The pads come on this morning for the first time at One Buc Palace, and one Buccaneer is extraordinarily happy about it.
This is Season 10 of the Lavonte David experience, and he was talking to Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports yesterday as if he’s a youngster looking to make his mark with coaches by burying a teammate.
That’s how David approaches every training camp — even after a Super Bowl.
“I mean the competitiveness. Even without pads, it’s so competitive out there, man, it’s fun. Everybody’s getting after each other,” David said. “Obviously everybody want to intercept Tom, everybody want to get a little thud in, everybody want to hit RoJo and Leonard, you know what I’m saying. Everybody want to get their hands on Mike and Chris and A.B.”
David went on to talk about the raised fun and fire of practice with pads on, and he said it could get out of hand.
“There might be a couple of fights out there; you never know. But the competitive part of it is going to be crazy, for sure.”
Yesterday, Bucco Bruce Arians said his team had a horsesh*t practice, and David implied that mess could lead to a unique fire in today’s session. Throw in more fans on a weekend and a large NFL Network crew in the house, and Day 6 of camp should be memorable.

So do they allow you to record audio at practice? There’s just something about the crack of the pads that gets me excited. LoL.

Yes and no (for non-NFL Network people). Can record first 30 minutes of practice but Bucs don’t hit then. First half-hour is almost always stretching and individual positional warmups.

What fun times to be in Tampa.
I’ll be at the NO game in Tampa but that’s it.
Dallas is a long way away.
