when compared to last year‘s horrific coverage

  187. BradyBucs Says:

Gabbert is TERRIBLE. There’s a reason no one wanted him as a starter.

Arians needs to wake up. He’s a terrible backup. We hope Brady stays healthy all season. He should with solid protection on the OL which has been great.

  188. David Says:

As much as most of us want Trask to play with some better players, I bet you Gabbert comes in for another quarter because if Brady goes down, he’s the back up and
    he
    needs
    some
    work

  189. Al Pastor Says:

    That Joe Tryon is legit

  190. Bojim Says:

Winney. Talk about football and not your insecurities.

  191. BradyBucs Says:

Bernard so far has been a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.

When we signed him it seemed like we added another WEAPON to our Offense and he’d be an unstoppable 3rd down back.

    He’s looked terrible so far.

  192. Bucsguy92 Says:

I’d rather have check down king Mike Glennon than fricken Blaine Gabbert. If Tom Brady goes down we will lose every game he is out . Bruce defending him at halftime lol , we need to make a move to get an insurance policy would not cost much . The Eagles picked up Minshew for a 6th rd pick .

  193. DBS Says:

Not hard if you are really looking. Almost appears like the backups don’t even want to play with Gabbert.

  194. BradyBucs Says:

    David,

I think Gabbert is done for the night. BA & Byron know what they have in Gabbert. He is what he is.

What they don’t yet know is what ceiling Trask has. You don’t use a 2nd round pick on a QB unless you think he’s the future.

Arians is no dummy. If Trask were to progress quickly, he’d have no hesitation in having him potentially play if there was ever an issue with Brady and if Gabbert continues to struggle.

  195. Rod Munch Says:

People getting their panties in a wad over Bernard… if he drops passes in the regular season, he won’t be playing. But he also has an entire career to look at that goes beyond this preseason. Why people are so eager to want Buccaneers to fail is beyond me. The guy is a huge asset to the Bucs if he plays like he’s always played his entire career.

  196. BradyBucs Says:

    In Gabbert’s defense…

He’s not playing with our starting line or receivers. If he’s given a little better protection (that our starters would give him) and if he’s throwing to Evans/Godwin/Brown… my guess is he’d look a bit better.

I still don’t care for him, though.

  197. Rod Munch Says:

Tryon is still in there? NOOO!!! Get him out.

  198. Bojim Says:

This is the reason that Gabbert is not a starter.

  199. Jbeachbuc Says:

Gabbert = garbage .If Brady goes down , wishbone till SB

  200. JimmyJack Says:

Bernard should be expected to make those catches…..Aside from that I have noticed him as a blocker and hes been really good picking up the passrusher.

And I forgive the drop he had on 3rd and 17…….His job here is to try and convert 1st downs so on that down and distance securing the catch is less of an issue as his focus shifts to turning the play upfield……he will never make a conversion if he looks the ball all the way in. Its a basic throwaway play and if he managed to make a single first down from that down and distance it makes up for any drops hes had on similar plays.

  201. JimmyJack Says:

Gabberts fine. Hes actually had a decent preseason.

  202. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – The 2nd drop by Bernard, if you see the replay, he’s getting his feet caught on the rug, that’s what it looked like to me. He’s got his feet tangled as the ball gets there, it’s also why he got up slow.

He’s been know as one of the best pass catching RBs in football and he’s not at the age where he’d suddenly be washed up. Also everything I’ve heard in practice says he’s looked fantastic.

If he’s screws up in the regular season then they’ll cut him – it’s not like Arians has any issues sitting guys who drop balls. He’s not going to get playing time just because they want to justify his veteran min salary.

  203. JimmyJack Says:

K.J. Britt had a very similar play against Cincinnati but wiffed on tackle. Made the play tonight and has looked good this game. This kid is developing nicely and I expect will make the team……..That said #53 made a good play on special teans so maybe its a tough call by the team.

  204. Bucsguy92 Says:

Bruce change the depth chart exhibit one .

