JPP: “I Feel Like Losers Should Lose”

July 8th, 2021

Smelled the stench

It’s easy to forget the Bucs were a struggling football team in need of win about 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 of last season.

They looked like anything but Super Bowl champs trailing 17-0 at halftime in Atlanta with an 8-5 record and needing the game in their playoff chase.

This season turning point was a focus on In The Current, the in-house video feature at Buccaneers.com.

The man of the moment, explained by Tom Brady and Mike Evans, was Jason Pierre-Paul.

“We went in on halftime and JPP was just on fire,” Brady said.

“He was lightin’ everyone up. Talking about all the different things we needed to do on offense and defense, and showed incredible leadership. Those 30 minutes I think changed the whole football season.”

JPP had a clear message.

“I feel like losers, lose, man. Losers should lose and winners should win. And I think guys get caught in situations saving stuff. You know what I’m saying? Saving for the next play. Or, ‘Next week I can probably do this.’ Don’t save it,” JPP explained.

Joe senses that JPP smelled the stench of The Lost Decade oozing from the pores of many of his teammates in that moment. And JPP couldn’t take one more second of it.

Someone extend that guy’s contract before he slips away.

Modern day Hardy Nickerson with the way he leads

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I have been following JPP since his days at USF.
I was HOPING we drafted him, but glad he is a Buc now.

  3. SlyPirate Says:

JPP and Suh started the culture shift. Brady accelerated it. White will sustain it.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Some think it was the reg season Green Bay game that turned around the Bucs……I think it was this one…..coming back down 17 to win…..that’s what got us started toward the Championship.

  5. Mike C Says:

Wow, just absolutely refusing to take it any longer, You the man JPP!

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

Ah shucks……. you mean football is more than just going out there and just having fun guys?

JPP and Suh did change the listing mindset on defense.

    Sorry Ben…… my bad.

  7. DoooshLaRue Says:

    *losing

  8. Bobby M. Says:

He’s right…..winners find ways to win. Sometimes its not pretty but the desired result is there. Its crazy how we can watch a game now and believe we’ll win regardless of the score. When Winston was QB i knew if we went down by 14 OR if Winston had two turnovers, i could move on with my Sunday. Even when we were winning, there was always the feeling that on any given play Winston might give the game away regardless.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

JPP’s fire is great, but it’s not just him. This team is loaded with firebrands who want to win and the culture they have developed should sustain the organization well into the future.

    Spot on!

Hope we get a few more D. White types to help with the cause…Wirfs, etc.

Yup, that’s the real bottom line Joe. I’m sure Bucs won’t re-sign him early (don’t have the $$$ for one thing), but come the end of this season he needs to be in the top-tier of FAs who need to be fed.

Didn’t JPP blow a gasket in the locker room three years ago after a loss because other players were having a great time?

  13. Tye Says:

Look no further than the QBs during that Lost Decade…
Really since Garcia, in my opinion.. The Bucs decisions made them destined to lose!

Not sure about that (could be wrong). Are you thinking of when Kwon Alexander attacked slovenly Swaggy Baker for joking around after he helped the Bucs choke away a win at Carolina?

    …………………….

You sir are T-Totally correct. I think an Offensive player will also step up and sustain it for both sides.

He is a demi-god warrior like Alexander the Great.

He’s invincible and blessed like Hercules!

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

JPP has a ring so he knows what it takes to win. Suh has always been a play when he feels like it guy and has never been on a winning team except Rams in SB loss to Patriots. Now he is on a team that respects veteran players and has adapted, no perfected a winning attitude. He was dominant in the SB, a terror for oline and QB. JPP is just a motivating motha!

    “Man, I’ve got nothing.”
    Signed: Pat Mahomes.

I think some of the players were going to hook up with girls later that evening

Great quotes in here. Ty guys. My fave JPP quote, “Don’t just talk about it. BE it”.

Yes I believe you are talking about the game where McCoy and another player (I forget who) were joking on the sidelines in the last few minutes of a game we lost.

  22. gotbbucs Says:

This team realistically got better by subtracting mental midgets. Flushing McCoy and Winston down the drain pipe was almost as important as adding JPP, Suh, and Brady.

  23. DoooshLaRue Says:

    GotBucs,

    Exactly.
Now we just need to subtract one serial loafer and the team will be damn near perfect.

  24. Buc-em-up84 Says:

I get worried more and more when I hear these so called suits talking about it’s gonna be hard for teams to beat us. If I recall correctly these were the same “suits”who said we won’t make the playoffs smh

  25. Buc-em-up84 Says:

    Wouldn’t*

  26. Duane Says:

There is likely an angry veteran in the locker room of every team looking at a losing season. Dont remember this team making the playoffs when the vets on the defense complained prior to last season. Its about execution. Dialing up the emotion and drama seems counterproductive. It didnt help Jameis eat more W’s.

    Don’t forget Hargreaves.

Joe and Doosh’s comments are spot on, about players having fun on Sundays.
I say your paying professional athletes big bucks,to go out and kill themselves
playing hardball to win. I’m tired of hearing players saying we are
going to go out today and have fun on the field. It’s like saying, let’s toss the ball around with our friends or kids. You will
never win championships with that attitude !
