Adam Schefter On Dak Prescott: “He May Not Be Back”

August 21st, 2021

Lingering shoulder problem?

Joe continues to monitor the Bucs’ Week 1 opponent, the Cowboys, because Opening Night is quickly creeping up on us (thankfully).

Just as former Cowboys great Michael Irvin hinted at weeks ago, it sure is starting to smell like the Cowboys are trying to cover up some sort of medical issue with star quarterback Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys’ $126 million dollar man has had issues with his throwing shoulder all offseason. The Cowboys keep pushing back the date the team expects him to return to the field — other than warmups and taking shotgun snaps on the sideline.

This, combined with what Irvin saw from Prescott at a recent practice, has led Irvin to accuse his team of hiding a major injury.

Well, the last we heard about Prescott was Dallas has set his return for Week 1 against the Bucs on Thursday Night Football on Sept. 9.

Now Adam Schefter, the uber BSPN insider, has thrown cold water on that. Speaking at halftime of the worthless Chiefs-Cardinals preseason game last night, Schefter said of Prescott, “He’s not fully back, he may not be back all season long.”

Whoa.

We all know Prescott rearranged his ankle against the Giants in Week 5 and was lost for last season. The creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, speculates trying to overcompensate for his ankle injury may have led to Prescott’s throwing shoulder issues.

This makes all the sense in the world. It happens all the time in baseball when a pitcher has a leg or foot injury of some sort, their shoulder or elbow gets out of whack because the leg/foot injury screws with their throwing mechanics.

So if Prescott can’t go against the Bucs, this ought to be a slam dunk win right out of the gate for the pewter pirates.

Even if Prescott does play against the Bucs, how effective could he be with a bum shoulder? (Think Drew Brees in the playoffs last year when his arm was so shot, the slimy Saints had to use Jameis Winston to throw long passes).

Joe’s going to text his short-term investment broker right now.

I hate these praying for injury articles. It’s a defeatist mentality

  2. Bird Says:

    Thats crazy

They will not rush him back even if he plays this season
Invested too much money to throw down toilet
Its jerry though so who knows

  3. Player 1 Says:

I dont see that article anywhere near as being defeatist. Particularly as the Bucs already have a touchdown lead on the spread WITH Prescott as starter. If you dont want an article talking about our first opponents QB situation, I dont know what to telll ya

  4. Joe Says:

Joe isn’t “praying” for any injury.

You don’t think it’s remotely relevant if Prescott plays or not against the Bucs?

Interestingly, Joe doesn’t remember any Bucs fan crying for the Chiefs playing the Super Bowl with o-line injuries “praying” that they were 100 percent for the game. Or anyone wearing out a rosary that Drew Brees’ arm was fully functional last January.

  5. Jerry Says:

I’d rather play against Prescott. The Bucs have an absolutely horrific history against back-up QBs. Even just recently as the Washington wild card game last year.

  6. Steven007 Says:

I’d rather play against Prescott too. Though I respect every team, the Cowboys don’t exactly worry me. We do have a strange history against backups. But in this case I figure they will try to run the ball at least 60% of the time with Elliot. Frankly they probably would have tried that with Prescott as well. Given the fact that he’s hobbled and rusty. Of course if we got an early lead like I would hope they won’t be trying to run the ball 60% of the time…

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Jerry’s point is a good one. That Washington QB (second career start) almost derailed the Bucs. He played lights out – and/or our pass D was terrible.

  8. BillyBucoff Says:

Yeah but you have to think those horrible outings against backups is over.
I know it was recent but Devin White was out and others had injuries against WFT.

Every team has bad games on the back end. They just don’t cost the game.

Even with that horrible game, and giving up a stupid trick play to JayMiss, and Brady throwing 3 picks, this team finds a way to win.

Unless of course it’s against KC and then there was no figuring to it.

  9. BillyBucoff Says:

So who all is going to the game. I live in Texas but just found out me and 3 coworkers will be in Orlando that week for work.

    Just bought tickets Thursday.
Im so pumped for the 1st home game since the Super Bowl.
Sitting in one of the corners.

  10. Biff Barker Says:

I believe Jerry Jones deserves karma.
The way he treated Jimmy Johnson was awful. Jimmy was the architect of the Cowboys resurgence and may have been the best personnel evaluator in the modern day IMO.
The way he treated Tom Landry was inexcusable. Tom Landry’s multiple innovations had a massive impact on the NFL.
Jerry should have stuck to oil. His son Steven must have inherited the genius gene from daddio.$126M for a banged up QB? Dak has won as much as Romo did.
Jerry is a blowhard with a crappy overpaid team.

  11. Buczilla Says:

This just further illustrates the utter incompetence of this cowboys franchise ever since they let Jimmy Johnson go. Vastly overpaying for above average Dak was bad enough. Vastly overpaying for above average broke a$$ Dak is downright criminal to the obnoxious (nothing personal, just from a football sense) cowboys fans.

Dallas didn’t have a prayer in this game even if they had their entire 95 roster in their prime, so unless they trade for Taylor Heinicke, they are toast.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s simply human nature to wish ill will to your opponents….anyone who claims they aren’t pleased by troubles with the Cowboys really isn’t being intellectually honest.
Now, that’s different than wanting us to beat their best…..

  13. ClodHopper Says:

The NFL deserves this to be a non competitive game anyways since they put the Cowboys on opening night. Something like 20-3 by halftime then a scoreless second half. Exciting for us still but bad for ratings.