  205. Rod Munch Says:

Trask is being haunted by the ghost of Chris Chandler.

  206. BradyBucs Says:

    PROPS TO BA.

For giving Trask the 2nd half and not wasting any time with Griffin who has to know he’s not making the 53.

  207. PassingThru Says:

    That was an ugly exchange.

  208. Rod Munch Says:

Even the Texans know not to kick it from the 2… Out special teams coach needs to be fired for not knowing the rules, I’ll never let that go. Why it wasn’t a bigger deal, I don’t get.

  209. Rod Munch Says:

I can’t believe the OJ haters didn’t try to blame Howard for that fumble. I was waiting for them to say it was his fault, and so far nothing. Very disappointing.

  210. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Trask has god awful footwork.

  211. JimmyJack Says:

Rod I did notice Bernard running funny on that drop. Actually worried he got hurt. But it didnt look like nobody was around him so it looked to me like a lame effort to adjust to the pass.

Just didnt look good but i agree with you that it isnt a big deal if he plays well under Brady. I think we as fans naturally think the coachs will use preseason evaluation to judge Gio but as a long time pro whose been around Im certain the coachs will ultimately tryst in his track record.

  212. Tbbucs3 Says:

Keyshawn Vaughn…time to start looking for a new job!

  213. PassingThru Says:

    Not Vaughn’s night.

  214. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Our backups have looked awful for all 3 weeks

  215. Rod Munch Says:

    Oooof.

  216. Swampbuc Says:

Pray to almighty baby Jesus that Tom Brady doesn’t get hurt.

Goobert is so bad it’s not funny. Sucks derwangus.

  217. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs should try to trade for Watson. I’d give up three 1st if we could get Houston to eat the salary. Even if he’s suspended for a year, that’s OK. Just make the deal conditional so if he goes to prison they get nothing.

  218. BradyBucs Says:

    KYLE FREAKIN TASK, MOFOS.

  219. Bucsguy92 Says:

    LFG Trask > Gabbert

  220. JimmyJack Says:

I feel like we got our punt return guy with Darden but what in the world are we doing on kickoffs? The fact that Vaugh is still getting the chances is maybe more concerning then the fact that he gagged up the ball!!

  221. Rod Munch Says:

Nice drive by Trask! He has some time, and guys aren’t dropping everything, he looks pretty good.

  222. Bucsfan81 Says:

    Trask > Gabbert

  223. PassingThru Says:

Look out Tommy Boy, Trask is gunning for your job!

  224. Swampbuc Says:

Rod’s been munching some peyote apparently.

  225. Tbbucs3 Says:

    “Trask > Gabbert”

Based on 1 drive? Lol please.

  226. BradyBucs Says:

Anyone that can’t see Trask has great potential is BLIND.

  227. RLBuc17 Says:

    And down goes Griffin!

  228. BradyBucs Says:

Tbbucs3 is obviously an FSU fan.

  229. Rod Munch Says:

Pretty much all kickoffs go through the endzone, and we already had one of the worst kickoff returners anyways, so it’s not like it’s going to be worse so long as whoever we have out there doesn’t fumble.

With that said I’d gladly trade for a top return guy if you can get one for a 3rd rounder.

But we’ll also see who gets cut.

  230. firethecannons Says:

my lord are they talking prison for that guy now?
Watson was careless and probably stupid too–should never of put himself in the position he finds himself in now.

  231. Wild Bill Says:

Trask just made Gabbert look like a wimp!

  232. Swampbuc Says:

    Norm Snead >> Blame Goobert

  233. SlyPirate Says:

Time to promote Trask to #2. Make the investment and reap the rewards.

  234. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Looking great on that drive…Trask got protection

  235. JimmyJack Says:

Really cool to see Trask drive the ba 80 yards. Makes you feel like hes developing just fine to see him come out with his best drive after 2 questionable performances.

  236. David Says:

Trask looked Pretty good with a little blocking and some receivers holding onto the ball!

  237. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trask has had 1 nice drive all pre season against a Texans bubble defense. Put him in the HOF!

