Playoff Sacks Marks Quickly In Danger

Climbing the charts

Really cool numbers here about Bucs playoff sacks.

The Bucs made the playoffs last year for the first time since Chucky’s glory days Bucs when playoffs were expected. Now they didn’t always do well in the postseason, but a season without a playoff appearance in those days was a big-time disappointment (remember 1998?).

So Joe was really surprised to see both Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul already in the top-five for Bucs playoff sacks. Shoot, Shaq could tie the record with one good playoff game.

(Also surprising is that Steve White is tied with Shaq at No. 3 and not Lee Roy Selmon.)

Joe would have thought, with all of those playoff games during the glory years, that someone other than Simeon Rice or Warren Sapp or even White would have three sacks. Not even Selmon? Joe would have lost that bet.

Remember that for most Bucs sacks in one playoff game, five in the NFC title game at Green Bay, it was Vita Vea’s first game back after busting up his ankle at Chicago on that awful Thursday night game. Up in Green Bay, Vea was tossing around Pro Bowl center Corey Linsley like a ragdoll that afternoon. It was awesome to see.

Another interesting item Joe found in the graphic below from the Bucs’ media relations team: the Bucs had five sacks on Danny White in the 1982 playoffs. That game was a two-score loss to Dallas, 30-17. Still, White threw 45 times.

Joe never would have guessed in a blowout win that Tom Landry would have passed that much. Joe checked the box score and the Bucs actually led in the third quarter. So it was much closer than Joe remembered.

That game was the last playoff game the Bucs would play in for the next 15 years.

Bucs made playoffs in 05โ€™ (lost to Redskins) and 07โ€™ (lost to Giants). Both in Tampa.

Joe was hitting the Bromosas again!

Oh wait, I think heโ€™s saying the 15 year playoff drought was from 1982-1997.

I stand by my assertion about the Bromosas though.

Were sacks already an official statistic in Lee Roy’s days?

Apparently, the best thing for the Bucs is a playoff game at Lambeau!

@german buc no it wasn’t an official stat yet

Wow they sacked White 5 times and still lost??? Here I thought sacks were the only thing that matters in defense because that’s the drum a certain website owner beats. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” hmmm who woulda think it???๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

That crossed Joe’s mind. In the box score of the 30-17 loss to Dallas, sacks were counted.

Pick six by Williams did the Bucs in, not getting five sacks on White. smh

    Don’t be dumb.