  14. Lamarcus Says:

This isn’t good news for the Bucs until we can stop a backup Qb. I rather have Dak playing because I don’t wanna see a unknown backup qb looking like Peyton Manning on our defense

  15. Buc1987 Says:

    Easy win….. with or without!

  16. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Doesn’t matter if Prescott plays, the Bucs should outright win anyways.

  17. Tackleblockwin Says:

The Cowboys have a good offense. We will see if their D has improved at all. I’m hoping Dak plays. For now the Bucs D will have to prepare for 2 different Cowboy QBs.

  18. ModHairKen Says:

He was never that good. They have him that contract not knowing if he’d ever return to form. When you put that much money into one player, you will suffer.

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Nobody wants to see a player injured and out. Lets hope Dak gets healthy. I would prefer whippin them with Dak than without him. Either way is fine. But I’m not one of these who roots for opposition injuries. Hopefully his injurty is not that bad and he will be ready to go against us.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

    Yup.

The “second MRI” was the tell.

You don’t get a 2nd unless there is a question of the healing process.

And Joe is correct about one injury causing another. I had a knee that was not responding well to post-surgical therapy that affected my natural walking motion. That knee ended up causing issues in the same hip. It took almost two years to get both back to normal.

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

Jerry: The Bucs had a hard time beating ANY team in the lost decade, backup or not. I didn’t see the backup from Detroit light up the Bucs last year. Either you have a good team or not, and the Bucs have a good team now.

  22. Hodad Says:

Hodad has the Bucs D in fantasy..Go eat dogs!!

    @Joe Says:
“Joe isn’t “praying” for any injury…..
…Interestingly, Joe doesn’t remember any Bucs fan crying for the Chiefs playing the Super Bowl with o-line injuries ……”
    ———————
100% agreed… we were praying for them NOT to play, and every time they were chasing Mahomes, most of us were hoping they “Kick his a$$”. That is the honest truth. Every game day I wish that the best players of opposite team are not playing,(don’t care for the reason, don’t wish any specific reason). I want my team to WIN no matter how. That’s it. 🧛‍♀️

  24. Buxszntkt Says:

Don’t think the QB will matter that much although we do have a bad hx, with backups. I just googled Derek Anderson the other day. I remember him making the Bucs his Biotch a couple of times when Cam got injured. You get psyched the Bucs will kick butt against a backup and it ends up us getting our buts whooped, lol.

  25. Don Fooshee Says:

Your right, Dak has to play so we can whip up on you losers down there in that hokey pirate ship thingy! You guys don’t know it yet but the Boys are going to tack on your first loss!

  26. Cobraboy Says:

I take greater satisfaction in beating a team at full strength and a wounded team.

Don’t get me wrong: I just want the Bucs to win. But some wins come with an * in my mind.

  27. Cobraboy Says:

The SB win was fantastic but would have been even more fantastic had the Chefs been at full-strength across the OL.

  28. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

I find the article very relevant. Reach out to your Short Term Investment Broker and put on Tampa minus the points.

  29. Marvelouss Says:

I love it when Cowboys opponent fans are over confident and celebrating victory when the game has yet to be played. I was at Cowboys practice in Frisco last week. Day was throwing 30-40 yard zingers on a dime. Sure doesn’t appear to be a “season ending” injury to me. This is another title for the clicks.

  30. PSL Bob Says:

Buxszntkt, I totally agree. Seems like we go through this year after year. An opponent’s QB is injured and so we’re reportedly in good shape, as we’ll go against that team’s backup QB. More often than not the backup gives us fits. Or someone pontificates that we’re going against a rookie QB, so it should be easy picking, and we struggle. We’re the friging SB champs. I’ve always said, give us your best shot. Never good karma to get excited about injuries to an opponent!

  31. Infomeplease Says:

I really don’t care if DP plays balls out or warms the bench. I really believe the result will be the same. The first W for the BUCS!!! LET’S GO BUCS!!! These 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stringer games are killing me!!! Bring on the Cowboys!!!!!!

  32. Joe Says:

This is another title for the clicks.

So you are saying Adam Schefter is a con artist?

  33. Chuck Williams Says:

Do you ever get tired of just lying your ass off? Very sad and probably a very lonely person. And just have to post to have a life. Sounds like the people on facebook. And spreading rumors of false news. Dak Is fine. It Is all false I live In Dallas and know better. And the second mri was to prove nothing is wrong. He can get an mri anytime he wants. It does not cost him one penny. Grow up people. And stop with the lies.

  34. gp Says:

It seems we’ve been joined by a couple cowgirl fans!

Welcome to a real fan site girls!

  35. Chris Says:

Just make sure that Tom Brady, gronkowski and brown have plenty of Geritol on the sideline.

  36. Bobby M. Says:

Gamesmanship….Cowboys are looking for any strategic angle they can get. Prescott is multi-dimensional QB….they’re back up…not so much.

  37. Devin DiPalma Says:

Hey joe, article on NFL.com today contradicts this report. Thought you might want to take a look. Either way, play or not I’m not worried about Prescott and the cowboys lol

  38. Jbeachbuc Says:

    #per Adam Schefter..

  39. SKBucsFan Says:

I’d rather he plays against the Bucs. Our defense seems to play soft against back up QB’s. The 3rd stringer from WTF looked like a pro-bowler against the Bucs last post season.

  40. DEM BOYZ Says:

Dak is only being held out of the preseason. He will start week 1. They write these titles for clicks you suckers. He’ll be fine.