  238. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,

    Two questionable performances? LOLZ.

Like throwing long darts to Hudson and have him fumble the ball? Or our 4th string O-Line not giving him much time?

Trask has played just fine and made some solid throws with what he’s had to work with.

If Trask played with our starting O-Line and Evans/Godwin/Brown he’d TEAR IT UP. Dude has amazing accuracy and his reads are fantastic.

  239. Rod Munch Says:

Why is Chris Meyers standing so close to Ronde? Creep.

  240. RLBuc17 Says:

Tbbucs: I don’t think anyone said that Trask was the next Brady. Relax brother.

  241. BradyBucs Says:

    TBBUCS3 = GATOR HATER

  242. DBS Says:

Winstons lover does not show up all night until Trask plays.

  243. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch our kickoffs are worse based on what ive seen out of Vaugn. Im really shocked he is still the guys taking kicks based on how lousy he has looked already.

This might be nitpicky but thats the benefit of being World Champions.

  244. BradyBucs Says:

I like you Trask-Haters apparently didn’t watch his other preseason activity. He had terrible lines blocking for him yet threw some great passes. Many that were DROPPED. McPearson or whatever they dude’s name is dropped TWO that literally hit him in both hands.

    T R A S K = F U T U R E P R O – B O W L E R

  245. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Much…..I call them cookies and cream.

  246. David Says:

Licht needs to have his people scouring The waiver wire for DTs.
After Suh and Vea, Nacho Showed last year to be a good back up. After that they have nothing

  247. David Says:

^^^Might be the thinnest are on the team

  248. Rod Munch Says:

Trask isn’t playing this year, if he does, it means the Bucs are playing for the #1 overall pick, because it would only happen if Brady got hurt and Gabbert was so bad they were forced to bench him. I do not want to see that. I’m not down on Trask, but he is nowhere near NFL ready right now. When plays breakdown he goes back to those soft loft college passes which are all getting intercepted when you’re not playing against future UPS workers. He needs a couple of years of seasoning before I think you’d even consider playing him — which is OK, he is a developmental QB, if he wasn’t, he’d have been a 1st round pick.

  249. Swampbuc Says:

Dudes are trying to get cut. Man, you know the Texans can’t throw the ball, boys, stack up and play run defense, stay in your gaps!

  250. Tbbucs3 Says:

Couldn’t care less about about what school a player came from.

Trask has bad footwork, a weak arm and there’s a reason he was not a highly valued prospect.

    He’s not the future.

  251. DoooshLaRue Says:

I bet you wish you were that close to Ronde Munch.

You sound like a jealous school girl.

  252. RLBuc17 Says:

I don’t know about nowhere near NFL ready. Let me ask you a legit question. Has Mills looked better than Trask?

  253. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

GIVE ME A BREAK. Trask literally had several plays already breakdown and he’s bought time and delivered solid passes.

You’re only latching onto that floated long pass that let Darden run under it because he was open deep after Trask scrambled.

  254. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Why is Vaughn returning kicks?

  255. Bucsguy92 Says:

The hyperbole is quite humorous lol . No one is saying he’s Tom , but at least he can get throw the ball to our playmakers just need some serviceable if he goes down . Gabbert and Griffin are scrubs .

  256. David Says:

    Rod Munch.

I agree. Trask has potential but he is nowhere near ready. That’s why I said I wouldn’t mind seeing him play a couple series in a blowout in a fourth quarter. Just because I would like to see him get that experience with some better players as opposed to guys trying to hang onto a practice squad ticket.

All that said, Brady is smart, knows when to go down, knows when to get rid of the ball, gets rid of it quick, and has an outstanding O line… Please stay healthy….

  257. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trask is not better than Blaine Gabbert……that’s a fact.

  258. A Real American Says:

Blaine is getting no support from the team. Blaine is the best QB on the team and they’re putting him in a no win situation.

  259. JimmyJack Says:

BradyBucs…….Yeah, fair or not the 1st two games were questionable. Thats just what happens when you get blanked on the scoreboard.

