Tom Brady Haters

July 7th, 2021

No denying greatness.

Joe raises his hand. Joe was one of them.

No, Joe never “hated” Tom Brady like Ryan Jensen did. But Joe did hate the team he played for, the Belicheats. If they were on live TV, Joe found something else to do and/or watch. Yes, that included a few Super Bowls.

And when it came time to argue who was the greatest quarterback, Joe always sided with Joe Montana. Yes, Brady was damn good, but he was no Joe Montana.

Notice Joe is using past tense? More on that in a moment.

What Brady has done the past year should shut up anyone who thinks Brady is not the greatest. That’s what Adam Rank typed for NFL.com as he highlights VIPs of the Bucs’ Super Bowl season.

Quarterback: Tom Brady. I always seem to run into people who want to tell me why Tom is NOT the G.O.A.T. Like anybody could switch franchises in the midst of a global pandemic — with unprecedented restrictions on team activities — and promptly collect a seventh ring for his collection. Yes, he was surrounded by talent. He was also 43 freaking years old. And the Bucs had posted three straight losing seasons before Brady’s arrival. Like, what are we doing here? I like to carry myself with a personal level of politeness, but sometimes it gets tested when people try to debunk TB12’s greatness. I could spend the rest of this file explaining, point by point, why Brady’s the G.O.A.T., but what’s the point? What really is left to be said? How many of the all-time greats in NFL history won Super Bowls with one franchise and then left to do it with another? Joe Montana got the Chiefs to the AFC title game. OK, Peyton Manning sort of did it. He was the starting quarterback of the Super Bowl 50 champion Broncos, but even Trent Dilfer had more big-time throws in his Super Bowl win than Manning did in his final NFL game. And I don’t mean to use this space as an opportunity to bash Manning while putting Brady over, but Brady was out there like a dude half his age, dealing in that blowout win over Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs. You can’t deny this. I mean, some of you will. Because haters gonna hate. But he’s the best.

Why was Joe so stubborn believing Montana was better than Brady? Three things: 1) Montana had to go through a gauntlet of some of the best teams and defenses in NFL history to reach a Super Bowl. Dallas (at the end of the Tom Landry dynasty). Washington. Chicago. New York. 2) Montana was undefeated in Super Bowls. 3) Montana never threw a pick in a Super Bowl. which is just unreal to Joe.

Last year, Brady convinced Joe. Rank said it well. Brady single-handedly turned around a woeful franchise that had no clue how to win and developed that same team into a world champion.

Movies are made of things like that.

Joe still can’t find it in him to call Brady a farm animal. But he is the best. Isn’t that good enough?

Pete never hated TB12 but Pete hates the Patriots, their fans & every sports team in the Northeast & all their fans

  2. Slugglife Says:

    Pete

I reserve that hate for Eagles fans and every NFC south team that isn’t the Bucs.

  3. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Well said Joe. But, in a slightly dissenting POV, it is a team game and I have to give Licht and BA a little credit for their contributions. Licht built the foundation, and BA constructed the walls. But it was definitely Brady who topped off the roof as the “tipping point”. TB’s incredible leadership brought everyone together as a team and led them on the incredible journey to the Bucs’ 2nd Super Bowl.

Will 2021 bring unprecedented success in a 3rd SB? Maybe more?

  4. Steven007 Says:

I can understand ignoring the Patriots during the regular season, but as a football fan I can’t understand ignoring them during the playoffs or certainly the Super bowl. I remember watching them against the falcons. Two teams I disliked although the falcons much more obviously. I’m such a homer that even though I hated the Patriots I wanted them to beat the falcons so that another NFC South team was denied a Super bowl. Obviously we all know how the second half of that game went. I imagined then how exciting it must be to have a quarterback like Brady. Would never have thought in a million years that he’d end up captaining my team. Good times.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

    I was a “hater”!
I don’t think when you say “hate” you really mean the person. I said I “hated” Brady but it was because of seeing him at the top of the game for so long on someone else’s team and just dominating.

When you start talking about the GOAT, I think it becomes preference. There is no challenging SEVEN championships but, not everyone views that as the bar with which to measure.

  6. Bird Says:

    So i will say it

    He is the goat

    —-/

Most people on here didnt like brady for same reason. Not cause he was some tool. Cause he was always winning and in super bowl while our bucs would accomplish one winning season in 5. But how could you not respect the man.

