Was It Really A Slam Dunk For The Bucs To Sign Tom Brady?

June 22nd, 2021

Intrigue.

Man, talk about a tease.

Bucs fans ought to be interested in a Friday special coming to HBO.

On something called “The Shop,” Tom Brady appears in what looks like a barbershop. There, it appears Brady mentioned that at the end of his free agency (the network tease does not include Brady saying what player or team he’s talking about) one NFL team became disinterested in him.

Brady told the group of celebrities around him a tone of shock in his voice, “You’re sticking with that motherf@cker?”

Now what team could this have been? What team had a rotten quarterback they were bringing back in 2020?

The larger question here is Brady apparently said this about a team just before he decided to sign with the Bucs. It sure doesn’t sound to Joe that the Bucs were a slam dunk choice if he was still shopping himself.

Joe loves that Brady picked the Bucs and turned around a losing franchise and infused it with a winning mentality that will stick long after he retires.

Joe is just curious about the team Brady is referring to, and if it had anything to do with Brady personally at all. Joe figures Brady was somewhat interested in playing for this team if the team’s disinterest got under his skin like that.

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

Bucs were choice #3 i believe and that shows u how professional he is to be all-in once he got here. Door#3

  2. Beeej Says:

Gotta be talking about Jimmy G

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Everyone sucks up to Lynch as GM. Why? Let’s see how this debacle of a draft in 2021 works out for him. He should have signed TB.

  4. Jason Says:

    Beeej.

Pretty sure that’s going to be most people’s guess. And it’s probably correct, Occam’s Razor.

  5. Swampbuc Says:

    Rams / Goff also possible

  6. FortMyersDave Says:

I agree with Beeej as well, probably Garoppolo considering the potential people thought SF had and TB’s history with him in New England. Dark horse; the Bears, they had Mitch Trubisky at the time of Tampa signing Brady and had not yet got Foles in trade but if Brady wanted a challenge and the Da Bears were an underachieving 8-8 going in 2019 so maybe TB thought he could win a title in the windy city.

  7. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Also could have been the Rams. Goff was the obvious weak link on what is now, imo, the biggest threat to our Bucs in the NFC.

  8. ClodHopper Says:

I’m thinking Titans. Mostly because that’s the same thing I said when they took themselves out of the running.

  9. Beeej Says:

I thought about the Titans too, and the Fins (wife has business interests in Miami, and that team WAS getting close) but the expletive indicates to me, something deeper going on, which could only be his relationship (or lack thereof) with Jimmy G

  10. ClodHopper Says:

Brady and Tennehill were in the same division for a few years. Brady saw him play not so well twice a year.

That’s how I took his tone anyways. Like “I smoked that guy twice a year during most of his career and you’d rather have him??!!”

  11. D-Rome Says:

This is how it really happened:

Jason Licht: “We like you Tom but we’re going to give Jameis a second year in Bruce’s offense.

Tom Brady: “You’re sticking with that motherf@cker?”

Jason Licht: “On second thought, no.”

    The rest is history.

  12. All lives matter Says:

It came down to SF, SD, and TB. SD was all in on drafting a QB which ended up being Herbert, but SF had struggling, injury prone Garoppolo and Tom had mentioned many times in other interviews that he would like to move to the west coast to promote his products. We were his last option so the MF’r had to be Garoppolo.

  13. Bucnjim Says:

Rome that might not be true but it is funny as hell!

  14. PassingThru Says:

    My guesses:

Brady wasn’t likely referring to either SF or Indy. He wanted SF but he’s friends with Jimmy G. Indy, ditto as he likes Brissett. Both are former teammates and guys he’s hung with off the field. But then my bet is that he will not name the team or player.

My guess is that it’s either Carr, Tannehill, or Trubisky.

  15. Old School Nole Says:

It was definitely Professor Garoppolo in the Conservatory with the Candlestick.

  16. PA Buc Fan Says:

Pretty sure it was the chargers. Remember Tyrod was their starter and Brock was yet to be drafted.

  17. PA Buc Fan Says:

Meant Herbert. Not sure where Brock came from lol.

[Joe never wrote about this subject before. — Joe]

  19. sasquatch Says:

    WGAF.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Saints?

  21. ramrod05 Says:

I was told by an inside source that it was Tannehill! He liked Jimmy G, Brissett and Phillip Rivers.

  22. Show Me the TDs Says:

My apologies, Joe. I read that somewhere else, yesterday

  23. Winny Testaverde Says:

I’m thinking it’s the 49ers and Jimmy G-String. Niners were his boyhood team and Brady has hard feelings the way Belichick showed favoritism towards Jimmy in NE. Now look at the panic mode the Niners went into…mortgaged the future for a QB prospect. Just another feel good story for us Buc fans.

  24. PassingThru Says:

    It was definitely Chicago.

Other than friendship, the other reason why I don’t think it’s Garoppolo is the implication that the guy has been a lost cause as QB (“You’re sticking with that MF?”). Garoppolo was just one season removed from helping take his team to the Super Bowl. Brady’s referring to Mitch Trubisky who hadn’t done squat in the NFL, and yet you never heard a peep out of the Bears about moving away from him.

I also think the Bears were on Brady’s short list. Chicago is a major city with a large media presence. They were a complete team with the exception of their rather sad offensive line. Despite the obvious fit, I distinctly remember Chicago only entertaining mild interest at first, then dropped out by announcing that Mitch Tribusky was their starting QB.

    It was definitely Chicago.

  25. Kaptain Morgan Says:

I agree with PassingThru. Chicago was who Brady was referring to.

  26. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

it was Kansas City Brady said man you’re sticking with that mf,, LMAO

  27. zwak Says:

    Chicago Bears!

    But this was great,

    D-Rome Says:

This is how it really happened:

Jason Licht: “We like you Tom but we’re going to give Jameis a second year in Bruce’s offense.

Tom Brady: “You’re sticking with that motherf@cker?”

Jason Licht: “On second thought, no.”

    The rest is history

  28. Guzzie Says:

What about the Jets and Darnold, twice a year Brady could stick it to Belicheats, that would’ve been fun, not as fun as our Lombardi Trophy but a not so close 2nd

  29. Michael Says:

Without a doubt it was the Raiders! 😀🏈 Go Bucs!

  30. Beeej Says:

This thing is making national news, it’s hilarious

  31. unbelievable Says:

    lol D-Rome!

  32. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    sasquatch & D Rome 😅🤣😂🤣🤣😂