Im a big fan of the Trask pick and I understand the players around him havent been good but when you got 20% completion percent there are gonna be question marks…….I though he could put together a TD drive but Im lying if i say I saw it coming.

Look im happy to see that he looks to be get a good handle on running this offense. Whats wrong with that?

  260. BradyBucs Says:

    Tbbucs3,

Weak arm? LOL. That has DEBUNKED. Did you not see the bullet he threw to Hudson in the 1st preseason game? His arm strength is fine. He clearly throws at 80% strength to control his accuracy. Unlike your boy Winston he throws almost every throw as hard as he can and has terrible accuracy.

  261. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trask is better than Ryan Griffen but that’s a very low bar.

I like how some of you are willing to write off a very experienced and valued backup that Gabbert is just because Trask has made a few good plays in preseason against the backup Texans.

  262. David Says:

As bad as Gabbert looked, he doesn’t always look that bad. Definitely better than Griffin. Trask is long-term with a lot of potential.
If they have to use Gabbert for a game or two, they are talented enough to get through it.

The big thing I see with him is he tries to gun everything in there as hard as he can or looks too dump it short over the middle too quickly.
He’s got so many playmakers, someone needs to whisper in his ear all he has to do is be a game manager if he does have to play

  263. David Says:

    That was on Trask

  264. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – the loft passes I was talking about was last week, nothing about this game so far. In college he did that all the time, and when things break down, he’s reverting back to that. Which is OK, he’s a rookie, I don’t expect him to be polished when he’s the last pick of the 2nd round. That isn’t an insult, no one should expect rookies to be finished products.

  265. Swampbuc Says:

There are Texas high school teams that could beat the Texans.

  266. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,

It’s hard to lead scoring drives when your receivers drop balls that hit them in the hands. Even BA has said Trask is coming along nicely and made some great decisions and great passes in his limited playing time with scrubs.

  267. RLBuc17 Says:

    Real,
Did you just say Blaine was the best QB on the team??!

  268. Tbbucs3 Says:

Great play Trask! Future HOF……oh wait hold onto the damn ball.

  269. Craig Says:

By mid-season Trask will be number 2. He has progressed well and Gabbert hasn’t.

After all Gabbert was replaced with Blake Bortles.

  270. A Real American Says:

The Bucs need to respect the GOPT: Blaine Gabbert
    (Greatest of Part Time)

  271. Kentucky Buc Says:

Traskers vs the anti Traskers on here .

  272. BradyBucs Says:

Trask was hit by BOTH DE’s. Not one, BOTH. The line is at fault, clearly.

  273. Rod Munch Says:

You guys thinking Trask will overtake Gabbert are nuts. Arians LOVES Gabbert, I don’t know why, but he LOVES him.

  274. SlyPirate Says:

Stop the Gabbert love. He’s garbage. He won’t be on the team next year.

    Invest in Trask.

  275. David Says:

The biggest disappointment I have seen throughout the preseason has been Vaughn.

He flashed a lot last year and I thoroughly thought he would be stepping up running and receiving this year.
So far he’s not looked good, at all.
I don’t see the explosiveness we saw last year and he’s dropped balls.

Fortunately they brought Bernard in to be the third down back.
Unfortunately I’ve seen him drop as many balls as Rojo and Lenny usually do.

  276. JimmyJack Says:

BradyBucs and I agree Trask is developing nicely. But hes got some stuff to work on and it clear. Like that fumble. This is a good learning experience

  277. Tbbucs3 Says:

    BradyBucs

You seem to be reaching for excuses for Trask at this point. There’s no excuse for any fumble in football period.

  278. Buxszntkt Says:

3rd round Mills versus 2nd round Trask !

  279. Tbbucs3 Says:

Blaine Gabbert is not terrible….he’s average…..that’s what you want from your backup.