I was a montana guy too. But what brady has done over the last few years and taking bucs from worst to first. There is no debate. Its not even a discussion

But i knew bucs would be so much better in 2020 cause of his greatness. And to go back in the archives and see the cluelessness of people saying bust. Still to this day some posters do not want to give brady his credit. Its laughable. Especially you know who. Clown show.

Cant wait for this season. Got my tickets. Ready for greatest buc team ever to play on sunday , monday and thursday 😂

We are so lucky that he thought outside the box and picked a franchise that was at the bottom of the dumpster and was just getting lit on fire

Lets go for 2. ..heck lets make it 3

  7. Beeej Says:

Brady won me over in that Falcons Super Bowl. You can’t NOT admire that

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Thanks so much Joe, for sparing us the monikers on this article…….it read beautifully.

I wasn’t really a Brady hater….but I must say, I didn’t like him…always winning and not on my team. Now he’s on my team….love him.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

I hated Brady only because he was the reason the Patriots kept winning and dominating their division. But Rank beautifully lays out the reason why arguments against Brady as the GOAT are ridiculous. Now Brady’s a Buc and I love the man. It’s truly been a privilege to get an up-close look at what TB12 is made of, both on and off the field.

  10. PSL Bob Says:

I should have added, that most of that insight into Brady’s character has come through JoeBucsFan website.

  11. Bucs Bro Says:

Bucs were never in the post season so I always respected and rooted for Brady as the greatest.

Montana literally had a HOF roster. Brady had great weapons in New England 2 or 3 years. When Brady shredded the Legion of Boom in the Super Bowl he earned the greatest label for me.

In the Super Bowls he lost his defense couldn’t stop Nick Foles, and they ran into a red hot Giants defense twice. It’s not like he was having a Jameis versus the Panthers in London type performance in those games.

To fight against him being the best is just silly and comes off as someone who hates successful individuals versus recognizing greatness.

  12. Hodad Says:

Yes Montana had to go through a bunch of good teams, but the parity in the league now makes every team dangerous. Two NFL’s, Montana’s era there was no free agency, and no salary cap, so if you had a stacked team you were good for years. Today’s NFL you can’t keep all your stars anymore. That’s why I hate comparing players from different times. The rules are not the same.

  13. Youngbucs Says:

Montana himself has said Brady is the goat. I would rather listen to those who have played the gm. And know what it takes to be successful at a high level!!!!!

  14. Youngbucs Says:

And by the way who doesn’t hate when other teams or players are successful? But hating on your own so called team when they are at the top your just a weirdo in my opinion.

  15. DoooshLaRue Says:

    If you hate Brady………..

    You’re obviously a racist.

  16. gp Says:

    I was a hater.
But not in the literal sense.
More of a jealousy type of thing. The hate was more directed to the pundits who slavered over him and the Patriots.
The man was taken in the SIXTH ROUND for crying out loud. His career path in the NFL was to carry a clipboard for four years and then go get a real job! If Bledsoe had not gone down, that is most likely how it would have played out. And the Patriots would NOT have been a dynasty and Belicheat would be a retired never has been coach without a single ring to show for his career.
Strange how things work out, eh?

  17. Kentucky Buc Says:

Montana was great. Watched most of his games that were televised. Brady’s accomplishment last year gets diminished because the Bucs were loaded. Joes teams were super loaded on offense and defense yet you never hear this used against him. Jerry Rice, Dwight Clark, John Taylor, Roger Craig,Ronnie Lott etc etc etc… HOFers everywhere you looked.

  18. gp Says:

    @Youngbucs
But hating on your own so called team when they are at the top your just a weirdo in my opinion.
    ********************************************************
I prefer to refer to the poster in question as “insanely stubborn”.
With an emphasis on the insanity part.

  19. Alanbucsfan Says:

Brady is the GOAT and Brady was the no 1 factor in last year’s success, but Brady did not single- handedly turn around the franchise.
Alot of QB’s could have won with last year’s Bucs’team – maybe not the SB, but playoffs definitely-
lots of upgrades contributed to the Bucs success- Wirfs, Gronk, Brown, Stinnie, Winfield Jr , Fournette, Succup and the no 1 upgrade was Brady. And Brady was the main factor in many of the upgrades…

  20. SufferingSince76 Says:

It wasn’t Brady’s fault that the rest of the division sucked.

