Stoking The Retirement Chatter

July 3rd, 2021

Deciphering options.

Joe has learned the past 16 months or so that Tom Brady talking in a national forum makes headlines every time.

Because it is Tom Freaking Brady.

So when the park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback said on HBO’s “The Shop” that he senses the end is near, as in the end of his playing days, it got the folks up in Bristol all jazzed up.

So naturally, several shows by the four-letter tackled this subject, trying to decipher when Brady calls it quits.

One of the very few reporters out there that can call himself a Brady-insider, Jeff Darlington of BSPN, the pride of Seminole High School, was peppered with questions earlier this week about what kind of intel he has on Brady’s career plans.

Darlington joked it all sounds creepy and dark talking about “the end,” but Darlington admitted he has an inside hunch about Brady’s immediate plans.

“Yes, he is eventually going to retire,” Darlington began. “And we are all going to die, too. It’s like a morbid subject but the end always comes. This is what happens.

“From Tom Brady, I remember a couple of years ago asking him, ‘Yeah, are you going to retire this year?’ And he’s like, ‘Why does everybody want me to retire so bad?’

“And now he says this [about the end] and we are like, ‘Wait a second! It’s eventually going to end?’ Yes it is going to end. To be very clear here, I don’t think it ends after this year. This past season people were telling me Tom was already talking about 2022.”

Darlington added if he had to guess, Brady will retire with the Bucs following the completion of his current contract, which expires after the 2022 season.

Brady long ago said he wanted to play until he was 45. He will turn 45 next August during 2022 training camp.

TB12 retires from the Bucs after this season.

    +5,000, +40 TDs, -8 INT
    MVP (assuming NFL’s best record)
Super Bowl #8. One for each finger.

He’ll leave the Bucs and sign a ten-day contract with the Patriots and retire a Pat.

That’s how The Goat should ride off into the sunset.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

Yes everyone dies some day. They thought he was dead at 43 at the beginning and then he changed a long time dumpster fire into a historical for the ages Super Bowl winning team in one year 2020 A.D. ✌🏽

I’d say a slight chance if we win the Super Bowl this year, but this guy is always striving for perfection and never to quit. He looks damn healthy to me so I honestly would think it’s a Gisele timeline at some point before he thinks he could leave the game.

Here’s a thought. There’s no need for a discussion about the magic in the Bucs front office. Jason gets things done and it’s straight business but also class. If he does retire in the next two years, Bruce retires with him and, if willing, give Brady a sizable amount of money to become OC or even HC. The beginning of the “I sh!t on Belicheke” coaching dynasty in Tampa Bay.

  3. SOEbuc Says:

He’s not gonna let the Boltz be the only ones to go back to back in Tampa Bay. I think that would desire these guys that much more if the lightning sweep Montreal to keep the Stanley Cup in Tampa.Just a thought.

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

Jameis is only 27yrs young. Bring him back for the next 15 years

  5. Winny Testaverde Says:

Two more years of TB12 sounds about right. Expecting anything beyond might appear to be “greedy” to the football gods. I’m grateful for the magical 2020 season and the real chance/shot at defending in 2021.

  6. Winny Testaverde Says:

Medicated Peter…is it magic mushrooms today? The SS JW ship has sailed/sunk.

  7. Darin Says:

Enjoy it instead of looking forward to the darker times.

  8. gp Says:

Two more things on his football bucket list (not mandatory but preferred).
    1) the perfect season
    2) the hattrick (threepeat)

Not that ANY future QB will be able to even come close to what he has done through his career. If he can add those two the title of GOAT will be anchored in cold hard steel.
Perhaps wishful or even selfish thinking on my part because as Tom Brady goes, so do the Bucs, and visa versa. Those records will be ours as well as his.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

When the Tom Brady story is told, last season will always figure prominently because the fact that he changed teams after 19-20 years and 6 SBs and then won a SB in his 1st year in Tampa is so unique to the history of the NFL.

The enhanced visibility of the Bucs franchise because of this is a marketing coup. I’d love to see an analysis of how much this increased the value of this franchise. For every aging fan who thinks of the Cowboys and Steelers, there is a new fan measuring the NFL by the last ten years. If the Bucs continue this run, they can become the pop culture team of this generation. Lord knows the change in uniforms last year is a big help.

It may sound like a joke; but it all started after the change of uniforms….😄

  11. Hodad Says:

Why not just believe what Tom said himself? That being he wants to play until he’s 45. This year, and next. Darlington is right.

  12. Miller5252 Says:

If he wins it all again this year, he’ll be back to try and 3 peat since he hasn’t done that before. No ones gonna know when he wants to hang it up, and if he’s still playing at a high level there’s a good chance he keeps going, in my opinion. Keep the red carpet laid out for him and getting his input on possible players and he’ll stay around.

Obvious troll is obviously a troll

    That siad, Howard will nibble,
Winston was an embarrassing mistake. Both he and Mariotanever really
blossomed but they were the #1 and #2 picks on everyones board

  14. Capt.Tim Says:

Let Brady play as long as he wants.
Get him what ever he wants.
Keep a great Oline in front of him.
Hope he can win us another Superbowl or two.
Throw him a damn Parade when he’s ready to quit

But most of all, quit nagging him. Every game he plays here is a miracle- considering our history of horrible QBs

    1000% AGREE….Capt.

Brady wants a 3 peat. He won’t say it but he thinks it.

  17. David Says:

Well he also said he has 10 fingers, 7 rings and one finger taken by a wedding ring….
    so he needs 2 more

  18. Cobraboy Says:

SB_LV Update: The guy is home after a couple of tough days. He will be fine, just needs some home cookin’…

  19. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Threepeat and perfect season of course you know he wants that, if he completes that I hope he retires a Buc. The Patriots retired him and paid for it he owes them nothing except the fans. Until he proves he can’t do it anymore. To have that perfect season the whole team had to be perfect from the beginning. Mike Evans has to get 24 tds to break Moss’ record Godwin 12 AB 12 and run game 20 total. They have have the mindset of blowing out every team like Brady had in 2007 and we definitely can’t wait until the 8th game.of the season to finally have self control over stupid penalties. I personally would love a perfect season in the Bucs record book!

  20. Crickett Baker Says:

Gahh..I just watched the movie “Glory Days” where a guy went back to college and played QB on their team. He was 53 years old, and he had great teammates. Well, maybe only in the movies, but I wish people would stop bringing up Tom’s age every time they talk. You may get him thinking about being “old” too damn much..

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I’m thinking….he’s got toes for rings too……

  22. Scooter Says:

Jameis is in a good situation with the Saints. A year under his belt learning the system, a Head coach who is offensive minded, talent on both sides of the ball. If he wins the starting job and then cuts down on his inners and fumbles, the Saints will definitely be in the playoffs.

  23. Cobraboy Says:

@scooter: if my mother had balls, she’d be my father…

    If, if, if…

Winston had five years of being told “protect the ball.” You think Payton will put up with that crap?

  24. Aceofaerospace Says:

Mr Pick 6 should not be brought up again unless it’s game week and he’s on a team we’re playing and he’s starting.

  25. Scooter Says:

I’m glad I can create some Buc fireworks on the 4th. Everyone should get a second chance.

A 10 day contract, Sly? Is this the NBA? One day contract. Proving yet again that you don’t know football. Dude, STFU.