  280. BradyBucs Says:

Rod, I wouldn’t be so sure. Gabbert has looked very “off” the entire preseason. If he’s looking the same way in practice, and Trask progresses quickly in practice for the entire season, I could see Trask potentially surpassing Gabbert on the depth chart, maybe. Arians would probably feel better going to a backup veteran QB no matter what, though, God forbid Brady can’t play.

  281. David Says:

    Sly pirate

We know he is garbage, but he is better than Trask at this point. There’s no reason to rush Trask, he could be the future.

If he has to play one or two games, with this starting offense, Gabbert should be fine

  282. Swampbuc Says:

Lots of mushrooms being eatne tonight

  283. JimmyJack Says:

Blaine is the best non Brady QB on the team at this time. If you dont see that God help you.

  284. BradyBucs Says:

    Tbbucs3,

You must be new to football. If a lineman blows an assignment badly and your QB gets crushed, that’s hardly the QB’s fault should he fumble.

  285. RLBuc17 Says:

Trask was the last pick of the 2nd round Bux. Calm down.

  286. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – I think Gabbert is trash and would trade for a real backup, but I’m just saying Arians LOVES Gabbert and isn’t going to dump him for someone else. Also, from a salary standpoint, the Bucs don’t have any real options unless they can get someone else to eat salary.

  287. JimmyJack Says:

Why are the Texans playing for a tie? Honestly bite me.

  288. Tbbucs3 Says:

    BradyBucs

Ridiculous statement. Never have heard a coach excuse a fumble. EVER!

  289. unbelievable Says:

LOL did doosh really say Meyers was better than Ronde?

  290. David Says:

SMH someone up above is actually comparing mills and Trask based on a couple drives in a preseason game LOL
It’s pretty astonishing to me how many so-called football fans have no clue how irrelevant most of preseason is.

BA keeps telling you what’s important in preseason, the starters playing to get a little game speed going. Otherwise most of it is all about evaluating a bunch of guys trying to make the team. And it’s not about playing as a cohesive unit, it’s about the individual player and effort because they don’t know the offense and defense yet so that’s all they can really show.

  291. David Says:

    Mickens is worthless

  292. JimmyJack Says:

Did i miss it or has Fournette not played tonight? Meanwhile Ronald had am impact. Seems bizarre.

  293. Rod Munch Says:

unbelievable – Dooossschheee said he LOVES Chris Meyers. Literally the first time anyone has ever said that.

  294. Tbbucs3 Says:

The #19 Bucs jersey is cursed for kickers.

  295. David Says:

    JimmyJack.
I saw Lenny catch one pass.
Rojo definitely played more but Lenny played more last week it seems

  296. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – I think Fournette was in on the second drive but they were just throwing it every play.

  297. Wesley Says:

Special teams has been and continues to be our Achilles heel.

  298. PassingThru Says:

OK, remind me why we’ve retained the special teams coach.

  299. Kyle Says:

Sorry but Vaughn is garbage.. Trask has looked very impressive playing with uber drivers, plummers and future strip club djs. Special teams look very plain..

  300. David Says:

Special teams NEEDS to step up.
All of it. Kick off coverage, punt coverage, kick off return blocking, blocking for the extra points and kicks….

  301. Rod Munch Says:

The special teams have been awful. I’m serious, I’d fire the special teams coach. From that nonsense of kicking the XP from the 2, to just how bad they’ve been, how bad they were last year… I’d fire someone.

  302. PassingThru Says:

    @JimmyJack

I believe Fournette had a catch with the first team.

  303. JimmyJack Says:

The fumble was not necessarily Kyles fault but the QB can for sure feel that pressure and learn to avoid that fumble…….But its nothing to harp on Trask about, thats the benefit he has at being a developement. He has time on his side. Lets hope he puts it to good use.

  304. Tbbucs3 Says:

Fire the special teams coach 10 days before the first NFL game?

I get he may not be a great coach but I mean cmon that’d be absurd.

  305. Jerry Says:

Remember everyone claiming we didn’t have a weakness? We do have one… special teams.

  306. JimmyJack Says:

Thanks guys. I guess im the only one who missed Leonard. This is why i only chat during preseason. I too slow to type and pay attention to game.