  21. SufferingSince76 Says:

    AFC East

  22. Alanbucsfan Says:

Re Montana- Brady’s resume qualifies him as the GOAT, but if you have 1 game to win it all and you get to choose the QB, I’m taking Montana.

  23. Craig Says:

I could not make myself hate a player who took smaller contracts than his worth to make the team better, even though the team got no better.

I did hate watching our old QB give games away, I wanted him gone. I was shocked in unbelieving when Brady turned up here.

Yes, the team was stacked, but it was the year before and we went 7-9.

I will accept Brady as the G.O.A.T. because he is the factor that turned this team around, and looking back he was the entire offense of the Belicheats. He could have turned around almost any team, maybe not the Bears, and that makes him greater than anyone else.

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

Brady simply needed to escape the stench of the Belichik personality.

It’s not just Brady…Gronk and the rest of this team APPRECIATED BA’s style!

Gronk and Brady just had to suffer through the polar opposite of BA. They were like guys discovered in the desert getting their first drink of water.

I’ve got a couple of three letter words for you. Both are important. Brady has always enjoyed one…but not the other until this year.

WIN This is what drives Brady. FUN This is what Brady got to have on and OFF the field last year in BA’s regime.

People keep talking about Brady changing our culture and I’ve give him props.
But it’s BA who has changed everything…not just the locker room culture but the management culture as well. BA has created an organization with the obvious help of Licht that can endure.

  25. gp Says:

    @stpete
    I like your take.
A lot of different things “came together” to bring us to where we are now.
Here’s hoping we can keep those “things” working together for the long term!

  26. DoooshLaRue Says:

    SPBF,

Agree that BA laid the groundwork for changing the culture and I applaud him for making the decision the to cut deadweight Softie93, sending a big message to the team that mediocrity and lack of fire wouldn’t be tolerated.
Then following up by letting JayMiss go after giving him every opportunity to succeed.

  27. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

It was the Falcons SB that did it for me. I was actively rooting for the Pats and that was a great moment. What I felt for the Pats in those days was more envy. I wanted a coach and QB that wanted to win that badly and established a culture of winning. We seemed to be the polar opposite in every way. To each his own, but I can’t imagine being a fan of the game and not tuning in to marvel at Brady and Belichick.

  28. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Long story short, rather than hate Brady and Belichick for winning, I was disgusted with our coaches and players for being losers.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

    Beeej Says:

“Brady won me over in that Falcons Super Bowl.”

Yup that’s when I looked at my cousin after the game and said Brady’s the greatest QB of all time.

Now we Bucs fans get to live it for a little while…having the GOAT.

He’s truly amazing to be doing what he’s doing at 43…makes us older folks want to root for him even more….I think even if you never liked him and you’re not a Bucs fan you kind of root for him now because of his age.

Oh yeah I was a Brady hater too…but he’s a Buc now… come on man.

  30. Capt Kidd Says:

Always been a Bucs fan, since 1976. But I never hated Brady, probably because he wasn’t in our division. Favre and Brees I hated, just their arrogance and their team’s arrogance. I admired Brady cuz he always did less with more and they were the only thing fun about the playoffs when my team was home. And I greatly admired how he took less personal money to have a better team.

  31. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

A very interesting take (I forget the guys name) showed that Brady has had 3 HOF careers if you evenly divide his career, and the numbers back this up very well:

1st 3rd compares with Joe Montana
2nd 3rd compares with Dan Marino
3rd 3rd compares with Troy Aikman

Crazy! TB is BY FAR the GOAT!

  32. 6throundpick Says:

When the Patriots beat ATL a few years, ago…that was TB12 showing NE what they were losing. Even after that, Belichick still wasn’t buying. I hope TB/TB2 beat the Patriot’s arses big time up in Foxborough.

  33. Cobraboy Says:

I would be more emotionally involved, +/-, had Brady played in the NFC.

  34. Buczilla Says:

If the Bucs aren’t playing, my interest in football goes down quite a bit, so in a football sense, I really didn’t care about Brady or the Patriots one way or the other. As far as Brady being the goat, I just ask myself a simple question. Has anyone else in the history of the NFL played their position as well as Brady has played his? The answer is a resounding, hell no! In the immortal words of the late, great, Stan Lee, nuff said. 😋

  35. Long time Brady fan says Says:

Joe you forgot to mention Brady’s 3 HOF careers including Montana’s. A Nick Wright video.