  307. Rod Munch Says:

While this game has been sloppy, it’s been 100,000,000,000x better than what we saw last week, which might have been the worst, most boring Bucs game I’ve ever seen.

  308. Rod Munch Says:

Tbbucs3 – Do you think special teams would be worse? Last year they had the worst kickoff coverage in the history of the NFL. They can’t return anything worth anything. They always get kicks blocked. The special teams is not good. Fire someone, make an example, make sure people understand you’re not going to be complacent.

  309. Tbbucs3 Says:

If your gonna fire a coach (coming off a Super Bowl victory)…..you do that in the off-season, not with under 2 weeks to go before week 1.

  310. SlyPirate Says:

At this point it’s the special teams coach. Licht needs to step in and remove him for AB. We saw this BS loyalty with Smith.

    NFL – not for long

  311. Tbbucs3 Says:

And Id say kickoff coverage is very low on the list of priorities for a football team…..Ryan Succop was great last year….that’s the more important part.

  312. Izod Says:

If Trask really maxes out his potential, he can be a near above average backup QB in this league.

  313. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Again, thes constant runs up the middle on 1st down

  314. Rod Munch Says:

Tbbucs3 – I would have fired him in the offseason. The Bucs won the SB despite the special teams. Also, when you’re kicking an XP from the 2, when you don’t know the rules, someone should pay. I have no idea how the coach lasted through that, how people don’t think that’s a big deal. Also the Bucs would be promoting someone within, not bringing in a new system. But someone should pay, the special teams needs to be shaken up before they cost us games.

  315. David Says:

I just saw the funniest thing… A backup to the backup to the backup running back for the Texans gets s good run then does the “spoon feed me, Zeke from the cowboys” move afterwards. 😂

  316. JimmyJack Says:

3rd and 5 Trask had a chance to ice the game……Dont know what that pass was. Was it tipped?

As big a Trask fan as I am that play was very questionable to me.

Hes shown some nice talent but he has a long way to go. I know it sucks to wait so long but I think we gotta wait a full year til next preseason to know if Trask is capable of running this offense. Like Bruce has said it takes a while to master his offense……Thats not uncommon. Remember Gruden? There was a reason why he didnt like kid QBs.

  317. RLBuc17 Says:

It’s going to be a special year. Enjoy it.

  318. PassingThru Says:

Man Dee Delaney is having a helluva night.

  319. Rod Munch Says:

That beard does not look good on Lovie. He’s got some bad advice on that.

  320. Kyle Says:

Lovie Smith just said he was.. very disappointed…

  321. Buxszntkt Says:

    Lol izod, time will tell

  322. Rod Munch Says:

Why doesn’t anyone run up the score? These scrubs should be trying to get a TD, 90% of them will never get another chance, why rob them of a chance of that? I hate this ‘sportsmanship’ garbage.

  323. RLBuc17 Says:

In MADDEN You have to turn off the salary cap to build/have the this team.

  324. Buxszntkt Says:

Is this Griffin’s last walk off an NFL field as a Buc ?

  325. Kyle Says:

Loving will be Tennessee ready! Just saw his former Illinois team blow out Nebraska today. He is a terrible head coach. Like Tampa, Illinois was awful while he led the team.

  326. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch because its not sportsmanship. Its hunger to win at any costs.

  327. SlyPirate Says:

I feel like the Bucs ST coach could watch a couple YouTube videos and get instantly better at special teams

  328. JimmyJack Says:

Rod also the game is over so can you please give us the Winston update now?

  329. Buxszntkt Says:

Rod, I think BA feels he’s seen enough and is ready to head home , beat the storm. Why have them go for more at this point, cuts are likely all set.

  330. BradyBucs Says:

    WE CAN ALL AGREE…

TRASK WILL BE THE BEST BUCS-DRAFTED BUCCANEER QB EVER.

    #BLESSED

  331. Buxszntkt Says:

Watch the hugging TB, don’t need you gettting COVID.

  332. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,
